Strengths:Nice handling, fairly light weight. Good looks with red accents. CVA suspension works extremely well. Climbs well. Niner customer service - responsive and customer focused.
Weaknesses:Pretty flexy rear end - I weigh 185.
Broke rear triangle after 200 miles.
Not a downhill flier - it is stiff and can feel sketchy at high speeds. Take this comment for what it's meant to be - a 3" bike will not feel like a 5" bike downhill. Jet is fast - it is just that, in a world of 4-5" race-ready bikes - the Jet feels a bit like a throwback to short travel bikes. It's not good or bad - that's just how it felt to me.

Bike Setup:XT drivetrain

Race Face Next SL bar - Ergon grips
WTB Exiwolf front and Schwalbe RR 2.2 rear.
Fox F29 100mm
Bottom Line:This is a good bike - perhaps great. What held me at 3 chilis was the broken rear end at 200 miles and the notable flex in the rear end.
The bike excels in climbing both gravel roads and technical singletrack. The CVA works well and rarely needs the RP23 engaged. Climbing traction is predictable and the 29" wheels seem to float over rocks and roots. The front end stays planted - even with 4" of front travel - yet the front tire is easy to hoist over obstacles.
Point it downhill and it performs admirably for a 3" race rig. It is not a 'plus' ride - but it not supposed to be. The faster I go, the more I wish I had more travel. The bike is sable but not speed inspiring on long descents beyond 20'ish mph. I think the rear end flex plays in to this feeling of 'wandering' through corners. Keep the speed in the mid teens and she rails.
The bike handles very well through tight switchbacks - both up and downhill. Once I dialed in entry and exit lines I never felt that '29er slow cornering' that folks talk about. The bike never feels 'heavy' to maneuver as some say 29ers can. I can tell that it is stable at speed due to the bigger hoops. It wants to stay upright.
At $1749 it s a great value compared to other boutique and non-boutique 29er FS bikes.
Construction quality is somewhat lacking. This bike is certainly not comprised of beautiful welds. You won't find yourself wanting to take pictures of the tube joints to post online. Braze-on guides for cables look like my kids did them in shop class. However - once a little dirt gets on the bike - I really don't care. As long as the welds hold I am willing to give a little to save a little. In comparison, a Pivot Mach 429 has cleaner construction - but costs $500 more.
Overall, I strongly recommend this bike for XC and endurance racers/riders who live around terrain that does not decidedly point downhill. If you weigh much more than 185 - this might not be your bike - it will just get too flexy in the rear to be comfortable at speed.
Beware - it is fast and fun - bt like all 'race' bikes - it is not for everyone.
I like mine a lot and for where I ride (Minneapolis area) it is a great bike.
More Chili's when Niner reduces flex and makes rear ends/frames that don't break at 200 miles.

Price Paid: $4500.00
Strengths:Incredibly stable platform. Very predictable. Good geometry, handles well in all conditions.
Weaknesses:Well, as always, could be lighter!
Similar Products Used:Mooto-X 29er hardtail, GT Marathon Pro FS 26er.
Bike Setup:Full XTR setup, King hubs, ATAC pedal, FOX F-29 100 RLC
Bottom Line:Essentially I bought this bike because I love the stable feeling of a 29er but needed FS for my aging back-Oww. The Mooto-x is a great bike, but I am just too many miles down the road for it. So I have ridden this bike on twisty, technical singletrack, gnarly downhill, and the Leadville 100. Suffice it to say that I am impressed. It is wicked fast and so predictable going downhill. A real point and shoot experience. Honestly, I've never ridden a more stable bike. Where this bike really shines though is in the handling. My GT is more like a squishy fun-buggy, the hardtail is awesome except it rattles my fillings. I was quite surprised to find this baby carving up my local singletrack with ease. Even on what I consider very technical trails this bike shines. The geometry is spot on. Every bit as quick as a 26er. It climbs well and I regularly clean spots I cannot clean with a 26 bike.

Setup is a bit of a challenge. Once I set the front fork sag, the rear was tricky to get right. Not a lot of guidance on the Niner website either. Setting it to sag only used about 65% of the travel on the rear. Finally tried the 65% of body weight method also mentioned on the website. This got me to 85% of the travel. Adjusted it down from there, now it rides like a 3.5 inch travel bike should. (I am 168 in riding gear and run 105 psi in the rear and 70 in the front, with tubeless setup of 32 rear and 30 front). Overall, this bike rocks, like all 29ers, heavier than its counterparts but the best I've ever ridden so far. All bikes are too high priced so 4 for value but 5 for overall because it is just so much fun.

Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Geometry, suspension design and performance
Weaknesses:Tough one- If I had the best of all possibilities, I'd make it lighter; maybe a carbon version in an ideal future.
Similar Products Used:Ibis Mojo, Santa cruz Blur, Custom Ti
Bike Setup:1x9 with Middleburns, Dave's Speed Dream 355's (1600 grams and bulletproof) Fox fork.
Bottom Line:The bike is very comfortable and fast; it will enable you to push harder in the all manner of singletrack without punishing your body. I originally had the 08, was frustrated by the recall and subsequent delay, sold it and went with Quiring Ti (best hardtail I've ridden)and came back to the new version in 09'. Coming off of a custom Ti frame, I am very happy to be back to the Jet. It honestly is plush without penalty. I gained 3 pounds on my bike but am faster and happier. The CVA suspension is efficient; the only noticeable bob is when I stand and hammer. I do feel the weight just a bit on long climbs, but the flow and momentum make up for it with increased speed overall. While I can understand some here being upset with delivery delays and the recall issues, (been there) I feel the performance of the frame itself, assuming that its reliability will now stand, is the only fair baseline for review. With that in mind, I give it a solid 5 stars.

Favorite Trail:Black Forest at the moment
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1750.00
Purchased At:Niner
Strengths:This bike climbed well, descended well, and was very fast on the flats. It was a great marathon bike and would have been better if it were lighter, but I didn't want to spend a ton more money. Handling was no problem, the geometry just felt great to me. I made some switch backs that even my 26inch buddies couldn't make. The weight was even decent for a 29er fully without spending too much.
Weaknesses:The downside....

I purchased the bike as soon as it was released and it took longer to get then was originally promised. Then after waiting 6 months for the bike and as I was going to build it up, the swing arms were recalled. After getting the swing arms in September the bike was finally built after 9 long months and a shot racing season. The worst part though was that the new swing arms and old links creaked bad. I was constantly taking the arms off trying to figure out the problem and it was never resolved. Finally, and thank god, the bike was stolen in Slovenia this past June which ruined our vacation and bummed me out, but in the end I got a much better bike, a Turner.
Similar Products Used:Heckler, Red Line SS, Haro Mary SS
Bike Setup:X9 Drive Train, XT Crank Set, WTB Laser V seat, Thompson Post, Racing Ralphs, King hubs, Salsa Delgado Rims, King Head Set, Marta Brakes
Bottom Line:Well I think my actions speak for themselves. Once the bike was stolen, did I replace it with another one.....NO WAY. On that note, I think Niner has fixed this problem and the new swing arms work just fine. If I kept the bike I was going to send it back to Niner this winter to have surgery and I'm sure they would have taken care of it. In the end I was always up in the air, Turner or Niner, this time I settled on a Turner. I guess it comes down to quality, do your research and pay more for bikes still made in the USA. You'll be plenty happy you did for years to come and you won't miss a riding season watching a new frame gather dust.

There were some early problems with the rear traingle but they revised it for '09 and the bike is well worth it. It is unbelievable how well this bike climbs. Purchased At:LBS (ERIK'S)
Strengths:Ultra fast! I'm finding myself using less break and much more control than I ever have. Great climber and super snappy. It took a little getting use to but once everything is dialed this thing moves. Pro Pedal is solid. Geometry is racer feel, but a bit more friendly.
Weaknesses:Creak. There has been a few post that I have witnessed talking about the issue, but with a little help from the guys at the LBS they dialed in the noise completely. The design does not use a complete weld and at the pivot point section you have to put some teflon in between seat tube and what I call the CVA label joint area. Keep it clean and you will not hear the creak. This has nothing to do with performance at all. Its a minor flaw the apparently is in some high end rides.

Bottom Line:Ultimate ride. I love this bike, built this from the ground up with some help from the LBS. It does take a bit of getting use to coming from a 26r, but the climbing is way better than expected, the cornering on tight single track is top notch. Its true, once this bike gets moving, its moving.

Strengths:I have owned other small 29er bikes that were not well designed for short riders but this bike is great geometry. The frame quality is terrific with many small touches to reflect great design. I have a 100mm Fox F29 fork and the travel and steering are plenty quick and smooth. The 3.1" travel in the rear worried me the most when I was deciding to buy or not. No worries for my riding style which is no drops or jumps; just plenty of rough ground, roots, rocks and fast riding.
Weaknesses:Paint is not very durable and the cable burn requires lots of 3M clear protector
Bike Setup:Full XTR drive train, Formula Oro 24k brakes with R1 rotors, Stans Arch rims on Hope 2 hubs. e.thirteen bashguard, Ritchey WCS seatpost, handlebars, stem, Crank Brothers Eggbeater SL pedals, Fox F29 fork, Stella Italia gel seat
Bottom Line:Lowered my fastest time on a 8 mile trail with significant climbs by 10 minutes for a new PBR on my second ride of the season. Handled riding Pisgah just great. I have no lower back pain riding this bike which is the first bike I can say that about after many different bikes and sizes. Love the bike, love the company.

Similar Products Used:Fisher HiFi, Stumpy FSR
Bike Setup:XO Shifter/RD, XTR Crank/FD, Reba Team MaxleLite, Fox RP23, I9 Wheels, Elixir CR 185/160
Bottom Line:I waited a long time to purchase this bike due to the complaints about the rear triangle and rockers. In March of '09 I pulled the trigger and had the LBS order me up the frame.

That being said, I'm so incredible glad I waited. It gave me more time to stash away some dough to do the bike up with a build that I wouldn't have any desire to change!

It climbs better than any bike I have ever owned. Very, very fast! Very comfortable! Quick steering, the 100mm Reba has made this the ultimate in comfort and handling. It looks just as great as it performs! I couldn't be happier with what was put together! I can't stop smiling every time I ride it, or pass it in my office on the way to go to work. The bike does the most important thing for me, and that's make me happy.

Climbing anything, bombing a hill, tree ruts, drops, easy riding... All of it is enjoyable on the saddle. The bike makes it hard to have to go back to the truck and head home.

It's performance is hands down the best XC 29er in the game. It would be impossible to part ways with this bike.

5 chilis for both ratings on the fact that the frame isn't overpriced and it exceeds the expectations you would have for any bicycle.

P.S. Niners customer service is a step above the rest.

Bottom Line:Well were do I start,Hands down the fastest bike I have ridden ( Every were )I took a long time to make up my mind if I should go to a 29er & now i'm just trying hard not to think about the time I wasted not being on 1.I still can't beleave how this bike climbs,Going up in wheel size & there for gearing on the steep tricky climbs I thought I would spend much more time in the small chain ring than what I did on my 08 Anthem but am some what supprised that I spend Less time in the small chain ring. The speed in the fast flowing ruff single track is nothing short of stunning. My thoughts were that with 29 inch wheels & 80mm travel that it would work more like a 120mm travel & I guess at the same speed that would be the case, But you don't just go the same speed so you will need to think of this when buying your bike ( not a problem for me as the plan was alwas to get a 09 RIP9 as well ).I can't say enough good things about this bike it should have been called a Rocket 9.It took about half way through my first ride before I started riding it in a way that made it much faster than my 26er's but once I got a handle on it boy did it open my eyes to just how hard you could push it through the corners,A compleat rethink ( I'm not looking forward to finding the limit ) Bottom line this is a race bike that can handle the ruff so if you are after a racer but do other riding this is the bike for you. If you are looking for a play bike go for the RIP9 nine because these big wheels just make you want to try things you never thought you would do & at this sort of money you are better to have a bike you grow into than a bike you grow out of.

It does what my hardtail Fisher couldn't. Decending is a point and shoot rail fest. This bike just does what I wan't. Not just some of the time, not just when it feels like it. This thing has dinner on the table when I come home. On demand handling, climbing, and decending. Just pedal.

P.S. After riding with an 80mm reba the 100mm feels like a dream and doesn't slow the handling down.

Strengths:For a 29'er this bike is fast and nimble. Pro-pedal works great. Feels like a hardtail until you hit something. Very stable at high speed. Light for 29"er full suspension. My build was just over 26 pounds. Climbs great.
Weaknesses:As of this post, I owned the bike for less than one week. On my third ride, the rear triangle cracked at the weld just under the top pivot on the rear triangle. This is a 2009 with the "fix". So, reliability is an issue and I am not so sure the frame problems have been solved. Also the warranty is not to good, only 2 years. Most of the big guys guarantee the frame for life.
Similar Products Used:Mostly ride a 29'er single speed. Raced a Gary Fisher Superfly last year. These are both hardtails. I wanted a full suspension 29'er that was designed for racing.

Bottom Line:Bottom line is I was riding a high because this bike was so good, then I was tremendously disappointed when the frame cracked, all in a period of 3 days. Niner has been great so far. My new frame is on its way. The bike is so good that I am willing to give it another shot and assume the cracked frame was a fluke. According to Niner, this is the first call they received on a failure of the 2009 frames. To me that is good news. If you are looking for a race ready full suspension 29'er, this is a great choice, assuming the reliability issues go away.

Strengths:Frame black ano finish looks great, easy cable routing, nice welds. Bottom bracket and head tube are faced. Bike handles great and climbs with no suspension bob.

Bottom Line:I waited for Niner to get through their rocker problems and then caught this frame on a 2008 closeout for a great price. Hopefully all the frame issues are worked out because this bike really delivers. I have only ridden the bike about 50 miles, so far the bike is as advertised and I am very pleased. I started out with too little sag in the rear shock and the bike virtually rode like a hardtail, dropped the air pressure in the rear about 20 lbs before I noticed the bike riding like a full suspension. Once I got it dialed in I was amazed. Most of the time I felt like I was on my 29er hardtail until I needed suspension and then it was there. The ride is firm, not plush. I ride a single speed hardtail most of the time but wanted a 29er geared bike for all the trails that are not single speed friendly for me. The way this bike rides is confidence inspiring. Right from the start I felt like I had been riding the bike for years, it handles great and really does climb like a hardtail. The best of both worlds in my opinion, quick and agile like a hardtail with enough suspension to smooth out the rough stuff.

Strengths:I love the handling so far. This is my first 29'er and the rolling effect is very noticeable. It's not a myth...

The bike feels very nimble. It took me a couple rides to get it set up the right way which is normal, but it's obvious how efficient it is. It isn't an energy sucker. I can really carve in neutral grade and downhill situations. I'm not spinning out during climbs where I normally would a little with my previous bike (Giant Anthem 1). The travel is definitely sufficient for me. I'm an aggressive XC rider that likes to get some air and I'm not bottoming out the rear.
Weaknesses:I'm still playing with a couple things on the set up but I have had the front lift up a little in very difficult climbing situations, mostly on tough switch backs. I've heard this is more common with 29'ers in general, so it is hard for me to say if it's a Jet 9 issue or a 29'er issue. Regardless, it's not enough to be a problem yet.

Bottom Line:I really like this bike...a lot. I am an aggressive XC/trail rider. When it comes down to it, I'd rather go fast then have the ability to do 3 ft. drops one time a month, but I do like to get air when the trail warrants it (i.e. I don't want to slow down b/c there is a hump in the trail). I was concerned about sacrificing some speed going to this bike from my Giant Anthem 1...it's an amazing bike and I don't think I'm going to sell it. Someone else posting a review on this site made the same transition. Buying the Jet 9 came down to a couple things...I wanted a 29'er, I like full suspension, and I don't want an energy sucker with big travel for no reason. The guys at Colorado Cyclist were amazing building this bike out for me (Thanks Andy!). They have a great reputation for wheel building and they didn't let me down. The C. King hubs and DT Swiss rims are choice and their build was dead on. They are running totally true with no pinging after 3 hard rides. I need to ride this bike more before I can sharp shoot all the pro's and con's but so far it's really exceeded my expectations.

Strengths:Tied as best ride with one of the seven other bikes I've owned.
Weaknesses:Niner support. I am very disappointed with Niner's communication. The frame was recalled due to linkage issues and they were unable or unwilling to provide some sort of resolution for the short term. I spent six weeks without a bike. When I contacted them directly it took three emails to get a response. Not only did I want an answer regarding my BRAND NEW bikes recall I was concerned that I may have other issues. The shop employee who owned a Jet had the frame and linkage brake as well. They assured me that I wouldn't have any further problems with my frame. Last month I took mike bike into the shop because I thought my bottom bracket was loose and squeaking. It was worse. The frame was cracked at one of the welds. Another two weeks off the bike. Niner didn't send a letter saying sorry, FU, or anything! Come on guys. This is my second frame from you! I dropped 3/4 of a months wages and more than a house payment on this frame! Really disappointing. I'll buy something from the Big S next time. It's tried and true.

Bottom Line:Excellent race bike, probably needs a light build so it's tough to do on a budget, but if you go all out you'll have a really competitive bike. My bike is currently about 29 pounds with pedals on it, so I'd like to take it down a couple of pounds by going lighter on the cranks, hubs, and pedals. I think it climbs really well, I don't notice the rear suspension active on climbs at all, unless it's a rough climb in which cases it's an advantage. I rode it on a bumpy, loose, sketchy course with 3000 feet of climb at Xterra Maui this October, and it felt great. I've ridden it on some cross country training/fun rides, and the bike feels amazing, you feel really confident and solid on the bike from the first ride. I am currently running 80mm of travel in the front, and I think I'm going to give 100mm of travel a try. Should be a great all around, cross country and endurance racing bike.

Strengths:This bike feels so freaking fast and stable all at the same time. I am a 5'4" female rider who is very agressive on the trail. This thing climbs like a monster! I haven't spun out on any climbs thus far. It almost feels as though the bike propells you up the hill and you are nearly cresting before feeling the need to reach down deep and dig. On many corners that I've previously had to weight the outside pedal and pray to God that I don't slide out can now be almost pedaled right through. It is amazing. It clears log piles like they are little pebbles. I don't feel any of the awkward steering that they same a smaller rider might experience. I feel more at home and at one with this bike than I did with my 26" Giant Anthem 1 that I rode the previous 2 years.
Weaknesses:I can complain about nothing! I love this bike!
Similar Products Used:This is my first 29'er because I was concerned that it may feel sluggish and slow me down...nothing could be further from the truth with the Jet 9!
Bike Setup:Full build from the guys at Niner...It came with Sram X.O shifters, Mavic Cross Max Sl wheels, Fox front fork/shocks, etc.
Bottom Line:I thought my Giant Anthem 1 was sweet and fast but it has nothing on the Jet 9! I love this bike! It handles great (even for a smaller framed rider) and is very responsive. The very first corner felt awkward but after that it was awesome! It tears through and over EVERYTHING! I was initially concerned that it would be harder to propell and thus slow me down but nothing could be further from the truth!

Bottom Line:First of all I would like to thank Kris, Eric, and Andy at Biowheels in Asheville, NC for all of their help and getting the bike set up for me. The bike far exceeds my expectations! If you are shopping for a Niner, check them out!
www.biowheels.com

I would describe myself as an aggressive cross country/trail rider who also likes to race a few times a year. (usually endurance events) Was looking for a bike that could serve as my trail bike but not hold me back when I chose to race the bike as well. The Jet is the ticket with the adjustable U turn fork. At 100mm travel, it feels more like a trail bike, wind it down for more of a race feel if you want.

I would describe the suspension as always firm, but never, never harsh. The beginning of the travel seems firm, but it does not seem to ramp up at all through the travel: The faster you go and the rougher it gets, it still seems have enough travel between the big wheels and 3'suspension. This took a little getting used to, but love it because I have not felt beat up after any rides, can sit down and pedal through rough sections, but feel great power transfer at all times, and good control in any situation.

Ride: Awesome! This is hard to put in words, but the bike is very nimble, but surprisingly stable all at the same time.(Almost doesn't make sense when you say it out loud) Totally kills singletrack and tech sections. Funny it is much more nimble and great downhill as well compared to my previous 4' travel Ellsworth.

Climbs great, although I am still learning the proper balance on very steep sections with the larger wheels, again the u-turn reba really helps here.

And finally, durability and finish (anodized black) seem great thus far. This bike obviously has the new rockers on it.

Check out the Jet, you won't be disappointed!

Bottom Line:Depends on Ninner – my rear suspension link just snapped and I am only 160. Here is what is really frustrating - I was setting up to race the Colorado Trail Race (www.climbingdreams.net) in July. Hard to withhold judgment… It WAS the best bike I ever had and I spent serious attention (carbon DT Swiss front shock, carbon FSA cranks, carbon everywhere else – XTR full – dt wheels/hubs, etc…just over 25 pounds) serious detail to make this the racing machine, which it was and performed amazing until now. I even sold my old bike to help pay for this – now I am empty handed. To think IF I made it along the whole Colorado trail on a Ninner, let alone a 2x9, regardless of my time (record is 5 days) – would have been the first! I was hoping to be proud and help ninner with the publicity, etc…will they have this fixed within the next 3 weeks? A real disappointment right at the height of racing season. I give them 1 maybe 2 weeks for response. Dam this ucks!

If they fix it then I'll redo my rating for them, if they don't I'll take it down to lowest. An opportunity or a loss Ninner?

I weigh 180 and have only ridden it so far on a smoother beginner trail. What is frustrating is that when I called Niner June 4th they said they had a person in Taiwan investigating quality control and were not willing to reissue a replacement yet because of liability concerns. I was hoping this was a isolated incident but there must be more to it.

I otherwise loved the bike and hope that Niner quickly addresses the situation as they are usually good about doing. I will post again on the forums 29er site once I here something. The Overall rating would have been and will be a 5 if they fix the problem.

Strengths:VERY smooth, extraordinarily stable, and amazingly agile. Not what you'd expect from a 29" fully sprung.
Weaknesses:Heavier than a hardtail, but that's it.

Bike Setup:Large Jet9, Salsa Pro Moto bar (nice and wide), 100mm Syncros stem, 203mm ft/185mm rr Juicy Three's (soon to be Stroker trails), Hope headset, Fox F29 100, SRAM X9/X0, Stylo 2x9 cranks (24/36) C29ssmax wheels, Kenda Nevegals tubeless with Stans.
Bottom Line:I'm the everyman, not a featherweight hammerhead racer or DH rocket. I love everything from smooth to rough trails because I ride to have fun.

First, the bad. (If you're a strong climber, disregard this paragraph, hehe)... I'm not a great climber, and with this bike there are two distinct things working against me besides the heavy Kendas. Firstly, the big wheels. Larger diameter rollout means ~11% more distance per revolution. If you intend to maintain a cadence, you'll have to move quicker (and thus use more energy). Secondly, the double-ring crankset I'm using has a 24t granny. This stacks on another 9% output per crank revolution compared to a 22t. Together this means I have to climb 20% faster to maintain a comfortable cadence. In other words, when I'm climbing in the granny gear, it covers 20% more distance per crank revolution than a typical 26" setup. Since I can't just "go faster" on the climbs, I'm hoping the extra physical effort results in improved climbing potential.

None of this means the bike is a poor climber, just me and my components aren't ideal for upward trails. The larger wheels really do make the climbs technically easier, they just take a bit more effort to push, that's all.

Now the good. The Jet9 is a transparent machine, it just does everything right so you can focus on the ride. Its handling is telepathic, it tracks exactly where you want without any hesitation. Niner has nailed 29" geometry because its nimble without a hint of awkwardness, and its stable and extremely fast on the descents. The frame is stiff, responsive, and I can't detect any slop or unwanted movement in the linkages. The RP23 shock performs very well, and the Pro Pedal definitely firms up the rear end. Leaving the shock fully active while climbing over technical rocks and other garbage does help provide additional grip and can prevent the rear wheel from getting hung up, so I only flip the lever "on" for long smooth climbs.

The 29" wheels used with tubeless tires will allow you to power over technical climbs with authority. You don't have to finesse and snake through a carefully chosen line as you would with 26" wheels. They roll over obstacles so easily, and this quality is enhanced by the Jet9's geometry so tracking over rough stuff becomes very predictable. 3" of cushion is just enough to smooth the trail nicely, but combined with big wheels feels like 4" so it has no problem flying through rough stuff.

This bike has changed my attitude on riding. Everything is more fun now. Yeah the climbs require more energy than I'm used to, but I can always try lighter tires and a smaller granny. None of the "bad" things mentioned above really carry any weight when evaluating this frame. Much of it is due to my components and physical abilities. I give 5 flaming chilis because this is by far the best bike I've ridden on the trail in many years. I just can't wipe the smile off my face. (:

Active suspension and amazing handling are the characteristics that come to mind. This bike has a better turn radius than my EMD. The RP23 and Fox F29 are superior products to anything else on the market. I ran the Reba on my EMD and I was never happy with the fork.

Bottom Line:I own a medium anodized black frame. The "JET" name is really appropriate to this bike. It makes obsolete the assertion that 29er are slower. CVA suspension seems to work better on the JET than on the RIP. There is no pedal bob, no brake jack, still fully active, laterally stiff and propedal becomes useless. The shock is somewhat plush and flatten most bumps, just enough so that the bike doesn't beat you (that is the purpose of a 3 inches suspension, isn't it ?) but it is also firm enough to react instantly when you unleash the power. It is so snappy, almost like a HT when you sprint and you forget you ride a FS. While you lift the bike it doesnt' feel super light but when you ride it, oh man !, it is amazingly flickable. This characteristic makes it a better climber than the RIP on steep and technicals hills where you need quick accelerations to clear obstacles. It climbs like a scared cat chased by a doberman mob. The RIP felt more sluggish, slow to accelerate on flat terrain and uphill. Moreover, it is not flexy at all because the rockers are big and thick and nice. The JET geometry provides a quick steering. The short wheelbase is much better.

JET and RIP cannot be easily compared. It’s like a Tank vs a Light Armour Vehicle (LAV). Both are super strong when used properly because they are not built for the same purpose.

Anyway these are only words. The best and only way to understand what I’m saying is to get on the bike and ride it. It’s like trying to explain why 29er is better than 26er to someone who never tried one.

I’m a XC finesse rider, I enjoy going full throttle from point A to B and do small jumps I see along the way. I will participates in some races. I don’t really enjoy DH. When I see a hill, I wonder how fast I can go up but I like to go fast down the hill too. I don’t like to be beaten by my bike (no more HT) but I want a snappy bike, not necessarily a plush bike. If you are this type of rider too, the light and strong three inches travel JET may suits you perfectly.

Get the JET if pure speed is what you enjoy or are going to race. NEVERMIND the weight difference because it is really a very small "weakness" compare to the geometry, stiffness and CVA suspension qualities. I must acknowledge I was very sceptic about the JET when it was released but now that I’ve ridden it, the only one word I can use to describe it is... FANTASTIC plus 5 blazing chilis.
