Briiant 'do everything' bike - climbs as well as my hard tail, the lockput switch on the handlebar has worked flawlessly through an entire english winter and Alpine summer, suspension plush.
Seat a bit wide; also have had multiple headaches with the Avid Elixirs.
I'd recommend this bike strongly to UK weekend warriors; The suspension has behaved impeccably and the on the fly lockout will see you standing up and stamping past your awestruck friends; the only negative has been the Avid brakes, a brand which i will neer touch again due to repeated mechanicals, brake rub and even when they're working, a horrendous vibration noise.

Great flexibility to all conditions, very quick forks set-up on the hanlde bar, light weight for the setup (150mm). Tried in every condition 15km dowhill and 80km trip with 2000mt and it is great, really great. Traction mode works fine.
Cannot block only rear fork. Front derailleur (LX) can't get it setup perfectly!!! 2nd blade is supposed to works with all gears but in this bike is not. High PRICE. Due to the rear shock type (pull) it block itself when bracking
It was my best purchasing for an all mountain bike: it works perfectly in every condition: extreme uphill, fast downhill and technical path as well as standard streets. Very precise and confortable downhill. Even if the price is high for the bike setup (and I added mavic crossmax ST), the overall value is very good.

Awesome bike in nasty terrain. The rear genius shock is predictable and consistent. The 150 MM travel makes tough trails easier to ride. Very light for a mountain bike.
Pressure in rear shock is very high. Need special shock pump in order to tune bike
Love this bike so far!

Like the triple action rear shock at the flick of a lever from the handle bars. Handles well. Light at 12.5kg.
1 week after purchase I had to rplace the rear shock due to bottoming out. The new still did the same after about 4 months. The rear shock bush has gone, expensive to replace as part of full kit. HAd to replace rear wheel as bearings had gone, couldn't replace hub. Not happy with this part of it.
Good bike but not happy with the expense of the parts had to relace. Never had to this with any other bike.

Rides well. Awesome adjustbale fox front shock. Great components. at 28lbs light enough to race XC but 6" travel enough for all mountain. Best do it all bike.
None so far.
This review is for the new generation Genius 2009.
This bike is really great. It does it all. Good trail bike for all terrains. Best bike for climbing I have ever ridden. I race XC with this bike and do not feel at a disadvantage even at 28lbs. I also ride the local bike park and this bike is all I need. The Fox forks are adjustable from 110-130-150mm. Every one should have these unless you are a weigh weenie.
Comfortable ride. I did part of a 24hr event on this bike (shared the ride with a 29er) and never had a problem.
Can't say enough about this bike. Great all around bike.

Bike is very fast and is easy to ride in tight conditions.Front and Rear shocks are amazing . Sram9 is incrediable
Rear shock takes some tinkering .
I was use to riding a 29" MCR this bike makes the MCR look like a school bus on the trail . If i had one complaint it would be that it takes some tinkering with the rear shock to get it just right . The bike for the money is sick .

3 Mode rear shock (with remote selector), my favourite part of the rear shock is the Traction Control mode, spend 80% of my time in this mode. Sucks up a lot of the bumping.
Front shock is good, the U-turn is nice all be it I seem to stick to 130mm setting. Lock out on the rear and the bike feels just like a boaring hardtail, no matter how hard you pedal. Weight for a dual suspension bike in this price range is awesome. Mine weighs in at 12.5kg.
Front derailleur (LX) can't get it setup perfectly for the range I like to ride in, when on 2nd blade on the front, the chain rubs when in gears 1-3 on the rear. Sometimes does change down from the large front gear.
Front brake no matter what rubs. Tried a number of tricks, but it tends to provide unneccessary resistance. Could be a dud disc.
Excellent bike, no regrets, perhaps if I could shop over again, I would choose a better shop to buy from.
Very comfortable, saves plenty energy by absorbing the shock transferred from the rear by the standard hardtail.

i have ridden the bike for 2 years and do very little maintainance on it,im ashamed to say,but thats testiment to the strength of the bike.great allround bike.good crosscountry bike, great downhill.it likes to jump too.it flatters its rider, makes me look and feel good on it.it gets good comments by other bikers on rides, even if some are bike snobs.only limited by the rider.
creaks a bit,but im heavy so maybe that has something to do with it?? could do with little bit more rear travel for some of the stupid riding ive done (stainburn forrest,uk).my mate purchased one at the same time and broke a rear suspension pivot on it,but it was replaced under warranty.had problems with pace rc40 carbon forks i upgraded to,not on normal spec,so dont worry. product weaknes: me,the rider.expensive shock service.
the dogs. if you feel this bike isnt good enough for you then you are a far better/stupid rider than me and your name is probably steve peatt

Beautifully balanced, easy to adjust suspension, has lockout system for rear shock, awesome handling, turns heads.
Seat post slips. Has some cheaper deore hubs, shifters etc. Mine had a dudd rear shock.
This bike will make a slow rider into a fast one in weeks. The Fox Talas forks are the bomb and are a good reason to buy this bike over the MC50. XTR derailer changes gears smooth and whenever I want (some people don't like dual control levers though). Downhill this bike has superb handling. The front and back suspension work to keep those tires on the ground through bumpy terain so you get fantastic traction and control. Uphill you can lockout and away you go.
My bike initially had a dudd TC rear shock (was losing air between chambers). Shop replaced with another one no hassles. Been tip top since then.

All-round superb machine. Goes up like a greased gerbil in Richard Gere, and comes down twice as fast (and smoothly). Beautifully designed fully-adjustable suspension.
Nothing serious. Comes with sissy deore hubs, cassette and cranks, so you'll need to upgrade- brake pads (LX) and tyres (Scott Cougar)need replacing too as they're low performance. Has my name written all over it.
This bicycle is awesome, I ride it 100km weekly, mostly offroad. The Scott MC40 is a cross-country bike which is tough enough to class as a free-ride beast. It climbs like a spider-monkey on crystal meth (fast and fleet-footed), both in full suspension mode (5.1 inches) and 'traction control' (3.5 inches). On the flats it floats on 5 inches of front and rear air-springs without bobbing, and accelerates hard. Downhills are bliss; intense, insane, indestructable, ball-tearing high-speed bliss. The bike is light (12.5 kg) yet strong with excellent build quality. I highly endorse this black beauty, using the maximum quota of flamin' turds...
