Great all-round enduro/hard trail riding bike. Stiff frame and great travel for the weight of the frame. Location for water bottle screws are in a good location to set a plastic frame protector, from all the rocks that hit the frame on the downhill runs.

Impressively light for a bike with 5.5" of travel, well balanced suspension, nimble and quick steering, excellent climber, durable spec, very comfortable.
Weaknesses:
The XT brakes squeal when wet but have amazing modulation and power. When the pads wear out, I will search out a different compound. The Maxxis High Rollers are crappy tires for the terrain I ride.

Bike Setup:
Stock except I removed the big ring from the cranks and replaced it with a bash guard. The Maxxis High Roller tires are heavy, narrow and grip poorley. I replaced them with 2.1" folding bead Kenda Nevegals that are converted to tubeless with Stan's. The setup works perfect with the Mavic 819 rims. I gained traction, lost nothing on width or tire and lost about 600 grams of rotating mass by changing the tires! I swapped the stock pedals for a pair of Crank Brothers Candy pedals.
Bottom Line:
I got an excellent deal on a new bike that was a year old (2005 model). The bike has an excellent cross country feel to it. It isn't a free-ride bike; it is not stable enough or stong enough. It took a little while to find the perfect balance of shock pressure and SPV pressure in the Swinger 3way. But once I found it, it turned out to be the same as what Cannondale recommends! I did find that initially I needed less air in the shock as it was almost a bit sticky or tight. After a couple of rides the shock became nicely broken in and is very smooth. I never thought that the Lefty was a good idea but I am now a believer! The fork feels stiffer that the Marzocchi Z1 FR SL on my Norco and it weighs about 2 pounds less. The XT dual control is different but works perfectly fine and I have had no problems with it. As my bike is setup it weighs close to 27 pounds for a size large. I would buy another Prohpet 2000 in a heart beat. The 1000's spec isn't as good as the 2000's, but the 4000 is a lot more money for parts that aren't really that much better. I had strongly considered buying a Rush instead but there was very little weight difference between the two. The extra travel doesn't seem to make it any less efficient. I do think that the bottom bracket on the Rush is too low for the riding here BC.

Excellent Build Quality, Robust Finish(Galvanised),Good Componentry. Excellent Suspension Performance from the Lefty and Manitou Shock. Cool Looks.
Weaknesses:
The only weaknesses are minor component dislikes. I could not get on with the ODI lock on grips or the Fizik saddle so I have subsequently changed them. Cable changing(Through the frame) is a bit of a pain as well. Could not see the great benefit of tubeless tyres to us regular Joe's, leave them for the pro racers.

Bottom Line:
As a predominately cross country rider who undertakes in endurance events,I was apprehensive that this'Dale'would be more freeride based, however this is not the case. I am one of those weirdos who loves to climb and the Prophet does not disappoint, it digs into loose climbs beautifully and out of the saddle their is negligible bob. Couple this with an ability to descend at insane speeds and you really have a great all round bike . Value wise it is a very expensive bike here in the UK, however I was lucky to get an ex-demonstrater, so it loses one chilli on value.

Bottom Line:
Exchanged my Scalpel for this one and I am totally happy with it. Going uphill is a little more strain than with the Scalpel (at least before getting rid of some weight, bought it originally with Formula Extreme discs, which are way too heavy and powerful for my weight), but going down the hill is so much more fun! This baby eats any terrain I could throw at it and it feels completely controllable all the time. I didn't quite take the time to look for a different product to spend my money on, but I definately do not regret this investment.

This bike is totally awesome and worth every penny. Also....I got mine cheap (35% less than having to buy it locally in Switzerlan).
1 minute to change to a downhill monster from a nimble mountain goat, which climbs anything and everything. I had a Jekyll before. This just wipes the floor in comparison in all departments.
The main gripe I have is the lefty. When diallied in its awesome, but even after an 80aid refit, it still needs resetting after every second ride - it loses its small bump absorbtion. Nonetheless still a great fork.

The bike has good all-around capabilities. It allows you to enjoy all aspects of mountain biking from fast single track and enduro events to downhill coarses & light free riding. The great thing about a 5inch travel bike like the prophet is that it can pretty much do everything. With a lifetime warranty on the frame, who cares about hitting the big drops & stunts with this bike. The lefty is a good performing front setup and incredibly stiff. Cannondale service has been good here in Australia.
Weaknesses:
single pivot design relys on SPV for pedaling plateform, therefore setup takes some time to find the sweet spot. At the end of the day, it is still pretty poor in the small bumb absorption department. Also, the sweetspot changes for different riding conditions. It sometimes gets to be a pain in the neck to change from XC to FR, and then change the shock air pressure & rebound accordingly. Freeride setting makes bottom bracket to low resulting in crank arm punishment and pedal destruction. Dual controls are better off on 4 inch XC bikes. You end up either shifting or braking by accident sometimes on rough terrain. Stem is way long and angle to steep, bars too narrow, tires are slow, quick release on set post poor. Finally, that rear hub is a piece of crap. It lasted me one month and I was in a remote area when it blew. -- bummer!

The bike is way improved with a few extras. It is probably not worth the extra for the 2000 over the 1000 as you can save the extra money and spend it on making the 1000 perfect.

Overall design. Suspension, combination of long travel and SPV make this bike a joy to ride anywhere. Components - cdale did a decent job hooking the 2000 up with a decent set of parts, I've only wanted to change a few. Cosmetics - this thing just looks cool - and it gets a lot of looks at the parking lot of your favorite trail!
Weaknesses:
1) Cable routing - had to have housings replaced twice in 6 months due to mud ingress. 2) Stock tires - this can really go either way, they work, handle well, suck up bumps, float across mud, and help you build strength - so they really aren't that bad if your just out riding around, but the flip side is they are slow and seem like a lot of rubber to haul around with you. If you want to ride fast with your buddies or race then consider getting a second pair, I'm keeping mine for "training"! 3) Water bottle mounting - yeah right, the bike doesn't have one! Well actually it does have one, but it's useless. Invest in a nice camelpack and forget about it.

This is an incredible riding bike. It's smooth as can be on any trail. The Lefty 140 can suck up some big hits without fear. It has multiple frame settings - FR/XC but it rides so well in XC mode I've never even considered changing it to FR, I may have to just to try it out! It climbs nice and the SPV seems to work really well. It handles great as well, fast switchbacks, tight uphill switchbacks - no problem! Great overall bike that can be made even better with just a few upgrades! Highly recommended after 6 months on Prophet!

The Prophet is the best bicycle I have ever ridden. The best thing about this bike is that I can forget about on the trail and just ride. The suspension takes a bit to get it tweaked just right, but the Cannondale recommended start points are very close. The stock stem and bar had to be replaced as the length and angle of the stem was too long and I do not like riser bars. I love my bike and the looks half a fork provides. The carbon Lefty has zero flex and has saved my butt a few times.
Weaknesses:
The downtube had sharp edges before I smoothed them with a Dremel polishing wheel. The sharp edges put a deep scratch in the carbon fiber seat post’s gel coating. Also the seat post clamp makes a creaking sound exactly like the sound you do not want to hear when you are tightening anything made out of carbon fiber. But you get used to this sound after a few times. The shims on the XT front brake caliper are a pain as well during removal or installation of the front wheel. Switch the rear tire around and it works much better on XC trails.

Weight to strength/regity ratio, price performance (at least $1000 less than anything near its weight at five inches), Cannondale service/maintenance - lefty is an advantage and also a weakness. It is very difficult to find a bike that can do what this bike does w/o having to gain 3lbs... and you'll have a fork that is not as laterally stiff. Its a very strong overall package. I wone a super D race on it and can take 4 foot drops pretty well. Anything larger and I feel is too much for suspension and if you land wrong can start to tweak things.
Weaknesses:
Chain stay length is my biggest issue. This is a personal preference thing, but I would like a more swoopy ride experience thats easier to manual back to the rear wheel. The other thing is that I've net been able to tune my lefty to have the plushness I would like for some situations. I am 177lbs and put in the lightest spring and its still too stiff for general XC riding. Now when speeds get higher and drops and things come into play its perfect. I would like the ability to adjust and wish it was air spring like the lefty on my old jeckyl.
very solid performer. Pretty much impossible to find a bike this light with this much travel and this rigid... and the price is like at least 1000 lower than other similar bikes.

The Prophet 2000 is a true Cannondale, a bike like no other. But it takes a few adjustments to become perfect. The handlebars need either to be lifted with an angled CODA stem, or replaced with riser bars, everyone seems to agree on that. Contrary to other reviewers, I found the standard Maxxis High Roller 2.35 tires simply WRONG for the bike. They behave like eraser tops on a pencil and I dropped my average by 10% on the same track, until I changed to the Kenda Karma which give the bike a perfect balance, with no loss of traction, but a huge gain in speed. Cannondale stuck to its tradition of not providing sensible mounting points for a pump and water bottle. On the prophet the only place allowed is "underfloor" between the pedals, where all but the most expensive graphite side open bottle cage will catch the front derailleur cable. No chance of mounting any kind of pump anywhere... The Shimano XT Dual Control shifters that are integrated in the brake lever (like on road bikes) take getting used to and I doubt they will ever be as fast and "sure" as the more conventional shifters. All too easy, in the heat of the moment, when shifting, one tends to accidentally activate the brake as well. Better leave them to the crouched road riders. Speaking of brakes ... no attention was given to the routing of the rear break cable /hydraulic tube over the swingarm, your left heel catches it until you give up and resort to an ugly cable tie job to secure the offending cable! Like on the V-series, there is not much ground clearance. In fact the bike and pedalarms are dangerously low for an offroad bike. A large yellow warning sticker might be called for to alert riders that this bike sits lower on the ground than normal offroad bikes, and it is thus advisable to keep both pedals horizontal when going over obstacles (even though this kind of defeats the object). If you want to be safe, you will set the Prophet’s adjustable geometry to the 69 degree head angle position for x-c style handling, but you’ll lose the nice long wheelbase feeling. In contrast, the cheaper Giant VT has ample and fantastic ground clearance. But it won’t climb and descend nearly as well as the Prophet. The Prophet has a perfectly balanced and “stiff” geometry. It’s the real thing. The engineering edge is evident, Cannondale is the leader and others follow. It’s like driving a Porsche or a Mazda RX-8. The door handles on the RX-8 may be positioned and shaped more perfectly than those of the Porsche. But the excitement won’t care!

I'm too old to launch off anything really sick, but I love twisty rooty singletrack and so does this bike! Climbs well, descends well...I've even ridden it to work a few times! (Yes 5.5 inches of travel is a little bit of overkill for a canal path. Sort of like hunting butterflies with a shotgun...)
Factory recommended suspension settings work well for my weight, but I'd like more rebound damping from the fork and I have it maxed....?
Three flamin' turds for value (kind of spendy) and five for the bike itself.

Takes downhills very well. The suspension works extremely well especially when you have it dialed in for your weight (use the card that recomends the settings). Less moving parts in rear suspension = less to go wrong.
Weaknesses:
No weaknesses for the type of bike that it is. Certainly in a perfect world the same bike with five pounds shaved off would be better. Cables needed tightening immediately after buying the bike.

The bike is very good. I've gone on about 15 rides with it and it rides very well. It is comfortable to ride as well. No one yet has mentioned the positioning of the handle bars. They sit higher than the bikes I tested (and higher than any bikes I have ever riden). This brings some of the cross-country aspect away from the bike and gives a more comfortable riding position. It is not an ideal bike for racing, but if you like to have fun riding a bike, this is the way to go. It is comfortable and fast and will take you down anything and up almost anything. Highly recomended for any rider, except those who who throw away the valve covers on their tubes to save weight or those who love trying to break their fastest time on a fifty mile fire road. This bike is a lot of fun

I uprgraded from a Jeckyll to the Prophet. The Prophet is a Jeckyll on steroids. Huge difference. Once I dialed in the suspension the Prophet floats over anything in front of it. The front and rear suspension seem like they're interconnected. The Lefty max has to be the best fork ever. The prophet has totally advanced my riding ability. Especially on steep downhills and five-foot drop offs.
Weaknesses:
The only thing that bugged me about the Prophet is the rear derailer cable routing. Not much thought went into it.

The Prophet 2000 is an awesome trail rig. It is a single pivot design with adjustable freeride and xc geometry. The bike climbs well and is light enough for long rides and is very fast and nimble on downhill and technical sections of single track. Great cable rounting plus there is routing through the rear swing arm. Bike is capable of light duty freeriding but dont over do it. It has 145mm of travel. 1.5 headtube.

This very well could be the only bike you need. This bike can handle trail riding and also light duty freeriding and downhilling. In trail riding situations this bike eats everything in its path. My rig is a full custom build at 30.25 pounds. If you are rider with lack of space in your house for two bikes or dont have the cash for two rigs, then this is your bike. If you feel sceptical about C-Dale Lefty forks then swap it out with a Nixon or Pike and you will have more of a light duty freeride machine that can still be ridden like a cross coutry bike.

great bike, but the hub sucks. i didn't believe how fast the rear hub was broken. i believe i was on my forth ride and the rear bearing just pop out so the shifting and disc was off. took it to the LBS and fix it within a day. i don't do crazy stuff so i was really mad at the quality of the hub. but i will said prophet is the best trail bikes out there.

Bike Setup:
STOCK BUT I SWITCHED THE WHEELS WITH MAVIC CROSSMAX AND I PUT A TITANIUM SPRING IN THE FORK. I ALSO SWITCHED THE TIRES OUT FOR MAXXIS RANCHEROS W/ STANS NO TUBES.
Bottom Line:
THIS BIKE IS VERY IMPRESSIVE IT CLIMBS VERY WELL AND IT DECENDS EVEN BETTER, I WOULD SAY IT IS A GOOD BALANCE BETWEEN THE TWO. THE FRAME IS VERY STIFF AND LIGHT WEIGHT, IF YOU WANT A BIKE THAT CAN CLIMB JUST AS WELL AS IT DECENDS THEN TAKE A LOOK AT THE PROPHET. I HAVE RIDDEN AND TESTED ALL OF THE MAJOR COMPETITORS BIKES AND THE PROPHET PERFORMS JUST AS WELL AS THE TURNER, INTENSE, TITUS AND YETI. THE LEFTY IS GREAT ON THIS BIKE I CALLED CANNONDALE AND PURCHASED A TITANIUM SPRING JUST LIKE THE PROPHET 4000. THIS HELPS DROP SOME WEIGHT PLUS IT IS VERY RESPONSIVE. I SWOPPED THE WHEELS OUT TO LIGHTEN UP THE BIKE A LITTLE BIT MORE. I WWOULD RECCOMEND THIS BIKE TO ANYBODY WHO LIKES A BIKE THAT CAN DO IT ALL AND DO IT JUST AS GOOD AS ANY OF THE OTERS MENTIONED ABOVE.

Strengths:
Frame geometry, suspension, handling, components, fewer pieces to break on the dully.

Heavier than most xc rigs.

Bike Setup:
Shimano XT dual control shifters and dis brakes,XT cranks, Lefty Carbon Max fork with SPV, Manitou Swinger shock with SPV, Mavic 819 disc rims with Cannondale hubs, all stock with the 2000. Mine has Shimano 959 pedals, Fizik Gobi seat, and WTB Weirwolf 2.1 UST tires.
Bottom Line:
I just finished the annual 12 Miles of Hell race here in Oklahoma which is a rugged mountainbike race with steep climbs, rocky single track with big drops and step-ups and 650 riders taking off at the same time. The bike worked great. I rode all the drops and most of the climbs which I had not been able to do before. The only problem I had with shifting was my mistakes by shifting the wrong way(I'm not use to the dual control yet) and the brakes were terrific. I felt in better control than anything I have ever ridden.
