Strengths: The weight of the bike isn't bad. The alivios arnt the best but the front derailer isnt the one you should worry about. great shocks.Weaknesses: The Seat post isnt all that Great . needs a shock post.Bottom Line: Good Bike for someone who doesnt want to spend as much as for an expensive bike.

Strengths: Good Power Tools brake levers, strong frame, nice lx shifters, nice 2.5" travel on forksWeaknesses: rear shifter should be numbers as well, alivio and acera were crap in dirt so switched to deore lx. also switched to victor vp108 clipless/platform pedalsBottom Line: this is a great bike for the money. the only turnoffs are that if you do not oil your bb regularly it will start to make a clicking noise when you are pedalling. also if u are a trail kinda person gete off the alivios as they suck.

Strengths: I have had no problems with it. I clean it weekly, and in trade it rides without problem. It is light, strong and powerful. Suprised the heck out of me.Weaknesses: None. I don't have any problems. My power tool brakes couldn't perform better. The only thing is, is that I didn't trust the cranks on it when I bought them. I'll have to watch them.....Bottom Line: Sweet bike. Should have got an award for quality for price! I don't see anything wrong unless you count that my water bottle holder screw in stripped.

Strengths: Very stiff relatively light frame great for the price of the bike. Shimano shifters work well. Rock shock jett believe it or not worked well untill I could afford to replace it with a Marzocchi Z2Weaknesses: Components:
Power tools components are a joke. The brake levers broke the first time they were tested with a fall. Replaced them with lx levers.
Sun Tour crank bent with out taking a hard fall it is so filmsy I just bent it back with needle nose pliers. The shifting on the crank was poor and problematic before this was bent. Sun tour gets an F for the worst crank in history.
What is up with this seat. THey should rename what ever the model name is for this KHS brand seat to "The Prostate Masher". It hurt even to ride it to work in the morning and thats only a fifteen minute drive.
Bottom Line: Love the frame (Good Geometry) and the bike rides hard. The tires and rims have held up well. When you buy this bike realize that you are paying for a good frame and the reason why it is so cheap is the components are made of recycled soda cans. That being said it is an entry level bike that will be fine to tool around on. If you go on some serious trails the frame is a keeper just realize that you will have to upgade some of the components.
Bottom line:You get more frame than you pay for but it costs you in the components department. This is a good trade off in my opinion as it allows you to get a nice entry level bike that has enough frame to be upgradable (Is that a word?) while the components will get you by untill you get into some real trail riding. Value rating of 5 because the bike is cheep at 500 and gives you the ability to upgrade. Overall rating is a 4 because a lot of the components stink but what can you ask for when the complete bike costs slightly more than a race face crank set and less than a good Marzocchi shock.
Great bike for those of us looking to get into mountian biking, dont want to spend a lot of money right off the bat but want something that they can build upon if they take to the sport.

Bike Setup: Replaced the brake levers with Shimano LX as well as the crankset with LX. Replaced the jett shocks with Marzocchi Z.2. Replaced the seat with one that does not cause impotence. Bike stem upgraded to Rock Shock suspension post to make the ride more plush since I use this frequently to commute to work.

Strengths: the alite 1000 is rather light, sweet color, and great product for the money you pay for it, and good on climbs.Weaknesses: the fork sucks, tires pop easy if you don't pump em up good enough.Bottom Line: this bike is great for the amount that you pay for it, don't worry the fork gets more plush after you ride it for a while, this bike is great from begginner to amateaur levels, i enjoyed riding it. if your a weekend warrior on a budget and you like thrashing around in the woods buy this bike.
