Strengths:    Great Geometry
quality construction
Easton Tubes Are Smooooth

Weaknesses:    I feel like I should have paid alot more.

Bottom Line:
I work in a shop, so I get to ride alot of different bikes. Im very pleased with the performance of the Kula. It handles far better that anyting else I've owned. Kona's customer service is fantastic.

Strengths:    Light and strong. Crashed it a couple times this last race season and the frame didn't dent or get tweaked any. I also like the kona graphics, plain yet flashy. It's a responsive ride and does well in tight spots on the trail.

Weaknesses:    The yellow paint job wears away easily and Kona skimped on spokes when they built the wheels. They used some unknown brand and I got nothing but broken spokes and heartache. The frame is a tad on the harsh side.

Bottom Line:
The wheels suck and a Downhill riser bar has no business being specked on a cross country hardtail. Also be sure to have the fingernail polish ready to fix the overly easily blemeshed paint job. Other than that it's right on the money and worth every penny.

Bike Setup:   I swapped out the heavy koski riser bar and stem combo and replaced whith a thomson stem and kestrel carbon bar. Also put a marzocchi marathon fork on and a thomason seet post. Replaced wheels with chris king hubs lace with DT spokes to ceramic mavic 517's.

Strengths:    Light, strong, very fast, climbs very easily, handles well and last but not least nice orange-yellow.

Weaknesses:    None.

Bottom Line:
This is one of the best bikes that i had owned so far. So how, the Kona geometry suit me well and when I want power it gives me power. Anyone who wants a good XC race bike this is the one.

Strengths:    Geometry, Easton Ultra tube, look.

Weaknesses:    With $1700, there are a lot of alternatives.

Bottom Line:
I got this bike at March 2001 and started regular ride
since then. It come with some good components but
cheap on chain and cassette. Since then smallest chain ring
and chain broke. Replaced with PC99.
Due to my short riding history I can only compare to my brother's Alite 3000.
I couldn't feel the difference between frames but those
from brake and fork setup. (I weight 170 lb.)
The rear drop with IS disk mount setup seems to be better
than the one on Alite 3000.
Kula give me a feeling of solid ride, single track with confidence, decent stable, and climb well.
Overall it's good bike except the for price.
$240 for Alite 4000 frame is a good deal to start with
building your own. After all they all
made in Taiwan with same tube. But I believe alite 4000 is lighter than Kula and is way cheaper.
I like Kona because of their geometry and the overall riding
quality but not crazy about it.
If I have another $1700 to waste it's going to be a custom
bike build by myself and for sure it will carry better
components than Kula. I just bought the 16" Munimula frame
to build for my wife.
I will post follow up comment later to see if anything worth
mention.

Strengths:    Ligereza, manejabilidad, geometria, cuadro

Buen equipamento

Strengths:    Excellent handling, everything I have come to expect from Kona. Good component mix. Stiff. Strong. light weight, not that that matters to me being 2 bills

Weaknesses:    Would prefer a coil shock, even though it has never let me down

Bottom Line:
This bike rocks! I bought a 2000 kona pahoehoe because of a test ride. I loved that bike but someone else must of loved it more because she ran off with him. My homeowners ins. replaced it with a 2001 Kula(had to pay a bit extra). The best thing about this bike, and the last one, is the handling. It carves corners like it has a mind of its own, climbs exceptionally well, descends with confidence, and loves to go airborne. I have ridden it hard and wrecked it numerous times and it is still going strong(I however broke a few times). I am no light weight at 200lbs, this bike is strong! No flex when I get out of the saddle and hammer. My Kula loves trails like south mt. and pass mt where it is rocky and technical. My only complaint is with the z-2 atom sport. Great performing shock, but I would prefer a coil, even though I have had no problems with it. Great hardtail! Kona Rocks!
