Strengths:    Valve is great. No more hard plastic nib to pull on with your teeth. The lockout is great for travel when your bottle is in a cooler.. you can pack them flat.

Weaknesses:    Bottle has an odd shape and for me I had to get used to a certain grip that would allow a good squeeze to get good flow. I have large hands and good grip strength.. the bottle just isn't that easy or natural to get a quick hard squeeze out during the 5 seconds you have between the last rock and the next tree.

Flow volume is quite good, definitely not worse than any other bottle, but I want more.

Valve can still spit out juice onto your frame. This didn't happen when I first bought these. Took about 8 months

Bottom Line:
The valve is the best thing about these bottles. When new they work flawlessly, although you do have to be sure to screw the lid down tight or it will leak from between the lid and bottle, like any plastic bottle will.

I didn't notice any plastic taste.

I would give a higher rating if the ease of the squeeze was better, and if there was a bit more flow volume through the valve. Loved these when I first got them because they were much better than standard bottles, but now that I've had them for a while I think a better bottle can be done for the price. Trying the new Specialized Purist Mo' Flo water bottle next..

Strengths:    This bottle only really excels over other bottles in one area: the valve. The bite valve is a nice touch, allowing you to get a real purchase on the nib without hurting your teeth. The twist action to close the valve is very nice, and can easily be manipulated with one hand or with teeth, and between the bite valve and that, stops any chance of a leak from the valve area. It is available in a handful of colors, if matching your gear down to the smallest detail is your thing.

Weaknesses:    The bottle itself is the weakest link. Without the cap, absolutely nothing sets it apart from a $3 bottle. It has a pleasing enough shape, but it is uninsulated. On a longer ride, it is nice to have the option for a cool/warm drink, and insulation is certainly within the price point. The design of the valve significantly complicates cleaning the bottle.

Bottom Line:
It comes down to being a nice bottle, but not especially worth the price. I enjoy using mine, but only because it was a freebie. The soft valve is nice, but not especially game changing, and Camelbak's selling point of not messing your jersey is fairly moot--most people have the control to not do that with a regular bottle.

It should be mentioned that the valve does not function like a regular hydro pack valve. It is assembled like a ketchup bottle top, with a small piece of quartered silicone in the center of the hole. One would still need to suck back real hard or squeeze the bottle for liquid to come out.

At any rate, the Podium is not a life changing bottle, nor does it solve any real problem (that I've seen). Better saving your money and buying a regular bottle.
