Favorite Trail:Olympic Penninsula
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $6000.00
Purchased At:Boulder Bikes directly
Strengths:Fantastic durability, cutting edge of the day.
Bike Setup:XTR shifters and derailers.
Race Face cranks, Ringle and Nuke Proof hubs, stem, post, Mavic rims, Hyperlite bars, 92' RockShock (long travel mod).
Bottom Line:I have had this bike for 10 years! Frame s/n 16
I built it from the frame up. I have ridden it everywhere
from Canada to Mexico. All over Seattle, San Francisco Bay area, Lake Tahoe, Southern California and Baja and New England States.

After my Diamond Back frame was destroyed in 91' and they would not warranty the frame ("not for off-road use"). I decided to get the best damned bike I could buy that had a
real warranty.

Boulder has(had?!?) a lifetime warranty. I have never needed it.
This Defiant Ti was cutting edge of it's day. I went all out in 1992 and got Ti everything components. It weighs in @ 22 lbs. Pretty good even today.

It has survived the WORST of crashes completely unscathed. I haven't done as well with broken ribs, split arms and legs ( a few Emergency Room trips). This bike has walked away from it totally unscratched! I just wash my blood off the frame and it's ready to go. This bike has been absolutely AMAZING in quality and durability.
I have taken it up to 66 mph downhill and it floats across the big stuff. Handling is great. I have the 'small' size frame and I am 5'8" 170#.

The frame is really well designed and the Ti just adds to the sweet feeling it gives the ride.

Can you say that much about a F/S bike that has been around for 10 years?!? WOW! Amazing...

The only possible negatives I could think of is the rear travel is about 3". Short travel by todays' standards.

Notes: When building up the frame, it was obviously an early production in 1992. I had a few issues:

1) The head and crank tubes needed facing (and threading). - my cost, but small

2) Also there were a couple of factory upgrade improvements to the Risse Racing rear shock -
a) Repositioned the valve stem - free from Risse
b) A new inflation device - also free

After 10 years I have never rebuilt the Rock Shock or the
rear shock and the rear just sprung a leak. Probably due
to my abuse. I can't complain!

The frame is unscratchable!
