Bottom Line:
Reasonably priced full-suspension bike got me off the roads and into the single track. Will upgrade front shocks, pedals and seat a second time this winter. Very happy with my choice. If you broke the frame on this bike you were hucking on a bike that was not built for it. I crash at least six times a week and it never ceases to amaze me how well the bike has held up.

Strengths:
In it's price range ($500), nothing can touch it..in fact, nothing exists! Of course, I'm discounting sub-standard bikes that you can purchase at Kmart and Toys R Us. Look at the components on this thing...Deore for one. I was surprised that this bike weighed only 1.9 lbs. more than my previous bike (Giant Rincon SE, a hardtail), which I loved and reluctantly traded in for this one.
Weaknesses:
I guess the front fork could use a little bit more travel and stiffness to match the almost-bottomless rear suspension. Tires excel in hardpack/gravel/mud but are loud and rought for street, but what do you expect?
Similar Products Used:

The best value in an entry-level full-suspension bike. Will go down stairs, tight steep rocky singletrack, just about anything. Ascends beautifully, thanks to FS and Tyrannoraptors. Kudos to Giant!

I ended up liking it so much that I often do freeride and a daily ride is a must nowdays... The bike just let you do way more than I expected - so I just follow the chalanges. It is a great entry level bike that I will not outgrow too fast. The bike is very stable and bailed me out few times from a sure visit to the local clinic. Off course I want better components but as long as they don't come free I'll keep these until they break and then we'll see. The last sentence is what make me give it 5 flaming turds...

Bike Setup:
Not a thing on this bike is stock. Warranty replaced frame with DS-1 frame when I crushed the down tube. 2000 Marzocchi Z-2 Atom-80; Full Grimeca System 8 Discs; XT shifters, cassette, and rear derailleur; axiom seat post, stem and handlebar; Magura Louise disc hubs laced to Sun-Rims DS2-XC; XT BB; Race Face Prodigy cranks; Michelin WildGripper tires. (These are the reasons I paid more than $650 USD)
Bottom Line:
I demolished this frame early on in 2000. Warranty replaced the frame with the DS-1 and I raced that XC all year. With a Z-3 up front the bike was all right, but is seemed stiff and rubbery (I thought it was the frame). Now that I put the new Z-2 on it feels like a new bike. Of course upgrading every part on the bike to XT and hydraulic disc could have helped. Since then the bike responds quickly when climbing, and descends like mad. The only bone I have to pick is about the routing of the cable for the front derailleur. As it comes in from the top on the 2000 model, the cable housing tends to squeak whenever dirt gets in there and the rear suspendion kicks in. I saw that they fixed this problem for the 2001 bikes so no worry there. Word from the wise: This bike feels good now, but save yourself time and money and buy a full suspension already tweaked out with such components (ie. KHS FXT Pro) and save some cash.
For the weekend warrior or a thrasher starting out this bike would be more than ideal.

What a difference. I can drop from higher and take longer and faster stairs. For the dropping part, there is now a 2001 RaceFace Turbine LP cranks under my feets, with RF rings. With a Shimano XT BB. I also have now bigger, fatter pedals.
Bottom Line:
There is a lot of snow up here and thought I could store my bike for the winter, because of calcium you know... Yeah right... I've been riding most part of the winter. This is an excellent Dual Suspension for anyone starting out. It comes with good Shimano componentry for the price (acera & deore) and a decent Rock Shox fork. The Rear shock is the only one at this price range that I have ever seen with a damping rate adjustment. The bike has performed well for me and I have not had any problem with the bike or any of the components. However, I am not into extreme mountain biking or down hilling, so the bike might not hold up as well under those conditions. Also the weight is a bit high at around 30+ lbs. I think the extra weight for the Dual Suspension is worth it. If you have the extra cash get one of the Giant XTC DS models, then you can have every thing, a lightweight dual suspension that doesn't bob and the energy transfer of a hard tail. Over all I feel this is a Great Bike and I would not hesitate to buy it again. Anyone who is looking to get into Mountain Biking and needs a trail worthy starter bike without a $1000+ price tag should take a look at this Bike!! It only gets 4 flamin' chilies due to the weight.

This bike flat out kicks for the money. Put 190 miles on it in 2-1/2 months and haven't had to adjust anything. The place I bought this thing at gave me a year of free tune-ups. I have only one regret, I didn't know about the Warp DS-1, having disc brakes and a judy XC with a few other better things for only $150 more I surely would have gone that way. I give the DS-2 5 freakin' chiles ...I love you man!

Remember me??? My frame was cracked not only where i told you before but the main frame was cracked too! In exactly 17 days (which i hear is pretty fast), i got back my bike. Fully repaired and red in colour (i loved the white paint job). Rode the bike hard on two occassions at mont Tremblant, one of the biggest mountain in Quebec province. Everithing went superb. The bike loved it. For the first time, the bike wasn't complaining with it's usual noises. Back to the city, some little hollies, CRACK!!! The main tube was crushed by the tube which support the seatpost. I'm told that because no welding failed,(it simply cruched) I maybe won't have a new frame for free. If i don't, i'll call my lawyer. Thank you Giant!

I ride 2-3 times a week on moderate or somewhat challenging trails. I'm an average rider (as are most riders despite what they think they are). I suppose some would say the front shock sucks and the components are a little weak but for $600.00 the whole setup can't be beat. My wife has a Gary Fisher Joshua F-4 which is at least $300.00 more than this bike. I've taken hers on the trail and the Warp DS-2 beats it in every way (except hers has an adjustable rear shock). It has better balance and feel and climbs much better. If you are an average rider (be honest now) this bike is everything you need and more. Why spend three or four hundred dollars more than you need to?

Well, not my bike but my friend's. I personally think this is a very good bike for the price and parts. You should buy this bike if you're looking for your first mountain bike. The shifters are bad if your riding in mud, if the mud gets dried, the gears sre stuffed. The front suspension works good for downhill on rocky or grassy mountains. The brakes work very good but the grips are BAD like motorbike trottle not kinda sticky and gripy enough. This bike would work better with disc brakes, Bombers front suspension, FOX rear suspension.

The vertical tube of the black rear part (the rear suspension frame) cracked just over the weld(?) (excuse my bad english) Welding. You will notice it's the thinner tube of the bike. My bike dealer spoke with the giant guys who will ship a new rear end for my bike, free of charge of course. Will be ready in a week. Guarenteed for life but cracked after approx. 3 months. Can't beat it for the money. I ride every weekend and the couple of weeks I've had this bike, I was on vacation for a week and I went out six times in that week. Guys like me who can barely afford this bike right now will really appriciate it. Some one who needs to have the very latest toy and has the money may be disappointed. But it can be upgraded with a little extra cash. This thing is sooo smooth and much lighter than the tank I've been riding. (Damn near half the weight)and I'm so comfortable on it, it's scarry. Bottom line is I love it and any other rider like me will be too, because afterall, the best reason to go out riding is to enjoy yourself, and I'm having the most fun on a bike I ever have.

Strengths:
Great looking bike with comfortable geometry. Smooth, adjustable rear suspension. Better than average components. You get a lot of bike for the price.
Weaknesses:
The bike is a little heavy at 35lbs. You don't really feel the weight though except for steep uphill climbs. The nut-buster seat had to go before my first ride! After my first ride, the front rim tweaked just a little bit, but after straightening it back out, I've had no problems with it since. Also, the Shimano Acera rapid-fire shifters with integral brake levers look and feel a little cheap, though they work just fine.
Similar Products Used:
Walmart Next Ultrashock (complete piece of sh*t!) Cannondale MX-300 Hardtail
Bike Setup:
The bike is completely stock except for a Bontrager 40 degree stem, Bontrager Crowbar bars with a 2" drop (for a more confortable riding position), and a cheap gel seat.
Bottom Line:
While this is not my first full-suspension bike, it is by far the best one I've ever owned. I ride this bike about 25 miles a week (which for some is not much), and I've never had to do much except adjust the shifters and brakes! Most of my riding is tight woods, 4-wheeler trails, and logging roads. The Warp DS-2 may not be the best of down-hill bikes, but for the average trail riding that I do with a few jumps thrown in for fun, it performs flawlessly. I got the bike for $600 and it was worth every dollar. Yes, the forks could be upgraded as well as the shifters and brake levers, but at least this bike is worth upgrading! Also, the only real differences between the Warp DS-1 and the DS-2 is that the DS-1 has better shifters (but the same Deore deraileur), slightly better forks and disc brakes. For $400 less, I can live without disc brakes on my DS-2!
