Strengths: Lightest bike I've owned, Very fast and smooth. Prefere hard tail but this is a nice compramise. Feels nice on the trails and takes bumps good. No clackin & clangin!Weaknesses: Balance is a little off at high speed turns. Took a month to get used to because it was so much lighter than my two previous aluminum frames.Bottom Line: I like it! I leave most of the guys in the group on climbs without even coming off my seat. Best bike in the group. Even the guy with the litespeed wanted to test ride. Lol! Hoping I don't break it like my last two Treks. Only paid $600 for it but I will be highly upset if I break it. I love to ride hard!!!

Strengths: Appearance, color. Rolf Urraco wheel set. OCLV frame. soft tail.Weaknesses: Icon crank is terrible.
SID XC flexes WAY too much under braking.
Icon bar, stem flexes and makes noises when stressedBottom Line: I love this bike.
With a new bar/stem, flex-free fork, and an XT/XTR crankset, this would be one of the hottest bikes around.

Strengths: Light, strong, stable, looks awesome, climbs like a demon and takes the edge off of downhills. Weighs 23.2 lbs including pedals, cages, computer etc.Weaknesses: Not a bomber, not that there's anything wrong with that.Bottom Line: Like I said above it's light, climbs like a demon, it's stable, looks great etc. Definitely not a freeride bike, but if you like to climb, or just go fast this is the bike. Left a guy on a Dura-Ace equipped Lightspeed in the dust on the road with my commuter Panaracer Pasaelo's, and yes he was trying. I could tell by his panting and wheezing. ;)
It's not the frame for everyone, but for someone who appreciates hardtails, but wants a little bit more it's perfect.

Strengths: Nice design, light.Weaknesses: I couldn't feel the difference between my old Cannondale F900SL (hardtail) and Trek STP 300.Doesn't feel like suspension bike at all to me.Before you buy it test ride the bike, so you know what you are buing.Might work for someone else, unfortunatelly didn't work for me.Bottom Line: If you are thinkink to change from hardtail to full suspension bike with a little rear travel, don't buy STP-feels like a hardtail ,buy Trek fuel with 3" of rear travel,or Cannondale scalpel. After about 3 month I found 3" of rear travel is not enough for me , so I'm thinkink change to Ellsworth Truth (4" or rear travel).

Strengths: the bike is extremely light and climbs hills like a dream.Weaknesses: its not the best on downhill sections. but during races you can make up a lot of ground on the uphills.Bottom Line: this bike is probably one of the best designed x-country bikes ever. its as close to a hard tail as you can get with a lil bit of give in the rear for a more comfortable ride. climbs better than any bike ive ever riden on.

Strengths: Light, sturdy, and comfortable on long ridesWeaknesses: Icon crank set is week (replacing with XT)Bottom Line: A great bike for someone that appreciates the masochism of steep uphill climbs. This bike also performs well on down hill, but it's not a bomber. Feels like riding a hard-tail uphill and on long flats. Takes the edge off on the single track down-hills. I wouldn't recommend taking any four footers with this bike, though.
Switched to XT cranks because the Icon cranks had so much flex that the shifting sometimes felt out of adjustment, even though things were aligned perfectly. I would give a 5 chili value if they had XT cranks stock. Overall, I am extremely happy with this bike.

Strengths: great geometry, carbon frame.Weaknesses: icon parts.Bottom Line: this bike really smokes, it cuts up the single track like nothing ive riden.i raced it for the first time this weeked and jumped up 6 places from my last placeing on my old bike,i keep telling my wife that its because we payed more for it then a comprably eqwiped schwin gt or giant which is the only draw back to the bike. why trek charges so much more for somthing that has house components on it i will never know but after rideing it for a while its all been worth it in the handling great feel the bike gives ya.

Strengths: Light weight Carbon Fiber frame-Plush ride-"full supension"Weaknesses: Icon PartsBottom Line: This is a great bike for the money. Especially since I only paid 1500.00 dollars for it.(new)This is my first "full suspension" Mt bike. And after riding a hard tail here in southern Nevada for the past eight years this bike is PLUSH. Was a little sceptical about it having Rockshox at first. Had some problems with my old Mag10. But so far so good. After I got the shocks dialed in the ride got even better. The owners manuel is a little off on the set-up of the air pressures for the rear shock. Trek could have done a better job at protecting the chain stay from chain suck. changed out the Icon crank for an XT and the shifting is flawless. The rear hub is being seviced as I write. Overall this bike is awesome. But it has to be ridden like a hard tail, to feel the true benifits of its leafspring technology. This bike is more suited for the experienced crosscoutry/freeride cyclist. Beginners won't be able to appreciate this bike, due to the lack of their experience.

Strengths: Relatively light, responsive; a great climber. OCLV looks great, too.Weaknesses: Rolf Hubs and the Icon cranks are kinda cheesy.Bottom Line: Overall a good bike except for the piece-o-crap rear hub. Apparently there was a problem with the heat treating of an internal part that shattered, resulting in considerable grinding noise and thus lateral slop. Long story short, LBS good, Trek Rep bad. The original wheelset was eventually replaced (after three visits/fixes)with Urracco tubeless compatible. The replaced wheelset then suffered the same fate as the original set. I will be bringing this set in for the second time. Five trips for the same freakin' problem and the Rep just wants the LBS to rebuild the hub again! Trek knew there was a possiblity that the second wheelset may have the defective rear hub. Instead of having the LBS replace the guts immediately, before giving me the wheel, they rolled the dice and hoped there wouldn't be a problem. The bike deserves 5 chilis, but one chili for the crappy customer service from the Trek rep.

Strengths: The frame- light and efficient
Wheels are reasonably light and holding up well so far
SID front and rear plush and adjustableWeaknesses: Noticable flex in crank and bottom bracket (going to XTR or Race Face). Stock Avid's don't work nearly as well as Arch Rival's or XTR's (maybe it was set-up others seem to like them). Bontrager pedals - poor design and quality.Bottom Line: It's a great coss-country and single track bike. Center of gravity seems a little high, but I was use to a Homegrown. It doesn't feel as fast as my Homegrown but I seem to be riding and more efficiently against my usual riding partners. Ultimately thats what it's all about going faster with less work.
It gets a 4 for value because even with the current discounts it's still a lot of money for a bike you to switch out pedals (and maybe cranks) on.
Overall I have to give it a 5, it's a great but under-appreciated design and the company will be around should you need to use your warranty.
