Strengths: i love the adjustable travel. its sweet. the rockshox is easy to tune. i added disc brakes and they are great on this frame. i cant figure out how to get the max travel out of it though. its very stiff as well when ridin xc. its only heavy if your a wimp ( no offense but i cant feel a huge difference between my bike and the giant warp my friend has )Weaknesses: i went off a drop and my derailur was bent majorly alond with the hanger that kid of made ma angry although i sat out for abotu 3 weeks. i snapped 3 spokes because of thatBottom Line: this bike is very good for begginers and intermiadiates. i liek it for freeriding downhilling and even cross country

Strengths: Bike flies well, lands soft.Weaknesses: The adjustable rear suspension is great, but apparently it's a company secret as to the best way to set it up. I know, trial and error, but I still wanted the travel specs and geometry ratios on paper. I called the factory and got them to send me the paperwork on it. Every one of the nine combinations has different travel and different rates of compression, it pays to learn them. I weigh 230 lbs. and some of the combinations just won't work because l'm so big. No not fat smart ass.
Does anyone really need 9 gears on the cassette? 8 was enough I thought. The problem is, sometimes the shifter takes two gears instead of just one and the shifts don't seem to be as crisp as the older 8 speeds. Maybe too much stuff crammed into a small space? Not just a Marin thing obviously, but my opinion.Bottom Line: I ride mainly downhill, the ski areas around here are MTB friendly and run shuttles all summer. Not having 4G to lay down for a true downhill machine and wanting something that can be trailridden also, I went for the Rock Springs. It's the best money l've ever spent on a bike. I like the 6 inch rear suspension setting, even for trailriding it doesn't pogo. Someday l'll probably go to a 6 inch fork, but the Judy springer is great for now.
It's been said before and has also been my experience, Marin's customer service is weak. They seemed really surprised that anyone would want to know the specifics on the rear suspension. The owners manual looks like a reprint from four years ago. I also found it mildly annoying that a bike this price equipped with an air shock didn't come with the pump. Another $45.
I'd buy it again. No problem. Save your money and get one of these things. The motorcycle style rear end works like nothing else l've tried. Unfortunately my wife loves this thing, looks like next year another one may be added to the family.
Favorite Trail: Blue Knob Ski Area
Duration Product Used: Less than 1 month

Similar Products Used: GT I drive, Cannondale FS, Diamondback FS
Bike Setup: Stock, except for a soft seat. Marin calls them comfort saddles but I still prefer more cushion. I also added bar ends and changed to downhill pedals. Bike is setup up with mostly Deore and LX stuff.
