Came from a 29er then a 27.5 race bike. This is still light, climbs great, descends amazingly and is a great all around trail bike. Like the geometry and blue paint job.

A little too much bike for fire roads or strict xc riding. Clear coat scratches easily. Pricy when new.

I have the Fox 140 fork and a Cane Creek DB Inline shock. Really like the DB Inline, have yet to tune it perfectly, but it works better than the Fox RP23 or CTD that I've had on other bikes. 1 x 11 w/ a 32 chainring and KS Lev dropper post. 2.35 Hans Kopf up front and 2.25 Nobby Nick in the back. Climbs great, corners great, descends great, and sucks us rocky/rooty trails with ease. Nice light use trail bike, nimble, quick, climb in your saddle with great traction. Got it used for $2,500. Probably close to 27lbs. I'm over 55 and love to ride fast medium technical single track. I also like to go fast downhill from years of skiing experience. Great bike. Love it.

Got this bike for a great price during the HD3 announcement blowout sales. I'm totally good with slightly obsolete equipment when it's the former best available and the pricing is good. Competitive cyclist had full XT bikes for $3300, I added a dropper post and two sets of pedals (XT trails and saint flats) and got it delivered for $3700. I had been drooling over these for a while but just couldn't do it at full price, even though I think it was a good bike at $5600. The sale price was just irresistible! The bike climbs very good, considering its weight, it's really comfortable for long rides and it goes downhills fast and accurately. I might do some upgrades to drop the weight, carbon wheels and a 2016 fox 34 might be in my future, but even with no changes I'm really happy with this bike!

Where to start... i guess the ride. the HD and now the HDR just ride amazingly well. they're just really well balanced, true trail bikes that do everything well. super stiff, robust chassis that goes where you point it. i was riding an HD 160 for several years and was curious about 27.5 when the HDR was introduced so i just went for it. going from the HD 160 to the hdr 27.5 with 130mm travel was not a step back. there may be rides where the extra inch of travel might have been noticed, but so far i haven't found them! the bike climbs incredibly well, and goes down even better. I've got fox 2014 CTD kit on mine and it's been great. much better then the 2013 stuff. running XX1 and it lives up to the hype. solid and silent. haven't dropped a chain.

I really can't say much except for maybe tire clearance in the back. there are some huge 2.35/2.4 tires out there, and not all of them are going to be a comfy fit on this bike. I've run big 2.25 rubber in back (Ardents, Nobby Nics, Neo Motos) and they're great. had a minor issue with the KS LEV post, but KStook care of it.

If you're in the market for a proper mountain bike/trail bike/all mountain bike, the HDR is the sh!t. this is a true "do it all" bike, especially if you want the flexibility of being able to switch from 26" and 27.5" for different uses. I love this thing!
