Strengths:    Light, Efficient, Superb handling, Absolutely rust-proof!
Fatty Ultra fork tracks like a rigid fork...unbelievably predictable handling.

Weaknesses:    Expensive...but you get what you pay for. Wish Merlin would incorporate rear disc mounting holes for future switch to discs.

Bottom Line:
First off, you should know who is writing this. I'm a 39 year old, slightly overweight (210 lbs, yes it will happen to you too), husband and father of two who likes to ride surprisingly hard (see; too fast for your station in life OLD MAN!) I tend to hang onto bikes for longer than usual..see the age of my Paragon. As a result I prefer a durable bike rather than one with all the latest gimmicks and do-dads.
The Fat Ti has a very traditional frame design (diamond frame)... it has worked well for over 100 years, must be something to it! Combine that with slightly oversized titanium tubes, strecthed-out geometry and a no-compromise parts selection and you have a bomb-proof, light weight, supple-yet-efficient ride that will last a lifetime. The welds and fit & finish are bar none the best in the ti market... and I've seen well over a dozen different mfrs (lietspeed, dean, seven etc.) As much as I LOVE this bike, bottom-line, no ONE bike is perfect for everyone. First and foremost: FIT! The bike must be right for your bod. Second: The bike must suit your needs ie; down-hiller, free-rider, xc'r, mega-buck racer... And third, you must be able to afford it.
As for ratings. How can anyone possibly give a high value rating to a BIKE that costs more than... well, a breast implant! It is just a bike after all. Not all that different than a Schwinn Varsity or Huffy Cruiser.
