Date Reviewed: June 19, 2001
Favorite Trail:Desert Classic
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $440.00
Purchased At:Bikeswholesale.com
Strengths:Soft tail ride, good spec for the price
Weaknesses:Pedals
Similar Products Used:Specialized FSR Sport
Bike Setup:Stock, but I added Shimano clipless pedals
Bottom Line:My previous ride was a hard tail and I'm really pleased with the comfort and climbing ability of the pivotless soft tail. I dont have time for a lot of tuning and maintenance. The soft tail works as advertised, taking the sting out of embedded rocks and drop-offs. The pedals came apart on an admittedly brutal rock-hopping ride, but KHS has added a better, clipless pedal set for 2001. The frame, drive components, brakes, suspension and weight are on or a little above par for this price range. We ride very hard and the CompST is up to the job. It's a bargain.

Date Reviewed: May 6, 2001
Favorite Trail:Mount Carmel, Israel
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Moto-Ofan, Israel
Strengths:Soft tail, weight
Weaknesses:Derailleurs could use an upgrade
Similar Products Used:KHS PRO (hardtail)
Bike Setup:Look clipless pedals
Bottom Line:The price is high because everything is expensive in Israel.
The bike are a great buy - The Chromolly frame is very light for the money, the rear SoftTale does wonders for the comfort on long trips, as well as allows to ride faster and smoother on declines and fast trails in races. The Rock Shox front shock is good. wonderfull value for the money. I've added Look clipless pedals, so the only required upgrade are the Derailleurs, which I'll probably change to XT rear / LX front.

Date Reviewed: March 8, 2001
Favorite Trail:St Helena, Blue Mtns
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:Steel gives a great ride, and with the softtail taking the edge off you can hammer in comfort, for longer!
Weaknesses:Can be squirrely in the rear end, only noticeable when hitting diagonals.
Bottom Line:Fantastic deal for $1200 Aus, It feels fast and wants to be ridden hard. Came with machined sidewall Sun rims and DB spokes, a great wheelset giving snappy acceleration and great braking.
