Strengths:    Stiff

Weaknesses:    This is the only company alive today who produces a seat tube of 30.0mm, but does not have a seat post replacement. I give up!! I've looked everywheres for one to fit. I now have to rig up my seat post. I wouldn't buy another Marin because of this.

Bottom Line:
Because of their piss poor planning with the seat tube of an off-the-radar screen 30.0mm seat post tube, I would not buy another Marin.

Strengths:    Great frame/weight/colour
Reasonable Shimano LX groupset and Mavic rims which are durable but could be lighter
Excellent for its price group

Weaknesses:    Saddle - rides very hard indeed and would recommending changing asap
Fork - but Hey! what do you expect for the money?

Bottom Line:
I ride many trails at weekends, both flat and hilly and the Rocky Ridge rode them all in its stride once the saddle was changed (otherwise rides were as hard as nails). Overall an excellent beginner/intermediate aluminium hardtail with quality components which wear well and provides lots of fun at a reasonable price.

Price Paid:    $750.00

Purchased At:   LBS in NJ, USA

Similar Products Used:   Kona, Specialised, Trek, Cannondale

Bike Setup:   Stock except changed horribly hard but snazzy Marin saddle to a plain black body geometry Ti one which instantly reduced blisters and aches, even if it didn't look as cool!
Also added a loud bell to keep the fierce NJ dogs at bay.

Strengths:
Beautifully engineered, light, stiff frame that loves to cross country.

Weaknesses:
Saddle

Bottom Line:
I got mine (a 98 model) at half the price of the new 99 model. At that kind of money you cant go wrong and this bike just makes you want to go out and ride it.

Strengths:
All of it. Especially the frame and the price.

Weaknesses:
SADDLE!!! uncomfortable and very week. Change this as soon as possible!

Bottom Line:
Great bike with good componets and exelent frame. Ditch the saddle in favour of another. The LX groupset works fine and the avid brakes havn't let me down yet. Overall this bike has a real attitude and keeps begging for more. A winner.

Strengths:
Stiff, light, strong; good components

Weaknesses:
the stock riser handlebar (just personal preference tho)

Bottom Line:
Mine is actually a '98 on closeout...This is a sweet bike. I used a rigid Trek before this bike - no contest. I love the front shock (manitou answer spyder) and the ability to externally adjust it. The frame is stiff and light and climbs hills great. It has a nice wheel set (Mavic X138 with Geax Hook 200 front and rear). The rest of the components are very nice and would do well for anyone from the beginner to the advanced- intermediate rider. This is a great bike, especially for the price I payed - $499! Sorry, I can't help gloating. My only problem is with the store I bought it from - Rear wheel out of true and out of round, pinch flat, and stripped the threads in the frame on a water bottle cage braze-on. Sun and Ski in St. Louis MO for those who are curious. I nonetheless give them 3 chilies because of the incredible price. I highly recommend this bike.
