Strengths:    Ride. Design. Welds. Dropouts. Cost. Schedule. Sherwood. Teresa.

Weaknesses:    None.

Bottom Line:
I hadn't ridden an aluminum hardtail for years, but decided that if anyone could do it right, Sherwood could. He did. The first ride was convincing and I was stunned at the responsiveness of the bottom bracket under power. I haven't had a bike that translates power as efficiently as this one. Generally, I ride titanium frames because they provide more comfort with less weight. The Comandante feels like it's tuned to "sport" mode with a slightly less frame dampening, comparable weight and a lot more "go". Sherwood has done an excellent job optimizing this frame design - regardless of material.

The bike is set up as a SS (dropouts work great), with CK, Hive, Enve, Formula, etc. and Sherwood added a Zeus top tube. It's a 22" (XL?) and weighs just over 22#.

I've had a few frames/bikes built and worked with some great people with a passion for bikes. Sherwood and Teresa are at the top of this list.

I was worried about it being too harsh (my first aluminum frame), but its not. I love the matte ... Read More »

Looking to pick up a used El Comandante Ultimate

How do they ride? For comparison, I've owned in the past, a 2006 GF Rig, 2008 Vassago Jabberwocky, and now a 2011 Canfield Nimble 9... Wanting to get back to a more "normal" 29r SS... I'm currently at 220 (and falling)... This would be a 2012 frame in flat black... The price is too good to pass ... Read More »

Custom El Comandante Ultimate

Had posted this over in the 29er forum but realized it really belonged over here: For nearly a decade I have been a dedicated single speeder and have had all types but a lot of Cannondale's and Niners. Last August I decided to a take a little hiatus and ride geared and full suspension for a bit. ... Read More »
