from Kaysville, Utah Date Reviewed: May 26, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Comfortable, Light Weight (24 Lbs) for Full Suspension, Super stiff rear triangle, awsome climber, tracks like it's on rails. A Cross Country Rider's Dream bike. | | Weaknesses: | No Stand over clearance. | | Similar Products Used: | Nothing else full suspension, Gary Fisher Big Sur, Mongoose Alta. | | Bike Setup: | XTR Front and Rear Derailleur(rapid rise), Plasma Grip Shifters, Truvativ Stylo Crank, Koobi Seat, Avid 25 brakes and levers, XT hubs with Sun Sub IV Rims. | | Bottom Line: | Before purchasing this bike I went on a 20 mile ride with a friend who owned a Softride Contour (Basically the same as the sully) The First 12 miles was on a rocky mountain Trail and the last 8 miles was on paved roads. I mentioned this because he let me ride it for about 10 miles on the mountain portion of the ride and then we switched back to my original ride (GF Big Sur). Needless to say, the Softride was more comfortable on the rock mountain trail then the Big Sur on the smooth paved road. Since then I have ridden mine several times with no regrets. I at first thought full suspension was for the faint in heart. The great thing about a Softride is that it has the Full Suspension feel without the loss of power. Go to Softride.com, test ride one for at least a couple of miles, Switch between it an any other bike you are interested in. My bet is that you will choose the Softride. This bike is for the die hard cross country rider. If you don't like the Softride stem you can always sub a fork. The aluminum Stem however has been great for me.
