Date Reviewed: August 13, 2006
Favorite Trail:Dilema on Vedder Mountain
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Bomb proof if taken care of you can do any thing with this frame and it will reward you with a great ride and you can’t beat the price for a good down hill bike
Weaknesses:Have to look after the bushings and other moving parts allot so you can still ride the bike safely
Similar Products Used:norco A line
Bike Setup:Pushed fox vanilla R, 1999 rock shox boxer (old but perfect), race face turbine cranks(original ionized blue), avid bb7 disks, complete shimano lx shifters and derailers
Bottom Line:I got this bike from one of my friends that use to free ride with it, when I asked him how much? he told me "just ride it like it was meant and that’s payment enough" what it all comes down to is this bike is the ultimate old school bike, I have seen allot of kids put this bike down on other sites, and I can guaranty that none of them have actually rode this bike before so don’t diss it! Keep riding, old school rocks!

Bottom Line:a kickass freeride frame that you can pedal uphill with and do jumps and drops with as well.

Submitted by Mac Stephens a Downhiller from North Vancouver, BC
Date Reviewed: July 27, 2001
Favorite Trail:Boogieman & Seymour Mtn generally
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $3500.00
Purchased At:various
Strengths:frame (strength & geometry), components (minus those listed below), handling
Weaknesses:formula discs (suck), Z5 air (sucks), Kenda Kinetics (wimpy sidewalls), stock stem (too long...it belongs on a weenie XC bike)
Similar Products Used:Stinky Five, Stinky Dee Lux
Bike Setup:'01 Jr. T, Grimeca System 1, Tioga DH tires w/ fat 66 sidwalls, Sun Rhyno Lite, Axiom shorty stem
Bottom Line:Ditch the formula brakes, Z.5 (who'd put an air fork on a freeride bike?!), get some decent tires with thick sidewalls and a shorty stem and this is a sweet freeride bike. I still can hardly believe the abuse this rig stands up to...any XC bike would be busted in 2 by now. I love this ride...I plan on keeping it for years. No wonder Norco keeps selling out of its VPS line year after year.

Favorite Trail:Bogeyman
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Frame, cockpit
Weaknesses:brakes, brakes, brakes, and weight (but that souldn't be too much of a concern)
Similar Products Used:you name it
Bike Setup:Z1 drop-offs, Dual XT discs, Ring god, XT groupo, 2.7 tires, yada yada
Bottom Line:This is a GREAT bike for freeride starters. It's the same frame as the VPS3 and at 210lbs, I have yet to cause it any stress.

The grimeca System 1 brakes are totally unreliable and I'd rather use cantilever brakes. Other than that, the rest of the bike is good stock, and it'e easy to upgrade it to great with a little cash.
