Strengths: Wouldn't part with my Tassajara. It's so comfortable to ride. I have logged 3500 miles so far and have little to no issues with it. It's light and I really like the gearing. It very rarely sees any dirt as I mainly use it for transportation, which it is perfect for.
Weaknesses: saddle, went with the WTB stealth and love it, fork is spongy but what do expect for the price.
Bottom Line:
Almost ideal for starting out, I spent 150 on it, loved it, sold it but it was a great bike. 33lbs, etc. Fisher's genesis geometry fit me well. Took that bike through some tuff mud and held up well. It handled well too.
Favorite Trail: the rock quarry, third battlefield, other secret spots :-D

$150.00

Strengths: color, geometry, components--especially the shifters, price, the thing was badass!
Weaknesses: the seat sucked so i replaced it with a springy one.
Bottom Line:
I NEED ANOTHER ONE! if you have one to sell or know someone who does, PLEASE let me know! i need a large frame and love either the silver or the acid green colors. i was one with this bike until it was stolen out of my garage. i can't find another one anywhere and no other bike grabs me like that one did. plus i'm broke, so i'm hoping that i can get a good price on a 2000 model. i hope you can help me out! thanks! my e-mail address is mtwtfm@hotmail.com

Strengths: light, great entry-level bike for most purposes, decent components for price
Weaknesses: very light wheels, magnum fork
Bottom Line:
i bought this bike sometime in '02 i think (too much weed, cant remember) and have been riding it since, I plan to upgrade eventually, but this bike has been awesome for the time ive had it. even handles our crazy steep technical trails well here in sb, although i can't really compare it to much else.
i finally broke the wheels, which would go out of true most every day, and the fork should have been replaced long ago, i think ill put a cheap axel on there. both replacements probably have something to do with the way I rode, though.
Strengths: wow, this is great bike for the money . the shocks and the rear derailleur are excellent for the money. this si just a great bike to ride because it brings out the freedom and recklessness of a weekend warrior. the frame is excellant, the wheels and rims are good, i find the breaks to be so-so but they do the job.......if looking for an excellant bike for great money check this out!!!!!!!
Weaknesses: a lot of poeple say that seat is bad but i never use it does feel uncomfortable after three to four hours of hardcore riding. the front derailleur sucks the big time though........
Bottom Line:
if you break something on this bike you might have a helluva time fixing it.......right know the rear derailleur hanger is killing me.......if you are looking for an excellant bike for the money and you dont care about the fancy crap thats outm there today defintely go for the gary tassa
Bike Setup: new pads........not much because i dont screw with the bike

Strengths: LX rear derailleur, grips, 8 speeds instead of 9
Weaknesses: Acera front derailleur, wheels always have to be trued, Manitou Magnum fork, saddle
Bottom Line:
The Acera front derailleur is absolute junk, the wheels become untrued after a couple hours of aggressive riding, and the fork always feels like it is bottomed out or stuck in one place. However, the LX rear derailleur shifts beautifully, your hands stick like glue to the grips, and I am glad that it has 8 speeds, as that is less sensitive and allows a much sturdier chain than a 9 speed. Don't buy one if you are even going to do little jumps or drops, but if you do jump it, use platform pedals, because they are stronger and you get a better grip on them. I don't like this bike, and keep in mind that you get what you pay for. I almost forgot, but guys, if you want to have kids, buy a different saddle!

Strengths: For 550 bucks it is hard to find a better deal. While some people may be picky about the small stuff, they simply have grown snobish because they are used to riding bikes three times as much. Overall an excellent price spec.
Weaknesses: THE SADDLE!!! A rock would be more comfortable. Go out and buy yourself a selle italia or something. If you don't your butt will be toast after a day of hard riding. Needs an upgrade on the front derallier. the Atlus just doesn't do the job.
Bottom Line:
A Sweet bike for the money. And it doesn't have genisis geometry which I despise.
Strengths: I think that this is an overall good bike. The geometry works for me. And the weight is good too.
Weaknesses: This model year doesn't have disc brake mounts on the bike itself. Also, after a while my rear derailer started to shift funny. Seat is bad too.
Bottom Line:
This bike is very trailworthy for the price. Overall I think it was worth the price
Bike Setup: All stock except for a pair of Continental tires and a Koobi seat.

Strengths: Reliability, Comfort, Ride, Everything is still working perfectly after two years of riding every weekend. No repairs done yet !!!
Weaknesses: Seat (was switched out)
Bottom Line:
Extremely reliable bike that has a great ride. Light enough for great excelleration and tough enough to take the rockiest sections of Arizona. I absolutely love this bike. I am sure to buy another Gary Fisher. For around $500, it is a STEAL....
Bike Setup: Got new seat, clipless pedals (from old bike), New stem (I have long arms)

Strengths: This bike is extremely light and I thought the brakes were excellent. I have heard people have complaints about the shifting, but I have had no problems at all. This is a great bike for a moderate price. But I only paid $225.00 for it because I bought it from my cousin.
Weaknesses: The seat is to hard.... buy a Wilderness Trail Bikes (WTB) seat instead. Also, no disc brake mounts on the frame.
Bottom Line:
This is a good bike for the price. It's very trail worthy and I would take it over any Trek or GT.
Similar Products Used: This is my first mountain bike.
Bike Setup: I took off the toe clips, put a "French" intertube in, and put on Continental, Town and Country tires.

Strengths: Great fit - good reach for women and nice geometry. A solid bike - I've had no major hassles.
Weaknesses: Replace the shocks - the original Manitou's weren't very stiff and had limited travel. Adding clipless pedals and you've got a perfect ride.
Bottom Line:
A great ride and good bike for beginner/intermediate rider. With a few minot replacements it's an excellent deal. I'd recommend it to any of my fellow biking chicks out there.

Strengths: The frame geo is the most comfortable that ive been on. The longer top tube really helps.
Weaknesses: shock, The shock seems a little to soft.
Bottom Line:
Great mid/entery bike Great for michigan cross country. Could use a stiffer spring in the front shock. But for people with shorter legs and longer torsol, Great frame geometery.

Strengths: Strong, light frame... good mid-range componentry and strong brakes. Still getting the feel for this one, but she feels SOLID. NO problems with chain, components, or tires... should take some abuse.
Weaknesses: Replaced the seat immediately, did not come with clipless pedals or toe clips. Don't try to win the cliff-drop contest at Keystone on this rig.
Bottom Line:
Excellent bike for someone not looking for top of the line, but still wanting quality. This bike doesn't leave me desiring for anything more (than maybe disc brakes) on the trail. Plus, at $450 it was a steal.
Is there an easy way to figure out what size BB I need to replace one already on my bike?
