Product Description

The Zinn Megabike is the quintessential cross-country full suspension mountain bike for tall riders. Specifically designed for Zinn extra long custom cranks proportional to extra-long legs, its low weight, stiffness and Fox RP23 pedal-platform shock along with extra crank leverage make this Zinn bike a climbing machine. Three inches of plush rear travel combined with the unparalleled lateral stiffness of our huge Concentrak main pivot centered about the bottom bracket make for precise tracking on the most serpentine singletrack. The Megabike handles technical terrain almost like an all mountain bike due to it’s stiff frame, smooth suspension, and wide stable platform made possible by the long cranks. When you start climbing, you know you are on a cross country racing bike. The 29-inch wheels are much more proportional for tall riders and roll smooth and fast over rough terrain. The taller wheels combined with our long head tubes allow us to get the handlebars high enough for anyone.
  • XC and Megabike models are lightweight cross-country racing frames with 3” travel. XC has 26-inch wheels and comes in smaller sizes; Megabike has 29-inch wheels and only comes in the biggest sizes.
  • Frame includes rear shock (usually Fox Float RP3 ProPedal).
  • On XC and Megabike specs, the first listed head and seat angles are with a 100mm-travel fork, while the second (steeper) head and seat angles are with an 80mm-travel fork.
  • Bottom bracket heights are measured with a 100mm fork installed; they will be about 8-9mm lower with an 80mm fork, depending on frame size.
  • Top tube is measured horizontally (the effective top tube length), even though the top tube is both sloping and curved. (The actual center-to-center length of an upward-sloping top tube is less than its effective horizontal top tube length.)
  • XC’s and Megabike's leverage ratio is 2 to 1
  • Vertical rear wheel path
  • Huge pivot centered at bottom bracket (uses BB shell as its shaft). Long-lasting, easily lubricated with a grease gun via grease fitting under BB shell housing.
  • No chain kickback due to pivot location centered at bottom bracket.
  • Sculpted Zinn monocoque down tube provides unprecedented head tube support.

Strengths:    Strong, light, the swingarm pivots at b.b. - BUILT FOR BIG RIDER!

Bottom Line:
Based on my size and what i'd read about 29ers - I built this whole bike on faith. Hadn't even ridden a 29er - yah - pretty crazy - I expected a lot but got way more than I had hoped or imagined. Everything I'd read about the 29er handling characteristics was 100% true - add that to a frame that is actually built to fit a 6'4" 200lb rider and i found my dream ride - I can't stay off of it - and can't wait to see what it's like with the cranks built for my size and Q rings to get even more out of those strokes.
Great customer service / always fast communication from Nick at Zinn.

Strengths:    Super Bike. Does everything very well. It is a great tool. A good tool allows the user to not pay attention to the tool but to the task at hand. It climbs very well and goes down in a very controlled stable fashion. It just rocks!

Weaknesses:    Because it is a very big bike (read: long wheel base), the 29r XXL frame can be a bit different in tight areas. But once the rider learns to take a larger, faster carving turn rather than squaring the corners off, it doesn't really matter that it is longer. Where you have to go slightly slower because of its size, it more than makes up the difference everywhere else.

Bottom Line:
It flat out rocks. It is a must ride to believe. If you are 6 feet 4 or taller, THIS IS THE BIKE! PERIOD! I am 6'7", 205lbs, 42yrs, with about 15 years riding experience. I am fit and will push it as far as I can. That said, on this bike I rode at an entirely new, and higher level with less fatigue and effort. For the cost of an "off the rack" bike, you can have a very special, custom fitted, light bike with full suspension and great setup.
