Submitted by grazo22 a Downhiller from Kent, UK
Date Reviewed: July 15, 2008
Favorite Trail:Mereworth Woods
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:ebay
Strengths:A blimmin' sexy frame that's strong as granite. Comes with good maxis tyres and feels a joy to ride
Weaknesses:Came with slightly compromised parts like a very long stem and 2nd rate x-mission branded parts.
Similar Products Used:GT avalanche 2.0
Bike Setup:Merida Am500
Halo Freedom disc wheels with spin doctor hubs
Marzocchi 55r
Hope dh 50mm 25 deg stem
Titec prolight bars
FSA Gamma drive
Shimano deore gearing
Maxxis ignightor 2.35 tyres
Bottom Line:My bike is an AM500 not an AM500-d so it cam with RockShox dart 2, DP17 Rims and unbranded hubs but this is essentially the same bike with same level components. I would highly recommend changing the stem to free yourself from back ache. Change the forks. The guys at merida told me I could have up to 140mm forks on without destroying the handleing.

What a great bike. I like it even more because hardly anybody has one!

Submitted by Nelson Mandela a Weekend Warrior from Malaysia
Date Reviewed: April 12, 2007
Favorite Trail:Kiara/RRI/Andalas
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1111.00
Purchased At:KSH
Strengths:has got to be the frame. solid, heavy duty, all terrain but light + those Hayes 9 brakes really brake hard!
Weaknesses:the super stiff suntour fork/shox. the 100mm stem.
Similar Products Used:nearest would be my Lerun Krakaton
Bike Setup:everything stock except for the Amoeba OS 60mm stem + an OS Truvativ Holzfella DH riserbar
Bottom Line:good bike for the budget minded person like me. this bike can be quite heavy to some, so XC riders, this is not your bike! it is meant for all mountain rides only and it gets the job done. downhill is a pleasure but uphill needs effort. also, this bike comes with good parts like alexrims Supra 4X, Maxxis 2.35 tyres, XT RD, Shimano cranks, Hayes 9 hydraulics etc. the only thing you should change is the front fork.
