There are better designs out. The who XC or freeride settings are a joke. XC puts your center of gravity too high and makes tight cornering a joke. Freeride works well. Parts are good.

Sure there are bikes of equal or better out now, but this bike was bought 2nd hand with about 1000KM and needed not much to get it in top notch condition. I hammer this bike and it has not let me down other than a buckled well after a particularly gnarly touchdown. The lefty is no problem other that very minor issue of taking off the wheel. (takes all of about 3 minutes). Even then it fitted into my car better than a standard twin fork. Now I have a rack so no issue at all. Problem in Aust is these are expensive bikes off the shelf..but hey if money aint an issue go spoil yourself.

Bottom Line:
I wouldn’t buy this bike again and wouldn’t recommend it. your hard earned money could be used more wisely. I was very happy with this bike when I first bought it, all decent bikes started around $4000 back then (in Switzerland), but now not so happy with it. After having it for a little over three years and only having done around 2500km on it there are a few problems. A friend bought a Specialized Enduro around the same time and his bike is problem free. My biggest gripe is the brakes. I have spent countless Francs trying to get them not to bind just that little bit, permanently. Going uphill is really disheartening when you know your brakes are fighting against you and in Switzerland going uphill is a given. I am now thinking of replacing the brakes, but I only have the option to choose disc brakes again. The lefty is cool but not practical, having your front wheel permanently attached to your bike makes it kind of difficult to get into your car. Having to take off the disc brake calliper if you want to take the whole wheel off is stupid and who carries the right size allen key in their pocket all the time?

The super V feels almost rigid (not a big suprise, but it feels stiffer than it used to). I like the fact that they are still making the bike in the US and haven't shipped overseas (like the Yeti, Titus). I also really liked the Yeti 575, but it doesn't seem to climb as well- although I didn't have time to play with adjustments. Also, this bike was WAY cheaper than the Yeti. I believe this has to be one of the best all around bikes out there- will update review over time.

Lefty is the quickest fork out there for 140 mm. It does not pull left no matter what people say, you can ride it no handed all you want and it will go straight. Since it is coil sprung it has smooth, consistent travel only rivaled by the maverick which is a $700 fork. This bike is incredibly well balanced, and eats up anything, the gnarlier the terrain the more this bike shines, and it is quick, this bike handles like a XC bike with a little more squish. The Juicy sevens are incredible even with the stock rotors, and the stock tires aren't too bad, although they are not a true 2.35 (my friends specialized 2.0s are just as wide) but they get the job done. Tubeless tires are the sickness, they ride awesome. The frame is beautiful, every frame manufacturer should grind their welds since it gives such a clean look. Looks funny.
Weaknesses:
If you want to put it on the top of a car and you have to take off the front wheel, you need to get a fork up, but thats about it.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
Ride it, everyone badmouths the lefty but they have never ridden it. It is one of the stiffest, quickest forks out there. This bike shines in technical situations where the more ass kicking the terrain the better the ride. Very predictable and balanced and that makes it fast. And once you get going the suspension will soak up everything so if you miss your line you wont pay for it, the bike will just charge through and keep tracking where it needs to go. Looks weirder than most other bikes and that makes it fun to look at. This is one burly bike that will take what you throw at it, and it climbs pretty darn well for a single pivot five and a half inch bike. Five chilis all the way around for a quality bike that comes spec'd better than anything in the same price range, and for the quality of the frame fit and finish. Makes you want to ride everyday, and that is a good thing to have in a bike.

Soild, simple and nimble for such a tall ride. Plenty of travel that seems to role over anything. Single pivot rules! Coolest looking thing I could afford. Mostly made in USA.
Weaknesses:
Tires! They are narly but slow. It feels like I'm on a motorcycle dirt bike. I couldn't get going full speed on some well traveled hills just due to resistance. You set higher then most bikes of this weight. I can't raise the seat enough to get full pedal extension for XC. Climbing was good teel it got steep. I'm taller and need more extension on the stem. Little bumpes were felt with the SPV Lefty. The Lefty pulls left, imagine that (try to ride with no hands).

Single pivot rules. My son has a 2000 Santa Cruz Heckler that feels similar. My 97' Super V 900 Comp's pivot has never let me down. The Fatty 60 and the Fox Vanilla didn't have a lot of travel by today's standards but it is all you need when your 15 to 20 miles from any help by yourself in the off-season. The Super V gave me the confidence to push myself to the next level of climbing and descending and not worry about integrity of the machine not matching my growing ability. It final got a creak just this last year in the main pivot which I've never taken apart in its six thousand plus miles. The Prophet feels like it will last a decade with little maintenance but only time will tell. I'm going to upgrade the Fatty 60 to the new 80 on the Super V and keep riding it XC and get my roadwork in on the Specialized M4, but my son and I are fighting for the Prophet when we're going downhill.

With the Turner I am faster and more of an I'm in control feeling going downhill. The Prophet may climb just a little better. If you could find one for 1800 dollars go for it but for 2400 plus you could build some thing better. I have since transfered most of the parts worth keeping to a Turner 5-spot frame, including the Lefty with an adaptor from Project 3.2.1. You would be far better off finding a decent frame & buying the components you like and build your own bike.

Strengths:
Great all around bike. Will last a long time. It feels like this bike can take on terrain that you don't think you can handle. It really inspires confidence.
Another plus (that may justify the higher price than other brands) is the "Made in USA" frame. My feeling is that I'll by American products if they are "world class". This bike is world class.
Weaknesses:
Handlebars too wide for cross country, and LX shifters encroach on hand placement. Can't cut bars down as fat portion of bars is too wide to be able to move the shifters inboard much. I had a lot of trouble seating the spokes. They kept loosening up on me. Keep checking the tension, as it's important with all the torque of the disk brakes going through the spokes. Tires seem a little too fat and heavy for my cross-country trail riding preferences, but they're not too bad.
Similar Products Used:
GT LTS-1 full suspension, Stumpjumper 98.
Bike Setup:
Truvativ bars with 2" cut off length for X-country.
Bottom Line:
I really like this bike, even after 1 year of riding it. It is 500% better and more confidence inspiring than my older $2700 GT LTS-1 (Piece of Junk and lots of maintenance and pivot squeaks on that 4-bar linkage!)
With how easy it goes downhill, I'm amazed how good it is going uphill also. There's no undue bobbing that causes loss of traction on uphill grinds.
I like the promise of low maintenance with a single pivot. The pivot bearings seem strong with no lateral flex. The bike rides like a dream.
I wasn't sure that I'd like the Left fork, without all the upgraded control doodads that are on the more expensive bikes. After 1 long ride, I'm very impressed with the Lefty fork - no lateral flex, spring rates and damping are very good. Don't worry about the Lefty looks. It's not a gimmick- it works.
Rear air shock seal holding up fine so far with minimal cleaning (no protective boot on the shock). Zero air leaks. Shock action is fine, with no harsh stiction effect like the early days of air shocks.
Highly recommended for an "all around bike". It's fine for casual, all day cross country use (not racing). I don't "freeride", but there's tons of confidence when going fast downhill- nothing willowy about this bike.

Everyone complains about the tires but there have been times im glad ive had them they've given me traction in places where my friends and fellow riders were forced to hike a bile(some back country over some fields of foxtails)
Were planning a end of summer trip up to some downhill lift assasited stuff and im looking forward to trying the "freeride" setting and im planning on putting on some flats for trip.
My leftys rebound dial was locked which took a week to fix. Since then its been great.
Its a much differnt ride than the stumpjumper fsr so the best advice i can give is go out there and just ride as many bikes as you can then make a choice. If you can only afford one bike the prophet is far from a bad choice. The trails in the bay area are not lift assaisted so you gotta get yourself to the top of anything you wanna go down.

I should mention that this is a review of the 2005 model.
I love this bike. It climbs pretty well and descends amazingly. The slack head angle and solid suspension help out on the downhills. The overall ride quality is great.
I did have some problems, however. The stock tires were TERRIBLE. They rolled incredibly slow and just felt sluggish and heavy. The Michelins I put on were a huge improvement. They grip better and roll faster. The stock cranks' bearings wore out very quickly and developed some kind of spindle length/alignment problem. My LBS was very good about it and gave me a set of XT cranks for nothing, but it was annoying. I replaced the stock bars in favor of wider ones for better control and leverage. The stock bars were decent but should have been designed with more room for shifter and lever placement.
The biggest complaint I have is about the Lefty. The first one I had, the rebound knob didn't work at all- it just spun and changed nothing. I got a replacement off another floor bike, which worked okay but developed a clunk and some play at the top of the travel. My shop and I have tried to fix it, but nothing really works. The performance of the fork is quite good, though. The issues I have are annoying, but do not change the overall performance. The fork is well controlled and takes bumps pretty well even with the SPV.
I still give the bike a 4 because I love the way it rides overall. Compared to my VT, it may not climb quite as well (particularly in the slack setting, which is where I keep it) but it certainly descends better and is probably more fun to ride, which is really the point.

Great frame and suspension! Very good components and wheelset. Lots of clearence under the BB.
Weaknesses:
OE tires didn't grip well the first few times I rode in the wet. Slipped on wet stuff, especially tree roots.
Similar Products Used:
First fully suspended bike
Bike Setup:
Upgraded front rotor to 185mm, removed Maxxis tire for Specialized Enduro Pro (?), swapped stem for one with same geometry but for 25.4 bar and added Easton Monkey XC. Bike is otherwise stock.
Bottom Line:
I had ridden a friends Prophet briefly before I bought one and I am so glad that I did. This bike makes me feel invincible on the trail. The suspension allows me to pick my line and pedal. Any obstacles in the path are quickly eaten up by the suspension. The factory recommended settings are a very good place to start when setting up the supsension. I've gone 5 lbs lower on the SPV air on the rear but everything else is set to factory recommendation. I also upgraded the front rotor to 185mm but probably could have left the 160mm in place. I've done a lot of trails and some moderate downhill with this bike and I can say that I'm slightly slower climbing but much faster on the trail and slightly faster on descents than on my other bike. Drops are a lot easier to negotiate now with 140mm of travel. Truly a great frame and suspension!
The bad: I immediately took a disliking to the stock tires. It had rained the day I bought my bike and I found that the tires hated wet tree roots. I dropped the pressure a bit but couldn't find a place that made them happy. They also seemed to load up with mud pretty easily. I changed them that night for a set of Specialized Enduro Pros with a less densely packed tread pattern and I've never looked back. Those tires let me crawl right over roots and logs. I also swapped out the stem for one that would let me mount a 25.4 bar. The stock FSA was too fat for me to mount the clamp for my lights and it was was wider than the bar on my other bike so I was banging off trees that I knew I would have gotten past on my other bike. A new 110mm 20 degree neck and an Easton Monkey XC and I was back in business.
If you buy this bike you won't be disappointed! I give it 5 chilis for value and 4 for overall satisfaction. There are more expensive bike than the Prophet but I will stack this against them anyday. If it weren't for the tires and the wide bar I'd give it 5 for overall satisfaction. Gotta give them something to work on I suppose.

First off let me say thanks to Andrew Schiffer at C'dale, without him, I would not be riding this kick ass bike. This bike is light and still able to suck it up. I have now pedaled this Prophet 1000 on my favorite trails in Pisgah Forest and it is an unbelievable bike. It pedals up hill very well on those famous rocky, steep technical climbs. It also descends without missing a beat, very balanced front and rear, no shimy's, shakes or anything but confidence inspiring flow. The Lefty rocks, I have "missed" plenty of times while descending at high rates of speed, through very rocky sections and this thing sucks it up. The fairly light weight and Manitou Swinger 3 provides great pedaling for the uphills.
Weaknesses:
Not really anything glaring. When bike is set up in the "freeride" position (67.5 degree), the bottom bracket is a little low, but with a little getting used to it, I am not noticing it anymore.

Bottom Line:
I have ridden quite a few bikes in alot of places, and the Prophet is definately fighting for the best one ever. For the steep and long climbs of Bent Creek, Pisgah and Dupont, and rippin' back down, I have never ridden a better bike. I know there are better climbers and there are better descenders, but the Prophet's ability to do both really well is awesome. Nicely done Cannondale, and it is made in USA!

When I first bought this bike I was new to the high end world so I did a lot of homework. I tested bike for about 4 months. This bike is light for the beating you can give it. I have raced it a couple of time and it not only performs like a champ but it gets a lot of attention. The suspension holds well on climbs and eats the rocks up on the downs. A great all around bike.
Weaknesses:
Whe I first bought the bike the rear swingarm was rubbing the seatpost tube. After about 8 weeks in the shop and a couple of deals made with Cannondale things got worked out. It's perfect now and I have had no real problem since.
This bike is a great bike if you are serious about hitting some trails or if you want to get serious. It has a great frame that won't need to be replaced for years to come unless you just have to have the latest and greatest. Aside from the super wicked hucks, this bike will take some serious abuse and beg for more. If you want to strictly race then get something lighter but if you want to race and then get a little wild and can't afford another bike (like me), then get this bad boy and hit it hard.

Great suspension, steady and very plush ride. Will handle anything I have the guts to tackle. The geometry is very good, the bike has a stiff and steady feeling that gives me confidence during drops. No noticeable bobbing if seated. The SRAM rear derailleur is better than anything I have experience with.
Weaknesses:
The crank to begin with, I had trouble with the front shifting, the derailleur was replaced with an XT, then the crank to a Shimano XT and that solved the problem (thumbs up to my bike shop - great service). SPV is great if you stay in the saddle but if you get up it will bob like hell, that does not happen with locked suspensions. I did not make up my mind regarding the saddle if it is a weakness or not. The handle bar id very thick in the center, a problem to install standard equipment (light etc). The stock tire, builds up mud very fast and looses traction, I did not figure out a solution for that yet (scary if you are down hill on a dirt trail in the rain).
Stock except - Shimano XT crank, Shimano XT front deraileur, Ergon grips, Shimano M647 pedals (tried the Crank Brothers Candy as well but my shoes where not compatible).
Bottom Line:
This is no road bike, it needs dirt to get going, The 2.35 tires are heavy on the road but awesome on dirt and jumps. I am an experienced lousy rider so I need a bike to correct my mistakes, this is almost a point and go bike. The bike is full of surprises and once the crank was replaced all good. The lefty fork provides a very plush and smooth ride noticed especially during 4-5 feet drops, this is an All mountain bike that is almost a XC, climbs pretty well compare to XC racing bikes and hard tails and is pretty light at about 15 lbs. Great going down hill and will not punish you for minor path selection errors. The shifting especially the SRAM x-9 in the rear is great, precise and quick, and the bike is tuff and made for abuse. I have no regrets purchasing it and recommend it to anybody who likes some downhill single tracks to spice the cross country. Some tips: To those with seat post problems, I just replaced the ring (about 4 $) and solved the problem. New disk brakes require basic adjustment easily achieved by inserting a business card into the space between the brake pads and the disk and pull the brake handle this will cause the brakes to adjust with a bit more space, eliminating a lot of squeaking and stuck brakes.

Weaknesses:
High Rollers are alright for off road on low pressure but I need to ride on roads to get to the trail. They are no good off road at 50psi and are no good on road at 40psi. As a result of (what I believe is) using too high pressures, I have already blown one tyre. The second tyre blew off the rim (50psi) while the bike was on a stand! They also kick up too much crap onto the frame (lots of chipped paintwork) and 2.35 does not fit into my Thule roof racks.
Tubeless tyres are expensive
Brake squeak when dirt gets on the discs.
I don't know how to service hydraulic brakes.

Strengths:
Extremely solid design. This bike is tough. The lefty "fork" is one of the best forks I've tried. Very smooth and even feel to it and very sturdy feeling. The SRAM drivetrain is very smooth.
Weaknesses:
The single pivot design relies on SPV rear shock to damp pedaling motion. Can't say this is really a weakness since the design has alot of fans, but feeling of the bike is just a little bit stiff. Not entirely sure, but the shock boot/protector seems to necessary on this bike. Maybe Cannodale is just being more cautious than other manufacturers. Or maybe it is design issue and the placement of the inner (lower) cylinder that makes it necessary?
If I was in the market for an All Mountain bike I would choose this one over the Enduro simply because it feels so much stronger at the same weight. Also the single pivot design of the Prophet would require less maintenance (a bigger issue on bikes that made for abuse). I was never a fan of the lefty shock, but now having used one, I see that they are better than regular Q/R forks in many ways. Namely the compression feels much smoother and more stable than the squeezed air ballon feel of air shocks. The Fork I used was a Lefty Max with SPV. I was also previously a fan of the Shimano drivetrain (in particular the LX trigger shifters), but after using the SRAM X.7 shifters with X.9 rear derailleur, I am an istant convert. Shifting is super smooth and much quieter than any Shimano system I've tried. Reminds me of old school bikes that had shifters that just worked and kept working for years with almost no tune-ups. The bike is very nimble, and light for an All Mountain bike at ~30lbs. The tires on the '06 model also seem pretty light which I'm sure adds to the nimble feeling. If you are looking for a bike for XC plus some rough stuff this might be the bike for you. Bit pricey though, I got it on sale (normally $2,600). Still the value is there since the components are all strong and compare favorably to other bikes in this price range. If you forget that mountain bikes are in general rediculously expensive. But if you're considering getting this bike, I'm sure you realized that a while ago.

The handling is awesome and the suspension adjustability is great as well. I have played around quite a bit with both ends and they work in an outstanding way that is just so sweet. Climbs well, descends well, agile. This is a great trail, "all day" kind of ride. The factory settings are an OK starting point.

My dealer told me that some of the bikes that were shipped to B.C. and Alberta had similar problems. The lefty is amazing. Try it. Most people who diss it have not even tried it!

Climbing, descending, overall handling, SRAM drivetrain, tubeless tires, SPV front and rear
Weaknesses:
Heavy tires - swaped out for Pythons. Wide riser bar - swaped out for carbon flat bar.
Similar Products Used:
Whew, too many to list
Bike Setup:
Stock except for tires and bar/stem swap, and Speedplay Frogs of course.
Bottom Line:
This is the bike I've been waiting for. Climbs even better than a Scalpel IMO due to SPV front and rear, feels like a short travel bike on smoother trails, but eats up the big stuff when encountered. If you're looking for a barcolounger on wheels, look elsewhere. Plush is not how to describe this bike. But if you want an extremely efficient long travel bike that will handle anything you throw at it, look no further.

I wanted one bike that did it all... and this is it! It climbs really well, has great components and rides like hell. Forget those vague steering marshmallow bikes. The Prophet steers very well and is balanced. The suspension give the bike excellent balance and compliance. Lots of various setups are possible with so much adjustment. Brakes are great, tyres grip but are maybe a bit heavy but I prefer traction to weight. Even the saddle is comfortable! I prefer larger bikes so I went for the L size and its fine...
My Lefty fork died (why, I'm not sure - oil pouring from the SPV valve, probably just one of those things) and C-Dale and Bike Now fixed it in less than a week! That is great service! Thanks.

Strengths:
It's a Cannondale. Made in USA.
Very good selection of components for the bike. I actually enjoy the SRAMs over the Shimano that I have had for years. Once the shocks are set up with the SPV this bike rides very nicely. A different geometry than what I am used to with my old F600 and '04 Jekyll 800. It is like riding in a more upright position and a higher position. This bike handles, responds, steers, and stops very well. The Lefty forks are the best thing going. My Jekyll has one, as does this bike. Both are extremely responsive to the trail and ride. The Fox rear shock is very smooth. It adapts to riders based on weight and handles very well on a wide variety of trails.
Weaknesses:
As mentioned, the tires are not the best. Great traction, I have found, in dry conditions (not too muddy here) but at 2.35 inches it is like having a parachute slowing you down. I don't do downhilling, so I have a pair of 2.1 IRCs on the way that ought to make climbing more efficient. Other than that, I can't say that there is a bad thing about this bike.
Oh yeah, let's not forget about the $2,600 price tag.
Similar Products Used:
I tried a Trek Fuel while waiting for the time to buy the Prophet and found it to be much heavier, less responsive, and the forks (Rock Shox) led the bike instead of me.
I only own Cannondale. Not to be snobby, but I have just not been impressed with other bicycle manufacturers' quality control, ride quality, or value (considering they are almost all made in Taiwan) and charge roughly the same price.
I own a 2004 Cannondale Jekyll 800, and a 1999 Cannondale F600. Both are extremely fine bikes.
Bike Setup:
I bought the Prophet as a demo but it still rides like a champ. The Cannondale rep. had changed out the Avid Juicy 7s with Magura Marta SLs that they have on the Prophet 4000. Very nice brakeset.
Bottom Line:
This is the 5th Cannondale my wife and I have owned between us. They may cost more than some other bikes, but the quality is phenomenal.
I have never been disappointed with any Cannondale product and they are the only manufacturer that I recommend to anyone. The Prophet is no exception.
This bike rides extremely well and will take any trail or use that is thrown at it. I imagine any of the Prophet line will, but you just have to have the right componentry, and I couldn't tolerate dual control levers of the 800 model.
It took a bit of adjustment for me to get used to the riding stance from my old Jekyll, but I am happy with the ride. I can't think that you would be unimpressed with this bike - with the exception of the price.

Strengths:
Very simple and logical geometry. A single pivot point seems to make for low maintenance. The ride is excellent, very little bob on climbs and goes like a rocket in single track. It corners very well, and for an older B....d like me the ride is easy on the body. Specs are good, juicy 7's, and sram shifters, derailleur. You feel very confident on this bike. It is surprisingly responsive for a 13KG FS bike. The lefty is superperb, very stiff and super responsive.
Weaknesses:
The tyres - Too heavey I changed to lighter XC, made all the difference to the rolling resistance and feel of the bike.
A very well thought out design. It is the ultimate all round bike. I may not be good enough to use all full 150 mm of travel but it sure feels good to ride, and it does compensate for any mistakes.
The 1000 is better value than the 2000, the sram X-9 come std with X-7 shifters, seems a much better spec than the XTR/ XT set up on the 2000. I think the difference in weight between the two is 400 grams. The A$1250 price diffence for the Shimano gear and carbon lefty does not seem to be worth it.
To sumit up * Simple design - clever layout. Attention to detail like the cable routing to the rear derailleur. * The ride - You sit up quite high, I am 6' and bought the medium frame, the seat post is high but I like the feel of the smaller frame. It is very nimble in tight single track and easy to lift over logs etc. The clearance under the BB is good. It did take some time to get used to the feel of the bike ( ie the hieght and shorter top tube) but the geometry makes for a very responsive bike when required, and it is a very comfortable climbing position. Let it run on the open fire trails and it come into its own, the suspension absorbs impact when required, without feeling soft and mushy. * Suspension - the SPV front ( Lefty) and the rear manitou are superb. Very good climber. It eats rough and rocky climbs. * Price - A tad on the high side but in this case you get what you pay for. * Set Up- Credit to the guys at Spoken - I have not had to touch the bike since it left the shop in May. But I think it is also to do with the bikes design.
I highly recommend this bike for those wanting a good all rounder with a bit of attitude thrown in. It may be a big name manufacturer, but Cannodale have hit the mark with this bike.

Downhill handling is awesome, really it is much superior to Trek, Giant, Ellsworth or any other manufacturer. The climbing for a bike with this travel is excellent. Ultimately, I think the other manufacurers will copy the lefty when the patent runs out it is that much better.
Weaknesses:
Weight is always something that can be improved upon.
Similar Products Used:
Demoed or owned Cannondale, Trek, GT, Giant, Kona products
Bike Setup:
Only thing I have changed so far are the tires, with Continental Vertical Pro UST's run at 30psi at front and 35psi at the back. The Maxiss tires that came wth the bike I think are mismatched to the bike, they are really just for riding the ski lift!!They save 2lbs to bring the bike total weight down to 27.5lbs.
Bottom Line:
The Prophet 1000 is the better buy between the 1000 and 2000. The Shimano XTR brake gear rig that you get with the 2000 is a total joke. Having to flap around the brake levers to change gear is a farce, I think more of a marketing idea from the Shimano management than from rider feedback and improvement. Go on a long technical ride and see the tendonitous you will get in your forearms, either that or develop forearms like Popeye! What a flop, just watch them drop that idea in a hurry!!!!!!!! The Prophet 1000 is an excellent ride on the single track, maybe heavy for competition but for an all around bike it is the best.

They have added a waterbottle mount on this model on the downtube at the bottom bracket level. Not the best location but at least it has one now! Good for occassional use. I love this bike. Coming from my Jekyll, there is no bob!! I am much more confident with 140mm of suspension and the Lefty is awesome. The Juicy's just saved my life the other day. Haha. They have sooooo much power. I feel much more comfortable on this bike.
Weaknesses:
I must agree with everyone in here that the Maxxis HighRollers are a bit heavy. I mean they weigh in at 2 lb. each. I have had a problem with my hub and my swingarm came cocked from the factory but Cannondale was nice and quick enough to help out. No other weaknesses to address.

Basically stock except I put a Salsa Trials Bashring in place of my third ring. I am also putting a Chris King rear hub because the Fire Disc has given my problems. I also plan on putting a larger rotor up front, but for now I will just ride the HighRollers off of it and replace it with lighter tires.
Bottom Line:
This bike is %#$@ sweet. Its very nimble and my confidence level has climbed ever since I got this trail. I now longer have to worry about stuff. I can decend and be hard on my brakes and then two minutes later I can beat a hardtail up a hill. This bike makes me want to ride more just so I can be on it and have fun. I would suggest buying a Prophet to anyone who is looking for around 5 inches of travel, a lot of adjustability in the shocks, and room for customization (Even though the stock set up is super sweet with the Juicy 7's, Mavic tubeless rims, and the Lefty which has to be the coolest fork on the market). This bike is freaking amazing. It's incredibly light for all that you get. The SPV is really really nice, and it can be adjusted so many different ways that you can get it to feel however you wish. The Lefty max SPV is out of this world. It is so stiff, so light, and so smooth. It feels like a rigid bike in the climbs, and then glides down descents. After reading some reviews, everyone said that you could just point it down a hill, and it would take anything; you didn't really have to pick a good line. Well, it's true. On my first real descent, I just pointed it and let it go. In retrospect, it was pretty dumb to put that much trust in a bike I had just gotten, but it handled it like it was nothing. This bike has the best of both worlds; it is a pretty light and well balanced XC bike, and it is a kickass freeride bike too. Sram goes off, I've been a shimano xt man all my life, sorry shimano I have shifted to a better world with sram. Tyres seem heavy, may look to change them. I was sceptical about the lefty but it has amazed me, little or no flex yet supple for moderate drops (and 90 kilos of man). Single pivot seems simple but don't be fooled this is a strenth, no additional pivot points, stiff rear end and no bob, why go for 4 bar linkage. Do think about it buy one. In fact don't buy one because I wan't to pass someone up and down hills. Looses a chilly for being a bit pricey

With the Kenda tires and the SPV suspension I can climb standing or seated w/o spin, even on rocks and roots. There were 3 places I could never climb with my old bike, now they are almost easy. If you test ride one, point it at a curb and hit it without pulling up it will just roll over it. I am able to do more technical lines that I would never be able to do with my epic. This bike is by far the best bike I have ever ridden or owned. My wife is gonna get one soon. Buy one, nothing else even comes close. It really is nice to have such a great bike made here right in the states.

Strengths:
NO BOB! I used to own a Jekyll 800, and I couldn't get rid of pedal-bob. My lockout would tend to backout every few rides, and all the pogo'ing had me tired early on in rides. With the front and rear SPV on this bike, pedal-bob is a thing of the past. I love the SRAM components, although the dual thumb shifters take a few rides to get used to if you normally use Shimano shifters. The Fizik Plateau has to be one of the nicest saddles I've ever used, and I'm glad they carried it over from the Jekyll. Rims are nice but the tires may not work well depending on what type of riding you want to do. Overall, this bike makes a nice XC bike, even with the 5" of travel.
Weaknesses:
The Maxxis High Roller tires are a little heavy for the XC stuff that I mainly do. I swapped these out with some Panaracer Fire XC Pro tubeless, and I haven't looked back since.
Similar Products Used:
Cannondale Jekyll 800
Bike Setup:
Standard shock setups for my weight. I am currently using Panaracer Fire XC Pro tubeless tires instead of the Maxxis High Rollers that came included. I am using Stan's no tube for extra flat protection as well.
Bottom Line:
The Prophet is the best of both worlds. If you want to do more extreme riding, the 5 inches of travel should work just fine, but the bike can also be setup to be a competitive XC racer. The SRAM components are very nice, and the Avid Juicy disc brakes work as well as the Hayes HFX-9, plus they have the external adjuster. Nice rims and nice saddle as well. You may pay a little more for Cannondale (although you do get a lifetime frame warranty), but I think it's worth it to buy American, and it's a great bike!!

Bottom Line:
This is one great bike. I purchased a 2004 model Jekyll 1000 just a few months earlier and although I still love it, I would give the nod to the Prophet. It does what I want it to do more than any other bike I've ever been on. Great handling with good climbing ability and excellent downhill ability. The only problem I've had is with the Avid juicy brakes. LBS already changed the rear rotor once but I've continued to experience some problems, not with stopping but just excess squealing and a rough feeling applying the rear brake. I changed out the saddle for a WTB Laser V (Big improvement) and the Maxxis 2.35 tires (WAY TOO SLOW) for Hutchinson Python 2.0 (Very FAST). I would recommend this bike to anyone who is looking for a bike that can do just about anything. It is truly all-mountain.

Front and Rear SPV Suspension Technology with 5 1/2 travel. Very well balanced. Adjustable Head Angle between 67.5 and 69 degrees, Flawless breaking with the Juicy Seven's. 32 spoke 819 wheel set (very strong). Hand Made in the USA!!!!
Weaknesses:
Nothing to report at this time.

Bottom Line:
I've had this bike 3 weeks now and have put 150 miles of Denver, CO Front Range trails on it.
This bike is awesome, hands down!!! I have the bike setup in the 67.5 degree head angle which allows my weight to be further back for steep descents and rocky terrain. The suspension setup information provided with the bike is right on with the exception of adjusting the rebound to your particular riding style and terrain. What I'm most surprised about is the SPV front and rear suspension. It truly allows this bike to pedal extremely well, hardly any feedback depending on how much pressure you run in the SPV chamber. The more pressure the less feedback but you will lose some of your small bump sensitivity. The bike climbs awesome. Even in the 67.5 degree geometry the front wheel feels light but climbs over every thing you can power and balance over. I'm very impressed with the balance of this bike. There is a huge difference between the Prophet and my Specialized FSR S-Works, there is no competition, the Prophet feels very stable, and very balanced under both descent and climbing conditions. This bike blows away the S-Works, PERIOD!!! The bike weighed 30.4 lbs stock but changing the 2.35 Maxxis High Rollers out for Continental Explorers w/Stan's dropped the weight by 2 lbs even to a respectable 28.4 lbs. Depending on the type of riding I can switch between the Conti's and Maxxis tires fairly easily since it comes with a tubeless wheel set.
Plain and simple, this bike is the most awesome ride I've ever owned. I'm cleaning technical areas with ease now without having to rely on the perfection of line selection. You point and go. Drops, rocks, steep descents, technical climbs, you name it, this bike does it better in an all Period!
Last word, the biggest shock to me has been the stability on fast descents. I have yet to experience the full potential in this area. I'm hitting speeds that rival over anything I ever was able to do on my S-Works.
With still more miles to ride on a 1st year production model time will only tell but at this point, my opinion is...the Cannondale folks got it right!!!!
