$500.00 | | Purchased At: | dougs | | Strengths: | tough bike and good ride. decent components (for the price) very stable at high and low speed | | Weaknesses: | poor shock, weak rims, heavy | | Similar Products Used: | many hardtail bikes (norco, vello sport, marin, rockey mountain, canondale | | Bike Setup: | canged almost everytihng: 2006 RockShox J4 fork, shimano front disk break, shimano hub, sunrace XC rim, race face cranks shimano deore rear derailer, Xtracycle bike extension, shimano 8 speed cartrage, stock hub, mavric rim, new handle bars with extensions | | Bottom Line: | ive been riding this bike almost every day for the past 7 years. it had beter components than similar priced bikes at the time (except for the shock). The first trip i took this bike on was in northern saskatchewan. after 400km of rocks logs and swamps it was the only bike that was still working properly (my only damage was a slightly bent back wheel from a rock on a downhill) i have recently converted it into a cargo bike (extracycle bike extension) and have caried loads up to 300 lb on northern bush trails. i have broken handle bars, wheels(X2), front shock, one crank and a chain but the frame is still in perfect shape. im planing on swaping the frame out of the cargo setup and re-building. excelent bike to build up | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$200.00 | | Purchased At: | Auto xtra cycles | | Strengths: | Great duribility, Resonable components, and its a Kona! | | Weaknesses: | Pedals, saddle. Worried about someone stealing it though. | | Similar Products Used: | Crappy bikes. | | Bike Setup: | Kept it as is besides for adding better pedals, bar ends and a saddle that wont endanger me. | | Bottom Line: | This bike kicks @$$, it has been riding great for the past 4 years. It has been used on and off road. Climbs well, when I am fit, I should know because it is damn hilly here! Would like to upgrade to shox, but I am on a bit of a tight budget now. Great colour choice. I will have this bike for a long time, I hope. Great for all riders with small pockets. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$220.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Masters | | Strengths: | Handles good at high speeds, turns well, climbs like a champ, and it will take a whole lot of abuse and some what light | | Weaknesses: | For the price nothing | | Similar Products Used: | Surly Instigator,HT Stumpjumper,HT Rockhopper | | Bike Setup: | Shimano 7 speed shefters, tektro V brakes,Acera derailuers, rims and hubs.A Kona project 2 fork(ridged),Kona threadless stem, tioga alchemy headset and low rise bars. | | Bottom Line: | I bought this bike for my wife about 3 years ago,so it has sat for about 3 years.I am in the process of building a bike right now so I pulled it out and gave it a spin.I have taken it out about 10 times,I was real impressed with it.I feel well balanced on this bike.It will go up anything and I took it down some rocky stuff. It jumps real well and does not wobble at high speeds. It does not hold speed well with the Acera wheels so I had to work to keep speed. For the price this is a real good bike. I like riding this bike so much I'm going to give it an XT up grade I think. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$250.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Works | | Strengths: | Light, very balanced and nimble. Great for all around fun. | | Weaknesses: | I have the Race light edition and it held up pretty good, but will not survive any heavy jumping. I have bent the rear triangle and sometime you can feel the bike "flex" when you pedal hard. The cranks didn't hold up, I have bent both. | | Bike Setup: | Hahanna Race Light edition, grip shift, shimano XTR, Tektro brakes, Rockshox SID forks | | Bottom Line: | The bike is an amazing playbike, you can do anything you want (in moderation). It handles very well at high speed and is light and easy to keep in control. But the bike just won't hold up on the big bad jumps. I am looking at a Kona Stuff and I think it is the way to go for jumping. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$10.00 | | Purchased At: | Andy's | | Strengths: | Great little starter bike, light, strong, and very refined trail manners (it even stood up to my first downhill race at Longmoor army camp the other day, and got me a very recpectable 19th out of 73) | | Weaknesses: | For the price nothing I can think of other than the fact that it's not an orange patriot, but hang on, what is this, ooooooh no, oooooh bugger it me grips just come off oooooh no, I'm rolling around in the mud coz me grips juct come off, | | Similar Products Used: | SARECEN DIRTTRAX, CARRERA THINGY. | | Bike Setup: | World Force bars & stem, XT Brakes, STX crank with two ring spiders(one each side), Chain Dog & Rollacoaster chain device, and zokes, | | Bottom Line: | A superb little bike of which on it I maneged to beat many full suspention bikes of £2000+ on my first downhill race despite the fact that me grip came off and I had a job getting me helmet on becouse me heads too big ooooh buggerit, which either say's it's the rider that counts or it means the Kona Hahana is bloody good bike, also great for jumping lizzerd stylee,

Ive added shimano lx cranks, chainrings, frt and rear xt deralliers, 2001 Judy 100 mm stroke, shimano clipless pedals, panaracer tires-fire xc pro, etc etc. I replaced all the stock parts pretty much. | | Weaknesses: | Stock rims, rst shock, aliveo deralliers, and toe clips. | | Similar Products Used: | Hace a kona King Kikipu so no real reference to give. | | Bottom Line: | I us my bike for some extreme riding. I do alot of downhill and rip some kick ass trails in alaska so you know it gets a work out. the 4 inch travel judy i installed helps to erase some of the bumps in the rear end. Upgrade the fork, when the deralliers need upgading, replace with lighter parts, and get ride of those stock tires. They weigh alot and are as hard as a rock. I suggest some Panaracers Fire XC pro. The are reasonabbly light, have excellent traction on any surface, and since i live in alaska and ride on a lot of ice they are a lot cheaper than studded tires. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Sunnyvale, CA, US Date Reviewed: August 9, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | For the money you get a quality bike thats fun and easy to ride. The bike is stable and strong for its price. It feels very nimble though for the weight. The shocks work allright, much better than none at all. I use mine for cruising around town a bunch, does fine through town and even better off road. Also, price is very reasonable for a solid beginner/intermediate rider. | | Weaknesses: | Heavy, not the best shocks, and not the best components. You get what you pay for. You feel the weight on the uphills. | | Similar Products Used: | Diamondback Apex, old bike. | | Bike Setup: | Just attached shimano clipless pedals. | | Bottom Line: | I recommend this bike for a beginner rider who wants something simple for cruising around on the weekends or around town. I got this as a gift ($300), and have been very happy with it. However, I'm getting full supsension bike next but I'll still use the Hanana to tool around town with. Looks good too. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

(all) | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Strengths: | Decent components for the price (I have the '98 model), feels solid and stable at low and high speeds. Good beginner's trail bike. Shocks work well (low-maintenance) if re-lubed every few months, depending on how often you ride | | Weaknesses: | heavy...u can really feel it on climbs. Stem may loosen, during serious drop-off descents/crash. Shocks are decent only for dropping off sidewalks or minor bumps (u get what u pay for) | | Bike Setup: | upgraded rear derailleur to STX...otherwise stock | | Bottom Line: | Great beginner's bike for basic to medium level trails. I bought the bike for $600 Cdn including tax with STX upgrade. Feels bullet proof...probably due to its heavy but stable weight. Good bang for the buck! Serious riders should consider a higher price point $900 Cdn and up | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
