Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:excellent geometry!
Strong and lightish!
Weaknesses:None; although I might like to put a 3" tire on the back...
Similar Products Used:old cannondales; some FS frames; not much
Bike Setup:16" frame; DJ 1 (5"); rear DX32 and Evil Twin 2.4 (Roller RS); front Rhynolite and Weirwolf 2.5; Hussefelt 2-ring crank; Worldforce 2" riser bar; ODI ruffian; and Kore B1 45mm stem. =)
Bottom Line:Wicked bike. I do lift runs at the local ski hill. Ride some street (working on my rear wheel hop for trials-type moves), drops and gaps np. Then I raise the seat and go trail riding with my girlfriend! Again.. SWEET GEOMETRY!

btw, with a DX32 rim I am able to run a 2.6" Specialized Roller Pro RS on the rear just fine (gotta keep it true tho); I got the Sp/ tires on sale 25$cdn, the new rubber is A-OK.

Strengths:This frame has held up extremely well, considering the hell I've put it through. I'm sure only time will tell though. I'm impressed with the strength to weight ratio- I expected to see signs of stress on the frame but I haven't yet. My urban assault trail is freakin gnarly and the ds1 eats it up like nothing. I recently put a marzocchi drop off triple on it. With the steer tube pushed all the way through the steering is not affected much. Deraileur hanger has held up good so far. It came loose once, but some loc-tite did the trick. Jumps, drops, rocks, roots, ruts, stairgaps, skateparks, big bear race trails, you name it. depending on the pilot, this hardcore hardtail can hang with the toughest dualies out there. watch for a silver ds1 bombing down a trail near you!
Weaknesses:could use a couple more gussets
maxxis 2.35 max rear tire width (maxxis runs small)
the round seat stays and the weld that joins the chainstay to seatstay looks scary fragile, but knock on wood, it's holding up to mad abuse.
drop the stickers Azonic!!
Similar Products Used:specialized/jamis
Bike Setup:16" polished / marzocchi drop off triple / king headset / xt cranks, derailleur, cassette / blackspire ds 1 chainguide / sun singletrack rims / maxxis 2.35 (biggest rear tire that fits)
Bottom Line:Good frame
Azonic just needs to produce a similar frame with boxed seat stays and they can consider it sold.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $100.00
Purchased At:second hand
Strengths:That's certainly not the strongest hardtail frame i had in my career. Still it's the best one money can buy as I judge from my experience. It is very light and that's its best feature. As one learns how to handle it the bike can be used in a variety of purposes. Dirt jumping is not my favourite but I tried it and because of its lightness I don't regret it. I prefer high speed doubles with tons of air in between and I found DS 1 perfect for this purpose. You can easily find your way through the hardest jumps. I used it for 'urban assault' or street riding and it was perfect, no problems with dozens of stairgaps or whatsoever. I used my Azonic as my second bike but as I sold the prime one recently it is used more and more often. I ride skinny, north shore style bridges, mosty technical, steep, high and horribly narrow and the bike takes it all with no problems. steering/balancing is perfect!
Weaknesses:the frame has very thin walls and that's what makes it so light. well, lots of people at m place were dissapointed cause thay had problems with cracking steer tubes but mine is perect even though I abuse the frame nearly on every ride! well I don't take it on high speed DH tracks but only the bridges. its perfect for meaning its geometry and stiffness. I build it up with a 24' rear wheel cause it feels like a standard for me and there is nothing better for that frame.
Similar Products Used:lots of different hardtails from Europe, that's the first one I got from US.
Bike Setup:Manitou Black Sport/ 24'Halo Combat rear wheel / Sun CR18 front/ DaBomb short stem / two chainrings on a crank to make riding bridges easier / magura HS 33 brakes changed to Shimano Deore Discs
Bottom Line:the frame is awesome for a rider who knows how to use it well. certainly its worth its price for the weight and geometry. can't be abused by drops to flat or using DC forks. mine has a dent as i fell from a high bridge and dropped in on some gnarly rocks.

Favorite Trail:Shhhh Tilly its a secret
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:some bike shop that shut down now
Strengths:Well, this frame ruled....until it went bang. Stupid lightness for the strength. I totally ragged mine as much as i could and towards the end of its life the head tube did flare a lil. Now after 3 years i finally bust it (big set of steps)
Weaknesses:Woooo.....thought only my stickers were canker. BB was a bitatch to get in first time.
Similar Products Used:Curtis SX

Bike Setup:14" frame, MR Cheiftains, DMR hubs, 321 front/521 cd rear, IRC mythos rear/kujo front, pyramid bars, shorty stem, DMR pedles, xtr rear v-break, fsa extreme headset. And not forgetting forks Psylo SL's
Bottom Line:You have to give it to it....prob one of the bestest frames there is, Super geometry, could do with slightly higher bb, or i need shorter cranks!
But Azonic need to make a better DS1, one thats slightly more beefy at the head end....with the arse of an evo and bobs your daddy....super frame.

Duration Product Used:6 months

Strengths:Super snappy, Sturdy, jumps good, turns great. Very tough bike. I'm a solid 6'2' and this bike handles the abuse of jumps, drops, rocky down hill sections, good for DS, BSX, both fast, and flowy trails. Very good price for a sick frame.
Weaknesses:The decals are lame. I took em' off. The Chain stays would be better boxed. I wish Azonic would have left the drop outs alone for 2003
Similar Products Used:Santa Cruz

Purchased At:a nice bike shop up north
Strengths:solid ride, it's taken more hard knocks than jake lamotta and this puppy's still double hard, i only wish azonic made bones
Weaknesses:stickers look poo! also make sure you do up that rear QR nice and tight 'cos those horizontal dropouts mean you might catch something precious between the tyre and saddle if the wheel comes off.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:azonic bars etc. bombers (z1 130mm), blah blah blah blah
Bottom Line:since i bought this frame i haven't even thought about getting a new bike - i'm a fat b*stard and this bike takes everything i throw it at - if you want a hardtail bike thats light and tough for jumpin' and downhill they dont come much better - i'm off to eat some more pies.....

Strengths:EVERYTHIHG! This is the best hardtail I have ever ridden. This beast takes a beating. Gussests are strong. It looks and feels like it can survive nuclear holocausts. I went riding with a friend and he was riding an Azonic Evolution...his bike is now for sale on mtbr.com and he is buying a DS-1. Drop what you are doing and go buy this bike. It is well worth it.
Weaknesses:ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTLY NONE!
Similar Products Used:GT Team DHi
Bike Setup:Rock shox Sid SL fork,Kore Strictly D handle bar, Kenda tires, Shimano 646 pedals, Azonic Cranks.
Bottom Line:This bike is what all the cool kids are doing. So should you...this bike is the ulimate high. It's a little havy, which just makes downhills killer, but lighter then a DH bike, so uphills are fun too. I ride this bike around town looking for urban shpit to do, and nothing hurts it. Trust me, this is the greatest bike this side of West California. I am definetly giving this badass 5 flaming chilis. Go buy it...NOW!

Bottom Line:Its FASSSST. And very light. I've taken this frame on some downhill runs and to date no fractures or cracks anywhere on the welds, gussets or, frame. Holds up great on urban assaults and STAIRS!

The chainstays are an issue, flexy and sometimes move my derailuer out of line, but nothing that can't be fixed with some attention with the Rear QR.
