Strengths: Strong, durable, looks great, GOOD DEAL since no one dares to buy GT anymore. Good for me. Bad for GT.
Weaknesses: Cheap ass pedals, deore front derailers, deore shifters.
Bottom Line:
I barely finished modifying my new Ruckus. Rode it on my local trails three times. Loved every moment of it. With the DJ1, the bike tracks like missile. Just aim and go.
This baby loves air. It is a medium. Slightly large, but I have no complaints. The 2003 Ruckus cannot compare to this one. The components on this baby are all top notched minus the deore, but I am not complaining about them.
The stock components are not bad. I just wanted better hence the upgrade.
Bike Setup: 2001 GT Ruckus, Marz DJ1, Hayes 8"/6", DEORE/LX/XTR, Salsa Bashring, Syncros DH Bar, Syncros SeatPost, SDG Satellite Saddle, Sun SingleTrack Rims, Sun ZUZU Pedals, Panaracer Fire XC Pro

Strengths: Beefy frame, fun geometry, fork is great for urban assault and FR, XTR rear der, Hayes hydros, and badass look.
Weaknesses: The stock pedals are a joke, just looking at the rims gives me the sudden urge to shave my legs, put on spandex, and jack my seat way up my ass. Presta valves (need I say more)
Bottom Line:
The bike is a very fun ride. Great for urban assault, Freeride, jumping, etc. Good on downhill but obviously doesn't beat a full susp. Not exactly light weight but still isn't too much of a pain to ride up a hill when neccesary. For the most part stock parts are fine. LX is fine for front der (you don't need it much anyway) The wheels are bending on me but surprisingly still somewhat round. I predict future problems with the LX BB and cranks. If you arent a sensi biatch with spandex lint up your ass this would be a great choice for a strong, fun ride.
Similar Products Used: Old GT XC bike of some sort with a Judy XLC and platform pedals. Last straw was when a chainstay bent
Bike Setup: Stock except for: BlackSpire bash gaurd, Redline sealed bearing platform pedals, ODI lock-on grips. Sadly still too poor from the original purchase to get new rims, probably will be Sun double wides or mavic 321s eventually

Strengths: Burly frame, nice geometry, very nice when built up!
Weaknesses: Still trying to determine!
Bottom Line:
This is one tough bike that you can also ride leisurely during the weekends. It's heavy, but I don't mind since I'm not into the weight weenie thing.

Strengths: Well, the bar and stem is not too bad.
Weaknesses: Where do I start... Ok, The rear wheel tacoed in a ride. The front snapped in half. The LX BB snapped. The seatpost broke. The front derr. broke. The Freehub blew up. OH YEA, THE CHAINSTAY AND THE SEATSTAY SNAPPED IN 5 MONTHS.
Bottom Line:
It was a fun bike untill it broke. As long as you dont do too big of drops of very much trials riding you should be fine. After 6 months I am finnaly getting a frame back from pacific, but it a schwinn homegrown. Overall, its decent, but dont break it.

Strengths: beefy frame, good geometry, nice fork, hayes hydraulics, can handle lots of abuse, very smooth, works on everything from drops to XC
Cool stickers
Weaknesses: LX cranks (c'mon GT, if you're gonna do splined, do it right!!), GT pedals, seatpost, front deraileur (why even bother?)
Bottom Line:
The Bottom line is this is a phat bike. I don't believe you can purchase a better bike for the price. It handles everything nicley on trails, and is very smooth on drops for a hardtail. (It's smooth all the time, sometimes I'm not) It gives you the feel of a smaller which is nice because that's all I've ridden. The frame is bomb proof, and most of the time it comes home looking better than me.
The LX cranks devoleped the most annoying creek in them on my very first ride on a trail. The front deraileur is kind of pointless for this bike, but GT must have felt a necesstity for it.
Anyway, the pros weigh out the cons and this bike is well worth your $$$$.
Similar Products Used: Nothing comparable to this. I had an old Rocky Mountain though...it was a tough chro-mo bike, but not even in the Ruckus's category.

Weaknesses: again good starting parts
Bottom Line:
This is an awesome bike it can handle anything I've done 27 feet and the bike can handle it though my body can't. I am 190 pounds and this bike feels light even compared to my dads Uzzi SL.

Strengths: Well the frame is imposible to beat. This thing is just bomb proof. Also its geometry- although I am almost 6'4" so one size larger would help during cross country rides with friends, but that is not what this bike is made for. It provides you that BMX feel, and handles great.
Weaknesses: Well GT did to this bike what they do best. Make a great frame design and through junk onto it.(Hopefully Trek does not do this with gt's designs). Lets see the seat sucks 5 rides and it was striped. The LX splined cranks suck. If you do not bear down on them with a breaker bar before each ride you won't go far. Also the front derailer come on doere= Junk. OH YEAH the pedals hey GT nobody bought this to ride around the neighborhood.
Bottom Line:
This is really a great bike (1.0), after a few changes to the thing you will have one of the strongest rides on the trails. Just test one and you will feel it. Personally I would buy it again and try and upgrade components with the shop. The thing just looks tuff, and the stickers makes everyone laugh, and do hide well in the pictures. If you are in the mood to do some real riding, and are not scared of drops and dirt mounds this is the bike for you. And no matter what others say you can dail the hayse disks in to stop a truck.
Bike Setup: Went with race face cranks. Changed the seat and ended up(thanks to a machinest friend)freeze plugging it to a perment angle degree. Ended up buying Shimono downhills for the platforms. Also I added a circular saw blade looking chain ring protector, and painted the supports orange to match the stickers. People love it.

Bottom Line:
I ended up selling my hodgepodge collectrion of parts on a Ruckus frame and buying a real Ruckus. This thing's sweet. I ride it mostly for UA and a little trials, DH, and XC. I just wish is came with the psylo Tullio instead of the Z3.
Strengths: Great all-around package. Forks are great now that I changed the oil and internal damping adjustment. Strong brakes, burly frame and stem.
Weaknesses: LX cranks? At least they're splined. The stock rims are extremely weak, I bent them immediately, along with the seat. The pedals are inexcusable junk for this price range. How can you sell $5 pedals along with an XTR derailleur??
Bottom Line:
I think this bike is pretty good out of the box and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, GT will not get the chance to make it right next year! The bike weighed 31 lbs. the day I got it, and you can feel it riding XC. The geometry is pretty tight so climbing is tough as it unweights the front end VERY easily. The fork is very good for its intended purpose. Now that I have my fork tuned I can blast any jumps I want and never bottom out. The Primo Super Tenderizers were a must-have-immediately, since the bike came with the cheapest pedals GT makes. This bike is a great hardtail descender and a very good jumper.
Similar Products Used: My other bikes are a Trek 7000, and several BMX bikes. (I am a BMXer)
Bike Setup: 10 wt fork oil, stronger seat, Primo sealed pedals, IRC Kujo tires. Coming soon: bars with less sweep, Sun rims.

Strengths: Strong frame, great handling, triple chainrings, eats drops for breakfast, nice!
Weaknesses: Crappy wheels I've got a 2.0 dented the rim on my first ride. Psylos- 2000 version have a design flaw. Non-splined cranks
Bottom Line:
A few early teething problems, dinged rims, leaky disk and loose crank that now sounds nasty. The bike just feels good shame about some of the parts cos as a whole the bikes damn good.
