Date Reviewed: May 26, 2003
Favorite Trail:Mt. Tam
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $800.00
Purchased At:used
Strengths:Sachs Hydro Brakes, percision machining, industrial quality sealed bearings, pedals, disc brakes, triple clamp votec fronts, fox rear air ajustable, lightest frame with real strength.
Weaknesses:Not well known so is overlooked.
Similar Products Used:Tried them all.
Bike Setup:XTR shifting and for the rest read "strengths". All stock.
Bottom Line:If you can afford one of these new at least take it for a test ride. Awesome. If the opportunity should come up as it did for me to get one used take a serious look. It is definitely worth several thousand dollars. It made the worst hills in San Francisco almost flat. It made potholes, ruts, rocks curbs, downhilling on firetrails seem smooth. I didn't intend to do much off-pavement riding but this bike has changed my mind totally. Even at four years old this bike rocks. It easily outperforms new Specialized, Kona, Jamis etc in the $1500-2000 range and will probably still outlast them.

Favorite Trail:TRT
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:p.c.n.a
Strengths:this bike(1998 FS) is a rocket to ride. it has improved my riding 100 percent. not only can I ride for hours without bonking, I can ride up and down sections that I used to have to walk. full suspension rules!!!!!
Weaknesses:I had some problems with the formula disc brakes, but after getting in contact with the US parts rep, I can ride with confidence again.
Similar Products Used:I also own an "S" (hardtail version) Porsche bike, which is also nice, but I love my full suspension.
Bike Setup:it came set up with sachs,(which is now sram) a risse astro 5 rear shock, formula disc brakes, and useless rubber(michelin wildgripper) which has been replaced, along with the handlebar, with an LP composite riser bar.
Bottom Line:I was glad to see other riders out there reviewing this bike. It's actually a Votec bike, mfg'd in Germany, and Porsche puts their badge on it, imports it to the US, then charges an arm and a leg for it. but at least they did their home work, 'cause this bike rocks.

Favorite Trail:Unicoi, Tsali
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $4500.00
Strengths:Ultra stiff frame with the best suspension available.
Formula disc brakes rock!!
Weaknesses:the price!!!!
Similar Products Used:trek, litespeed, cannondale, santa cruz
Bike Setup:Votec front shock with triple trees, risse rear shock, sachs runnin gear, carbon crankset
Bottom Line:Don't settle for less! There is no substitute for quality. I don't think you could possibly break or wear out this bike if you rode 15 hrs a day for the next 50 years. Go ahead, bite the bullit, you won't be sorry!
