Strengths: Still a great bike for the money we paid. See review below.Weaknesses: For the price of the bike there really aren't any significant. Replace the saddle and replace components as they wear out and you'll have a great bike to keep for a long, long time.Bottom Line: I wanted to comment on Steve Faceless' review. (The racer from London) First of all, what is a racer doing riding a $350 bike in the first place. If I was a mountin bike racer I wouldn't equip myself with a Wal-Mart Huffy to race, and at this price range that is the competition. Go look at every mountain bike at this same price point and you will find that this is a very good bike for the money. This is my wife's bike, and after a year of fairly consistent riding she still loves the bike. Granted, she is no mountain bike racer from London. Had she been I would have purchased her a composite Stump Jumper or other similar, race competent bike. Do your home work, ride a lot of bikes, and buy the one you feel comfortable on. This is not a bike for male or female riders who like to ride agressively. It is a bike for beginner mountain bikers with a frame that is suitable for advanced riders. Simply replace components as they wear out and the bike will be great for a lifetime.

Strengths: Ooooh, shiny.Weaknesses: Awful cheap components.Bottom Line: A truly awful bike. Positive side, nice frame, specially with the graphics stripped off. Negative: crap pedals (grinding), crap bendy Cyclone cogs, dodgy forks that almost threw me off with excessive rebound (Isync Exceed 266), bottom bracket worn after 3 months. Gearset is Sram/Cyclone/Acera mongrel and feels like it. A very very poor bike.

Strengths: good price. weight is good for entry level bike. good brakes through water sand and whatever else I can throw at it.Weaknesses: BAD DERAILLEURS. Second time using bike, chain was kicked off twice and could get off of middle sprocket up front.Bottom Line: Even with problem, I feel that I got a decent bike for the price. The front derailleur was promptly upgraded and replaced by my shop. Seems to be a problem that Marin is correcting. Good service goes along way to keep me brand loyal. All in all, I'd buy it again.

Strengths: nice stiff frame, good idea to spec the stx rapid fire shifters, weight not too bad. good for commutingWeaknesses: headset was coming loose. right shifter coming loose. no problems with the frame... WAS STOLEN!Bottom Line: This bike was a great deal. It served me very well as a commuter/courier bike until it was STOLEN yesterday. It looks like they made some huge changes since the 99 model (which I had). I really liked the stiff rear triangle. The brakes rather stunk, epescially in the rain while pulling 70 pounds or so in the trailer. Had to use my foot on the front wheel, and still not stopping. Shifting wasn't bad. This bike accelerates very nicely. Off-road the bike bites. Far too stiff. You're wrists will be screaming, although for a rigid bike it is fairly stable. only consider for light trails or city riding. I used to ride it 60kms a day, 5 days a week pulling about 70 pounds. Worked wonderfully. Climbs well. Even with the trailer I would pass tricked out roadies on long climbs. "You should try weight training!" -they hated that. I really wish it wasn't stolen. *sob*

Strengths: Beautiful fit and finish.Weaknesses: Shimano Revo 7 speed shifter will be one of the first components upgraded. Zokes Zone fork will be the next.Bottom Line: This is my wifes first mountain bike. She selected it after riding the Trek and the Specialized numerous times. She loves the look (who couldn't??), and she loves the fit of the bike for her (5'5"/118). She doesn't like the 'grip' style shifter as much as mine (Shimano 'quick shift' style), but everything else on the bike is perfect for a new mountain bike rider. The frame will last her a lifetime, and we will simply upgrade components as they wear out in time. For this price range, this is the best bike out there. (In our humble opinion!)
If you know you are going to ride hard from the get go, then you need to buy plan on laying down at least $600 dollars for a bike, and this is not the bike for you!

Strengths: light alloy frame - Good entry level price - Fair component packageWeaknesses: Shift Sram 5.0 - can be sluggish and needs coaxing.
Chain snapped on day one - leaving me a little peaved with the bike - sorted next day (just one of those things). Pedals needed changing, poor quality.Bottom Line: Very pleased with this purchase - moved futher into Mountain biking and pleased with quality and value for money that this bike offers as an entry level bike. Looking forward to many hours off road with this bike. - Glad I bought it. Recommended to those new to the sport, you can feel the difference from the cheap and nasty pile high and sell cheap models, available by the bucket load. Happy hunting. Andrew
