Strengths:    This is a great bike for almost anything you can dish out. The Z5 is great, the handle bars are nice and wide, XT R/D is a great touch to this bike. the deore shifters are great. The frame is perfect for some hardcore XC riding.

Weaknesses:    The Mavic 139's, I bent them in the first month and upgraded to Rhyno lites. the tires are a little slipery but are just fine.

Bottom Line:
This is a great bike I have done so much stuff on it. I would reccomend this to people who just want a strong bike for a great price. If you are worried about how much your bike weighs dont buy this bike it is a little on the heavy end for a XC bike and if you are a freerider or Downhiller. I wouldnt get this bike because it is not made for it. I have done 5 foot drops without a problem but I dont know if I trust it beyound that. This bike is great and I think anyone who is looking to get into biking or is already into biking and wants somthing better you can not go wrong with this bike! I give it 5 chilis!!!!!

Strengths:    Handles like a dream, loves being thrown about on twisty downhill singletrack. Plush forks, good components including XT rear mech.

Weaknesses:    Bit heafty but is stiff and strong.
Saddle, crankset and brake cables. All changed now and is sweet.

Bottom Line:
This bike has improved my skills in 7 months so much. I had an 8 year old XC bike before that was holding me back. I have now entered downhill and XC races on the Caldera, take it up Leigh Woods twice a week and have done many trips to Wales and it loves it. My only real niggle was with the paint, it has chipped off in a few places. Kona has now sent me some touch up paint.

The ride is wicked, that's why it gets 5 flamers. Get one now!

Strengths:    All around great bike. Very upgradable frame. Best value I've seen. The XT rear derailer was a nice touch.

Weaknesses:    Tioga tires were had nobs chipping of within a month. I had to readjust he springs on the Avid brakes everytime I took a wheel off and put it back on. Oh yeah, and the seat.

Bottom Line:
Even though I have a few complaints, I'd recommend this bike to anyone. If you've been toying around with mountain biking and you feel it's time to get serious then this bike is for you. Its definitly the best buy for the buck out there right now.

Strengths:    An all around awesome bike! The Bomber shocks are awesome. Tough frame with an all around awesome setup.

Weaknesses:    Seat is somewhat uncomfortable and the shocks take awhile to break in.

Bottom Line:
This bike kicks ass! I have never ridden a bike as tough on the trails but just as nice on the streets. Awesome ride!!

Strengths:    Very Nice frame, Shocks are very plush and smooth once broken in. Love the beefy feel on the handlebars. Great for all conditions of riding

Weaknesses:    Seat Sucks and Brake pads are to big for rim. Get Better brake Cables. Middle Chainring bent in a month of riding.

Bottom Line:
This bike can be used for everything. I ride it to work, I rode a NORBA downhill course with it, then did a XC race and won. Great smooth feeling, nice and beefy

Strengths:    The Frame is strong and suburb. The Bomber Z5 Air forks are a bit stiff out of the blocks but when they bed in I am sure they will be smooth and sweet. The Avid Single Digit 3's are great on stopping power. Excellant value for money!!!

Weaknesses:    The Tigoa Tyres had not much grip on wet surfaces so if you are going off road I would chang them. My front mech needed changing but that was done quickly and at no expense, no complaints.

Bottom Line:
If you want to have a go anywhere bike that can tackle cross country than this is the bike for you. It has a strong frame, with disc mounts (not disc hubs) a smooth plush fork, suburb brakes and a super package for the money GO AND BUY!!!!

Strengths:    Bang for your buck!!! Awesome, strong frame and componentry for the money.

Weaknesses:    Brakes could be Digit 5's and F/D LX/XT

Bottom Line:
This is my fist XC MTB and this thing meets all expectations and lives up to all the hype and talk about being for big aggressive riders. With the Z4 dialed-in, this bike builds confidence in high speed downhills, the tricky stuff and extreme technical descents. Raced it twice already and it's doing pretty good for me. If you're stating out, want a bike for aggressive riding and want to be different get a 2001 CALDERA!

Strengths:    Excellent handling, good all round setup.

Weaknesses:    Tioga Factory XC tires seem to lose grip on wet surface.

Bottom Line:
You get an excellent bike for your money. Great handling. The Z5 bomber adjusted to weak setting works great when doing some down hill action. Tires seem to lose grip on wet surface, although they ride extremely well in off-road conditions. The brakes hold the bike very well, but need frequent readjusting for perfect grip. (I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to brake adjustment)

Strengths:    Ride, Value, Look

Weaknesses:    Tires, Saddle

Bottom Line:
An old (43) and old fashioned guy finally discovers how much better bikes have become. I left a rigid Jamis Dakota for this new Kona. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The Marzocchi 2.5's (adjusted to almost the stiffest setting) are providing a great ride for this 205 lb.,6'2" rider! It took some relearning from this semi-experienced rider/racer, but this bike screams "RIDE FASTER"!! I am!!

(ps. Are RED bikes really faster, or do they just look like it?)
