$1700.00 | | Purchased At: | AVENUE CYCLERY, San | | Strengths: | This comments are more of a "long term test". Frame & lefty fork durability. This is a 9 year old bike now, and it's seen (and me) some very nasty crashes and survived. So did I. Let's say the the front wheel hit a 1 ft tall log and got wedged at approx 15 MPH. The fork did not sustain any damage, I did. Anyway, the Lefty Fork has just been serviced by Cannobdale about 2 months ago, and is as good as new. Since then, I replaced, 2 drive trains, a rear wheel, headsets (upper & lower) plus the usual brake pads. The original fox vanilla rear shock still works but will be upgrading to a modified fox rp23 push shock. | | Weaknesses: | The original Hayes Mechanical brakes were useless and just inadvertently grabbed the disc and won't let go. This has since been replaced with a Hayes Hydraulic which works well. | | Similar Products Used: | Specilized Hardrock | | Bike Setup: | Shimano LX Drive train, new Mavic Crossland rear wheel (front is still stock CODA). Will be installing a new Push Industries shock. | | Bottom Line: | Love the bike. Had thoughts of replacing it but always ended up fixing or upgrading parts on it due to wear. With the terrain we ride on, I'm definitely impressed with the engineering that went into the frame & fork. Definitely, love the lefty for it's uniqueness and durability. Next bike? A Rush maybe.
The 5 flaming chillis are for the frame & fork. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from San Diego CA Date Reviewed: May 11, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Simply outstanding Kern Valley CA | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | Excellent rear suspension that doesn't washout when riding uphill. Good XC/Downhill noviceto intermediate ride | | Weaknesses: | Weight 32 pounds from the box. Wheels, for 1899.00 retail $900.00 of fork alone the least Cdale could do is put on some Mavic anythings vice Weinmann Z19's AKA pretzel time | | Similar Products Used: | GT sts 1500 Kona Stinky Seven | | Bike Setup: | XTR drivetrain there is no substitute! Magura Clara's front and rear, Mavic 317's WTB Velociraptors, Coda hubs thompson post and Kore elite stem easton Monkey lites Fox RC lockout. | | Bottom Line: | The initial set up on the drive train of lx-xt needs to be upgraded if you are going to do any serious riding. For the average weekend rider they suffice. The Rims that come with the bike will only last a few weeks without going pretzel on you so be ready to shell out a couple of clams and upgrade. The Frame is the main concern, for the money unless you have the mega bucks for the Raven you cant go wrong with the Super V. C dale needs to put either higher end Coda parts on the bike or strike a deal with some aftermarket companies. With some added bucks to the bike you can drop the poundage to 27-28 and come on Cdale you put the lock out shock on the low end Raven how about the higher end Super V's. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from San antonio TX Date Reviewed: April 30, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | One with many ledges | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | It is a quick handler. | | Weaknesses: | Bad brakes, endless drive train problems,Shock is slow and unpredictable, steering is twitchy at speed, horrible brakes and poor customer service. | | Similar Products Used: | Schwin 4 banger,GT I Drive,Kona Stinky | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | From the day I purchased this bike it has had problems.the first day out the lefty blew a seal.Every time I would ask when it would be fixed I was treated extremely rudely by both the dealership and cannondale. After a month without a bike the seal was finally replaced.one week the cable actuated disk quit working. Repeated trips to the shop finally got the brakes to give a half hearted effort to engage. Next I had drivetrain problems. On any climb with bumps the chain would fly off. when I took the bike into the shop they said I was riding incorrectly.Fed up I went to another shop who changed out the front chainrings and later the cogs on the rear. nothing I did could fix the problem .I guess it is pretty obvious I am not a fan of this bike, or the customer service I recieved while struggling with it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Surrey, B.C. Date Reviewed: January 24, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Bogieman | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | The design of the frame and fork. I like the stand-over clearance of all super-v's. The lefty is exceptional | | Weaknesses: | The general parts kit is a bit weak. The brakes should be better, but I guess when you put a great fork like the lefty something else has to suffer. Too bad they don't make a higher end alloy bike. Going to the Raven frame is unsuitable for the Crash em, Smash em riding we do in B.C. After Coda expert brakes and a few other mod's it is a great bike | | Similar Products Used: | Many types | | Bike Setup: | Race face cranks, 2.3 kujo rear, 2.6 Gazzolodi front, ryhno lites, 636 pedals | | Bottom Line: | After curing the brake issue I am very happy with this bike. It offers a 32lb North Shore ready bike. Mine has seen many large wheel drops with no grief. My rating would be top notch if the brakes were better | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from houston texas Date Reviewed: October 14, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | ...is overcrowded | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | design | | Weaknesses: | sloppy frame assembly | | Similar Products Used: | Various off-road bikes since '84, including two previous C-dales. | | Bottom Line: | Got a nasty surprise when I noticed that the seat tube on my $2000.00 C-dale was skewed to one side. C-dale replaced it with a 2nd bad frame. This time the bottom bracket shell was off center, causing the rear wheel (which was checked for proper dish) to be offset the same 3mm. I tore down the bike and sent it to the factory a their request. Five weeks later, they returned it stating that the frame was within their specs and refused to replace it with a properly assembled frame. I have since spoken with another local rider who had to send in his C-dale frameset for a skewed seat tube after he wore out one side of his $100.00 seat. His claim is still pending. It seems that Hand made in USA means sloppy frame assembly to these folks. I've since sold my bike at a substantial loss (I disclosed the frame problem to the buyer). Check your present or future C-dale frameset carefully, or you could be screwed too. Maybe their too busy making motorcycles to pay attention to bike production and customers. | Overall Rating: |
