Strengths:    lowrider system keeps mass toward the lumbosacral junction/reducing lower back muscle fatigue and eliminated unrelenting muscle tension at the base of the neck and between the shoulder blades. stays put on the descents without the pack bouncing into the helmet and cooler back with improved sweat evaporation. surprisingly roomy (so much so I'm considering a smaller "splitback". made between the pacific and atlantic shores and may cost a few more bucks but divide that by hours used and that becomes mere cents.

Weaknesses:    1-not really a weakness but it takes several rides with minor adjustments to balance the fit low enough so that the chest strap (with full bladder) doesn't feel restraining on climbs and high enough over the sacrum where the pack won't catch on the saddle for the out of saddle climbing. 2-no bladder but I use a 45 ou Camelbak bladder without issues of kinking tube issues as it arises out of the bladder-years ago their bladder supplier produced a less than durable product.

Bottom Line:
Used my Lobo for '09 Markleeville, Mt. Shasta Super and experienced some back muscle issues (high and low). Used the wingnut hyper for '10 Triple Bypass, Pike's Peak, Ride4yellow and a ride last weekend up to Columbine Mine and Powerline(Leadville) without pack related induced back muscle fatigue. Even with this pack, I rarely use the waist(hip) strap since even on the Powerline descent the pack doesn't hardly migrate and if it does, minimally, once you're back in the saddle the pack observes Newtonian physics and slides back in place.

Strengths:    comfortable, stable, roomy, does not overheat your back

Weaknesses:    none so far

Bottom Line:
This is a really great pack. Feels like I am not wearing a pack. It does not move around at all - I do not have to 'bounce it' back into place after rough trails.
The pockets are easy to use while riding.
It holds plenty of stuff.
I highly recommend this pack.

Strengths:    Comfortable: Low center of gravity is good for back. Stable while riding. Wide, open web straps.

Weaknesses:    1)Won't work for most women: non-adjustable (can't move up or down) chest strap goes right over my breasts. 2) Poor construction at least in silver reflective material. Have used pack only about 4 times and seams are coming undone. 3) the placement of water tube is too low. I had to thread it through a cell phone holder I added. 4) open gu bottle pouch does not have a lid so can't secure a small cell phone (it could fall out). Had to add a phone holder.

Bottom Line:
Good idea but needs improvements.

Anybody Use Camelbak Racebak? Wingnut Splitback?

I was looking at the Camelbak Racebak earlier and it looks like it would be pretty good for endurance racing. I'm wanting to lose my pack but I just can't get used to getting all m   Read More »
