Date Reviewed: June 20, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:good amount of storage for size. Sternum strap hold the pack tight
Weaknesses:Bite valve doesn't flow enough
Similar Products Used:camelbak
Bike Setup:Ted Wojcik XT/XTR, Manitou Skareb elite, raceface etc
Bottom Line:Great pack for the price, got it on sale at Nashbar. Hold 2 tubes, pump inside with bladder (which may break bladder in a crash) Topeak alien, snacks, keys, phone and maps. The sternum strap does a good job holding the pack in place. Its a good couple hour ride pack, not too big that you're carrying to much weight and not to small that you can't bring the essentials with you. But the bite valve doesn't flow enough water fast enough. the tube may be to narrow

Date Reviewed: July 8, 2000
Favorite Trail:Victor Falls, Tapeworm, Tahuya
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Oodles of space for tools in stylish and very functional side pockets. Fit. Generous volume in water bladde
Weaknesses:Bite valve bites hardcore (perhaps updated since '99)
Similar Products Used:Blackburn Hydrapak
Bike Setup:Foes Weasel avec Marzocchi Z-1s, XT/XTR, TruVativ Stylos
Bottom Line:Perhaps K2 has done an update of their bite valve since 1999 when I purchased this hydration system, but the stock bite valve (1999 model) absolutely sucks. When its not falling off its consistently leaking or worse, spraying agua all over. I once carried it in my tote bag to a ride like an idiot and found all my post-ride clothes soaked and my water gone from the leaky valve. Kind of disappointing since they built this pack with Dana Designs who are meticulous in making their own gear. Otherwise, the rest of the Hydroplane is well designed and works great. Holds lots of tools and spare parts comfortably for those long hauls. Minus 1 chili for the leaky bite valve on mine.
