Strengths:
Beefy rear triangle, Heavy duty tubeset, BIG pivot! King of the URT's man! Nice and plush and the adjustable travel is great! Still active even while standing.
Weaknesses:
It's a URT. It is (as I said)still fairly active while standing, but not as active as 4 bar linkage bikes or sinlge pivot swingarm types. Plus it is a bit heavy too. I also notice the front end is really tall compared to similar bikes.

Bottom Line:
The bottom line is I love this bike! I bought it used from a guy who had it as a second bike. I have a few friends who own Pipelines too and love them as well. I looked for a "Do anything" type of bike as that is the type of riding I do. A bit of cross country, a bit of Urban stuff, lots of freeriding kinda stuff.......this is a great bike for all of that! I like the variable travel in the rear too. I dont think there are too many bikes out there that you can go from 4-5-6inches without tools!!(if any) If you are looking for a Kick Ass, do it all and come back smiling kind of bike, this might be the one for you. P.S. I read the reviews here in the MTBR website with regards to the Pipeline and it helped me with my purchessing decision. You can't go wrong with the advise you get from people who actually ride the bike you are interested in possibly buying!

Bottom Line:
You get what you pay for. Sure, you have to spend another grand to get all the crap peices replaced, but you still end up with a bike you can climb a hill on and hit freeway speeds coming down while remaining in complete control. And you can actually climb it up the hills you intend to go down. The only thing I have ridden that came close was a Santa Cruz, but dolllar for dollar I would have to pick the Rocky. Weaknesses:
I broke the snapped the frame by the rear drop out. What's up with the friggin CR18 rims. I folded both of them after a couple of rides. The fork twisted up on me and I had to pay for friggin repairs, because I sent it to Norco and they said it wasn't on friggin warranty. The z1 has givin me nothing but trouble. The diatech discs suck in sloppy conditions, actually they suck in most conditions. This bike has cost me a lot of cash for all of the repairs and new parts.
Sweet bike, but a few crappy parts that makes the quality drop drastically. I'm sorry about the negativity but when you brake so many parts and nothing is covered under warranties, you get a little ticked off after a while. This bike is perfect for the lighter weight rider under 200 pounds and enjoys thrashing through any type of terrain. I'm glad they changed up the brakes for 2000. If only they'd send me some good brakes to make up for the cheapies on the 99's.

This bike can do anything, climb, descend, freeride, slalom, tight singletrack, and even a bit of tirals ( and i didn't even know i could do trials). The two best parts are when you beat xc fools uphill ( remind then that the bike weighs 30 pounds), and then teach them a serious lesson on the downhills. The travel adjustability in the rear is such a good idea. I never used to jump, but now I do. And for those of us with bad backs like me ( back surgery here) the bike has an upright riding position so its really comfy. Whelp, yeah, thats about all I have to say about that. five burning pieces of poopoo for this one.

It's hard to explain really, but I feel as if my bike is indestructable and I am some kind of superhero when I'm riding it. It upsets me that I have to put it away until the snow firms up, but I'm looking to downhilling it this winter at Marble Mountain Ski Resort. There is a half-pipe there as well that I bet will be just awesome on a super cold (firm snow) night. I wonder if anyone has ridden a bike in a snow halfpipe before? I know that this has nothing to do with the bike, but that's how bad I want to ride it! When's the last time you felt that way about your ride? I would give the RM Pipeline 10 stars out of 5.

The Rocky Mountain Pipeline awesome! After riding many full-suspension bikes for around $2000 (Specialized FSR, GT I-drive, GT LTS, Cannondale, Trek VRX, Santa Cruz Heckler, Gary Fisher Level Betty....), this was by far the best. Although you may be worried about this working like most URTs, it doesn't, there's little bob and it doesn't lockup when you get out of the saddle. The 5 Marzzocchi Z1 Bomber is extremely plush and is a perfect match to the 4, 5, or 6 of adjustible rear travel. Going uphill isn't to bad and going downhill is a dream. The Michelin Hot S tires hook-up well and the 9-speed ESP 9.0 shifting is flawless. My only gripes are the squeaky LX cranks and the choady Selle Italia seat (it's some weird OEM version, not the Flite). So, once you get your Pipeline (if you can find one) swap out the Diatech disks for some Hayes Disks or Magura rim brakes, get a more comfy saddle, and rip-up your favorite trail! Definity 5 flaming dead horses!

I've got to say , Rocky hit the nail on the head with this one . I run a DC118 on the front , and either a stock fox rear or a Cane AD-10 for more travel , and ride the thing all day long . No flex , tons of travel if you want it ( almost none if you choose ) definately the grand-daddy of URT's . Either a weekend DH bike or a trail bike , this is one bike you can ride for everything . I wouldn't suggest racing it in XC though...I wonder why? Buy a smaller frame than normal . Save the Large for 6'2 and taller . I'm 5'10 and ended up buying a small and love it , although I could ride a Medium , it would be taller .I'd give it 10 chili's if I could...
