from san francisco Date Reviewed: July 30, 2011 Strengths: this thing climbs like a frog jumps out of a dynamite pond. the steel frame is well, a steel frame. very nice on buff singletrack. the fact that the stock rhyno lite rims are eyeletted did not escape me, either. nice looking paint and low key graphics round out an attractive package. Weaknesses: chain tensioning system is not so great, stock vee brakes and levers feel cheap. the stock headset requires regular attention. stock kenda tires don't seem to have a lot of grip on the edges when pushed hard through loose dirt or sand. from Palo Alto Date Reviewed: February 13, 2011 Strengths: Geometry is spot on excepting a little toe overlap... the nature of the 29er beast. Fast uphill and on the flat. Good beginner 29er. Turns phenomenally, railing turns which made my 26er friends nearly go over the high-side. Light. Weaknesses: An atrocity to ride downhill or over rocks... horribly un-compliant. Transfers every pebble into an unbearable jolt through your joints. Choose the line of least resistance. Depending on what you want to do, this bike can be built into a fully geared 29er hardtail(cable braze-ons are already on the frame) or keep it a single speed and add some drop bars,cane creek drop v levers and cross tires for a single speed crosser. I've added a 22 tooth cog on the flip-flop hub to have some more climbing power. All I have to do is flip the wheel for either a 20 tooth or 22 tooth depending on the terrain. Despite the great value of picking this bike up on sale, it fits great. It was a pleasure to ride right off the showroom. I highly recommend it.
