from San Francisco, CA USA Date Reviewed: January 5, 2009 | | Favorite Trail: | Every Single Track in Marin County | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Purchased At: | Rock Lobster | | Strengths: | Excellent handling trail bike, No noticeable difference in handling from a 26". Larger tires roll nicely over fire road and single track. Aestically the bike looks very balanced. | | Weaknesses: | Well at least for my style of riding I have found none so far. It rides as I expected. | | Similar Products Used: | 1997 Salsa Ala Carte Single Speed, 1996 Salsa La Cruz Cyclo Cross, 1994 Yo Eddy | | Bike Setup: | I combined a bit of old school with new technology. Frame Rock Lobster custom non suspension corrected with rigid fork., Brakes Magura marta. Shifters, Paul Thumbie shifter pods with Dura Ace 9 speed, XT mid cage rear deraileur and Dura Ace front, Rear casette Xt 11-34, Cranks White Industries VBC Mountain 46-34, Pedals Time XS, King Headset, Salsa Steel stem, Race Face Low riser bars, Thompson Post, Seat Selle Flite NOS. Wheel set Hadley IS Hubs on DT competition spokes laced on Stans 650B rims with Hadley Skewers. Running tubes in the Stans. | | Bottom Line: | For me the bike is beautiful. I am 5'-10" so a 29er would look funny. Big tires, small frame. A bike should look balanced regardless of ride quality. It handles exceptional as well. I like trail bikes with a laid back handling. Kept the same geometry as my 97 Salsa Single Speed frame. This set up is not for everyone. For one I never run suspension on any of my bikes. I like the mix of old school and new technology on this. A little different flavor. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
