Strengths:    Bought in 2001 and after 9 years still going strong. Light and durable for all terrains.

Weaknesses:    Once the frame is scratched you cant get new stickers from Marin for a respray.

Bottom Line:
Awesome after almost 10 years, and bright orange now.

Strengths:    Very light and incredibly stiff frame.
Excellent "monopivot" design, simple and efficient.
Good stock componets, specially the shock absorbers and wheels.

Weaknesses:    Bottle place is useless.
Rear brakes cable routing could be better.
Ovation seat post clamp - creeps.
Rear deraileur replaceble hanger - very gentle

Bottom Line:
This must be one of the best cross country full suspension
riding machines. I ride with it better than with my old hardtail (MARIN Palisades Trrail) both uphill and downhill.
There is no way back to a hard tail for me.
I recommend buying it, but I must put down a few remarks:
The stock Maxxis Minotaur 380 grams tires are realy exotic light tires for racing only! I recomment to replace them in the store or buy another set for training.
I replaced the light short flat bar handlebar to a 1.5" riser handlebar and I find it much better - it puts you in a better position when going down hill, specially for this bike geometry.
The seat post started creeping after a few months and the guy in the shop recommended greasing it from time to time - it works.
The XT drivetrain works great, but I find it to be less reliable than the heavier LX/Deore staff. I already had to replace: A HG-72 chain XT crank midle chainring.

Strengths:    very strong, comfortable for long rides, don't lose much power going uphills

Weaknesses:    left foot hits rear break cable, bad balance on steep uphills

Bottom Line:
I was looking for a machine I could use hard and not brake my bones on the trak, not too expancivea bike that wouold serve me as much as possible with me having to serve it as little as possible.

strong, comfortable, fast..... looks good

Strengths:    Incredible stiffness, action & handling. sells with DT-Swiss Disc ready hubs

Weaknesses:    Comes with flat-bars and wimpy Maxxis tires. Marin's paint job still does not handle day to day riding.

Bottom Line:
I have'nt been this stoked about riding a bike since I was a kid in the early 80's riding the trails me, my brother & buddies started building behind my parent's home on Mt Seymour. I grin as soon as I mount up. The bike has taken my racing into a whole different space. I scream this year.
The bike is super stiff and handles everything I've thrown at it. Gotta go ride again, bye. Don't think the Mt Vision Pro is worth the extra loot just for carbon-fiber bars and seatpost.
