from WI Date Reviewed: November 25, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Strengths: | Keeps coffee hot all day | | Weaknesses: | Cage could use some refinements | | Bottom Line: | The option of carrying steaming hot java along on rides is pretty deluxe when old man winter moves in, so the Hot Unit is definitely worth 5 stars there. However the cage of the Hot Unit could use some work. Mounted on seat tube braze-ons, it sticks out enough to snag your leg when you're off camber. Mounted on the downtube braze-ons, it still sticks out too far and the somewhat sharp, exposed corners caused a few small leg gashes during crashes. The metal corners bent easily. The stainless vacuum bottle (thermos) itself has worked great. My solution was to forget the bike mount and carry in a pack along with the other extra stuff you need in winter. During those few and quick brisk moments off the saddle, a shot of home-brewed coffee can be salvation on a frigid ride.5 stars for the unit. 3 stars for the cage. | Overall Rating: |
