Strengths: the i driveWeaknesses: havent found one suspension needs upgrade i gueseBottom Line: great bike since upgrade on suspension only only complaint after ten years is a recent one since running wide tyres they just fit in rear fork with a 32th clearance either side between tyre edge and fork which is fine until you hit gravel then when gravel gets stuck in nobs and hits fork frame

Strengths: Great frame, I-Drive works perfectly, easily upgradable, pedals wellWeaknesses: No rear disc mount, weight, for Uk conditions, the i-drive needs some kind of coverBottom Line: Great AM bike, if rather heavy for the climbs! bought the bike brand new in early 2000 and its done me very well. no probs with it at all, just a pity there is no rear disc mount and it is a rather heavy bike by today's standards. I've got it in red and it looks amazing! The bike with all its new set up currently weighs 33.0 lbs

Strengths: A great ride with almost no mechanical problems after 9 years of use.Weaknesses: I upgraded the front and rear Deraileur for a more dependable ride. The original saddle was very uncomfortable, so I replaced it with a "male" saddle to also make for a more comfortable ride.Bottom Line: It has been a great bike used several times in the Iceman and Ore to Shore races here in Michigan

Strengths: This Bike held up very well for the last 6 years and I have had a few weaknesses.Weaknesses: in order they arrived - Chain, Seat, Rear (Whole)Wheelset, Rear Triangle(topleft)(fixed), Idrive became loose and sloppy. (fixed). and then once again Rear traingle(topright).which I got re-welded and re-supported.Bottom Line: The Bottom Line on this Bike is great although I don't recomend Buying another GT at any cost unless to fix the orginal these 99' models are great at any cost fix it I recomend it I have fixed my rear triangle twice due to it snapping at the top where the shock mounts, I have a tig welder next door so it was nice to have. I have tried to get service out of this company for the last 5 years and they wouldnt help me at all I bought this bike brand new and 1 year later things happened with the bike, I e-mailed them and they said there was nothing to be done. I have a great bike delear who eventually fixed it, almost 1 year later. and I had the frame snap twice in two years. My Idrive was simple to figure out once you take the bolts out and unscrew the thing clean all the grease off and put back in the same way you took it out, those of you who need new bearings check out automotive shops. tighten all the way and lock in with three remaining bolts. it's very simple if you work on your own bikes. GT NOW SUCKS THERE MODELS ARE ALL LIKE OURS. BUT, The 2006 Models are awesome looking if you get the GT Idrive Ruckus 7 1.0 2.0 3.0 models just like ours way better. other than that FIX YOUR OWN BIKE UP I HAVE BROKE IT AND FIXED IT ia took it apart completly and put it all back together myself dozens of times and this bike rocked while it lasts I think I will get another 12 years out of it. UNTIL THE FRAME SNAPS

Strengths: 1) Cool solar citrus colour - matches my eyes!
2) People compliment you on a truely excellant bike, time and time again! ok - its being 6 years - you can stop now!
3) I-drive does exactly what it says on the box - it works!
4) I believe its the same frame as the higher models (but only on the 1999 models (from memory)) with cheaper components which are easily upgradable.
5) lightweight - and if you dont think it is - your a wuss! dont argue - your a wuss and you know it!Weaknesses: 1) tricky to service but not impossible, needs to be kept clean! (no pressure washers!)
2) It needs something to stop dirt gettin in the I-drive mechanism!
3) Everything needs upgrading (except the frame) or just buy the xcr1000 - yea... like we all have money to burn!
4) After 6 years (on average 300 mile per year) of hard riding XC with a few DH and jumps about 4-5 footers and a few hard landings and few tricks - only now the bearings in the pivot start to go and "GT" (bearing in mind this isnt GT anymore just a brandname!) wont sell me the tools to service the pivot point! USELESS!
*** WARNING: The WTB saddle gave me terrible down below pains! ***Bottom Line: FIRSTLY - I THINK ALOT OF YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT THE LATER BIKES - THIS IS THE 1999 MODEL!!!!!
I've had this bike from the first week it was released - it was my first full suspension bike - and i tried all of the bikes in the shop! not only did this one look amazing - it rode amazing and thats what sold it to me (plus the saving of 300 smackers - gotta know how to haggle!)
*** WTB saddle gave me terrible pains - still suffering! ***
THE ONLY REASON THIS ISNT GETTING 5 STARS IS BECAUSE OF THE GOD AWFUL SADDLE SUPPLIED!

Strengths: this bike climbs like a cat and the i drive counteracts the extra weight quite well. plut the i drive just looks cool.
i have trashed this bike and it doesnt realy have many signs of wear.Weaknesses: a bit heavy but no big deal. i broke the chain in about a week and a half so i suggest you go ahead and buy a new chain when you purchace the bike. other than that its all good.Bottom Line: it was a lucky find for the price but i think that this bike is well worth the retail price if you cant get hooked up like i did (thanks rich). if your looking to get into the sport i realy suggest this and other i drive bikes. as long as you dont mind getting a bit greasy doing sone mandatory up-keep its all good. in all its an awesome bike if you dont have a ton of cash to throw down on an iron horse (aluminum.

Strengths: I found everything on this bike to be very stable and reasuring, I've had this bike for the last 5 years and I only had to replace the chain and one link boltWeaknesses: obviously the chain which I switched to a giant XTR chain and since then I've had no problemsBottom Line: the bottom line on this bike is for the price you pay you get an exceptional bike I've gone off road gravel roads and street the bike maxes out at about 40MPH. across a flat surface with 24 gears this bike will do alomost anything it's a bit heavy at 20lbs but it's still light enough to freeride with it I taken jumps from 1 foot to 7 feet and the bike reacted reasonably distinctive. the best thing I like about this bike is the I-drive system and the way it sounds when you jump on the back shock. I bought this bike from my friend who wheighs in at about 280lbs and he had the bike for a year and it lasted through what he took it through even though he was just a weekend worrior who just rode the street but with the wear and tear I've had to replace a few bearings but it's an exceptional bike this bike is only 900 dollars american but here in canada brand new it was way to much but well worth every penny
