Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $20.00
Strengths:It looks sort of cool.
Weaknesses:It doesn't work. I bought a new hybrid bike about 3 weeks ago and the shop clerk suggested I have an air pump as well attached to my bike. I've been on my bike about 4 times in the past 3 weeks (busy schedule, other events interupted any biking plans). I figure today is Sunday, I'd go for another ride but I need to check my air pressure since I haven't ridden my bike for about 6 days. Front tire feels a bit low from just sitting around, so I go to use the MINI and it doesn't even clamp down. Says it fits both Presta and Schrader style valves. The brass cap on the Presta style valve I have is unscrewed and opened. The red plastic thing inside the MINI pump hole is all smashed and won't push in for the valve to go in and clamp on.
My very first time using the pump when I actually need it and it didn't work at all. Now my tire's PSI is nearly flat from trying to get the damn MINI to clamp onto the valve. FAILURE PUMP.
Bottom Line:MINI MasterBlaster = FAILURE. Don't waste your money on crap that won't work the very first time you attempt to use it.

Date Reviewed: May 23, 2009
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $30.00
Strengths:Mounts neatly next to waterbottle.
Looks nice on my bikes.
You can throw it a long way. (Retrieve the patches from the end cap first! You might actually get some use out of them.)
Weaknesses:Doesn't work. Apparently any contact with dust will cause the seals to fail and you will be pumping your arm but not your tyres.
Similar Products Used:Wrench Force POS.

Bottom Line:Works great once or twice under laboratory conditions; once out on the trial it will fail. I've owned two over the course of a year, both left me stranded when I actually needed them and the LBS couldn't fix them either. My next pump will be a Topeak Morph, reluctant though I am to punt more money in Topeak's direction after these two abject failures. The Morph is what my LBS mechanic uses even though they don't actually stock them. Hmmm.

Strengths:none, I returned it very quickly because it did't work very well, straight from the shop. I bought the cheaper version which is really good!
Weaknesses:doesn't pump your tyre up very well, doesn't measure the pressure very well

Date Reviewed: September 25, 2007
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:20$
Strengths:Small & compact
Weaknesses:It is garbage with a poor excuse for a mount, and a wildly innacurate "gauge".
Bike Setup:2006 Devinci Podium
Bottom Line:I bought the Topeak Master Blaster as an "on the road" pump...
1st use.... took around 10/15 minutes to get the tyre anywhere near a reasonable psi... The Topeak master blaster will pump your fore-arm and biceps way before it'll pump you're tyres...
2nd use... Same sh#t different day..... throw the "master blaster" in the garbage, or give it to a "friend".
I would not recommend this awful pump to anybody....Shame on you Topeak!

Price Paid: $10.00
Strengths:Simple to use. Puts air in when I need it (presta valve); Handle folds to ease the pressure on your hands. Cheap $.
Weaknesses:Mount is meant to be attached along side a water bottle. Which is fine unless you only carry a camelback. Then it just seems to bang into your leg with every stroke. Would have preffered a regualr mount.
Bike Setup:GF Cobia
Bottom Line:Overall, a great price. Simple and works. Also, has a cap to keep mud and other debris out.

Favorite Trail:Since moving back from Japan I have yet to find even a decent trail here. Flippin the bird to DOT
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:Seo Cycle Pro Shop at Tokyo Bay LalaPort, Minami-Funabashi, Chiba, Japan
Strengths:This is my second Toppeak Mini Master Blaster. The first one was great. The second takes more tuning than my bike to get minimal performance.
Weaknesses:When I pump the tire up above 25psi it starts letting out short bursts of air pressure--so I can't inflate the tire as I want. Locking the pump to the valve is the surest bet on a futile pumping effort and it's hard to imagine why.
Similar Products Used:Mini Master Blaster, both the great original and this piece of crap. The first one was the AK-47 of pumps--indestructible, required no maintainence to perform. This one requires worshipping and even then doesn't get the job done. And ages ago I used a frame pump the length of the top tube which worked just fine.
Bike Setup:2002 Trek 8000 with ZR9000 frame--tricked out.
Bottom Line:Did you see a guy changing a tire in a rainstorm cursing the piece of crap pump he was using? Yeah, that was me.

I got 20psi in the tire and rode to the nearest LBS to borrow their floor pump.

This is the third time I've had a similar experience with the 2003 version of this pump. I just took it apart completely, gave it loving maintainence, and put it back together better than the factory did. We'll see what happens next.

The other one--same make and model--2001 maybe-- worked great even covered with crud, rolled in sand, dried out on rides in the blazing sun. It was great, that's why I bought another one for the other bike. Bad idea.

Strengths:dual-pumping: Pumps when you pull and when you push could be a nice feature.
Weight.
Good Frame-mount.
Reasonable price. (I just don't remember it)
Weaknesses:The Seals !
When pumping to fast it blows (because of heat perhaps?), and you have to take it apart and put it together again to make it work for a couple of seconds again.
The dual-pumping isn't that great either:
It takes far too long to pump (10 minutes?) and it's really hard work, so nothing for the roadbike and neither for the mountainbike!
Similar Products Used:Topeak Mountain Morph floor pump with fram-mount, SKS Air Mount Pro
Bike Setup:Principia MSLe, Manitou Skareb, XTR, Ritchey WCS, Hügi...
Bottom Line:I used it three times before I trashed it.

Yes I know how to take care of a pump, and the seal was oiled proberly too.

My problem: I want something light, but durable. Is that impossibel?

Well the floor pump worked o.k. but it's damn heavy.
And working with kartusches is a hazard of its own. But I'll proberly stick to those again if the latex-tubes won't hold up better than the old butyl-tubes:(

Strengths:Light, Smarthead, Small, Price
Weaknesses:Gauge
Bottom Line:Like some of you mentioned, the gauge is not very accurate. But it's really for trail purposes so it's understandable given the price...

I like the feel of it, the pump seems durable and sturdy. It is a tight fit on schrader valves but it's not that bad.

If you're in the market for a mini pump, I certainly recommend it. It hasn't left me in the woods yet!

Strengths:Light, gauge, seems strong, seals well
Weaknesses:handle not very good for grasping, gauge read a little low (at least on mine)
Similar Products Used:lots over 30 years
Bike Setup:two wheels
Bottom Line:Not a bad little pump, can pump up my tires up to 60 psi (takes forever), don't need more than that. Gauge is reading a little low ... checked pressure with two very good gauges afterwards ... but it's consistently low so I can deal with it. Don't know about dirt getting into it, I carry nothing on my bike itself. I have large hands and the handle is not well suited for them, but this is only for emergencies after all.

Decent pump, does the job it was intended for, but nothing that made me go "WOW".

Favorite Trail:won't say
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $20.00
Strengths:Seems light, nice and small, looks good, mounts to frame easily on bottle cage screws
Weaknesses:DIRT, DIRT, DIRT! no way of keeping dirt out - I love dirt and any product that doesn't is not for me. Unless you put this in a ziplock bag it will fail. If you're a roadie you might be happy with this pump but on trails the seals are far too weak to survive any dirt.
Similar Products Used:Zefal, Crank bros hammerhead.
Bike Setup:Giant NRS
Bottom Line:Dual action worked well out of the box and on the first two rides that I used it on, gage was nice and seemed fairly consistent and accurate. On my third ride it rained and it immediately became a single action pump (i.e. the reverse pump seal failed) - I have rebuilt it and lubricated it several times but could never get the seals to work again, even the single action became intermittent - have thrown it away now and I am much happier.

Replaced it with the Crank Bros hammerhead which is working well, once you get used to how to get it to seal on the valves and it comes with a nice frame mount that keeps dirt away from the seals. Have not taken it out in rain yet though.

Date Reviewed: June 28, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Nice design
Weaknesses:Doesnt pump when dirt gets in
Bottom Line:I bought this as an emergency pump for the trail. I use a floor pump normally.

After about 9 months I had a puncture and I found that dirt had got in and damaged the seals. I was able to get enough air in to get the rim off the ground and I was only half a mile from home.

The LBS changed it for a new one, and this time I mummified it in duct tape before putting it on the bike.

6 months later I had another slow puncture, so I unwrapped it but it still didnt work. I took it apart at home and found that dirt had still got in and jammed the seals.

The problem seems to be the seal in the handle. It doesnt move up and down the tube like a conventional pump, so any dirt doesnt get dislodged. It might be more reliable if it was used more often.

I have given up on it now and bought a CO2 pump

Bottom Line:Originally purchased a MMB without the gauge. Could never get it to not leak air. Sent it back to Topeak who immediately worked very well with me and replaced the original MMB with a gauge MMB. Still could not get it to seal and not leak air. Finally, really shoved it onto the Presta connection and locked the clasp. Man, it worked and worked well! Took about 50 pumps to get 47 psi. I am now delighted with the MMB. Works fine and the gauge is pretty accurate when compared to a Topeak Digial gauge.

Date Reviewed: August 12, 2001
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $17.00
Strengths:Not too heavy and fairly easy to use.
Weaknesses:It doesn't fit overly well to the fitting that attaches your pump to the frame. Mine often vibrates out of one of the two 'clips' that hold it in. The velcro strap is sufficient enough to keep the pump from falling off, but having to push the pump back into the clips is a pain.
Bottom Line:After about four years of pumping air reasonably well, mine just broke, which is why I'm out looking for reviews on a different one (I probably won't buy another MMB). It leaks air when I use it now and makes my tires more flat than when they started, which is a problem.

There is nothing exciting about this pump. The bad frame attachment is a problem, and although four years might be an okay life out of a pump, my ideal one that gets you excited every time you have to use it, and just keeps on working forever!

Bottom Line:I purchased the MASTER BLASTER DX pump, but it's nearly the same. It's very powerful - you have 50psi within 2-3 minutes. Also it looks quite good. But there is one weakness: the attachment. It takes place under the bottle owner and that looks ugly. Also you can't use the bottle owner at the saddle-frame, because the pump would touch the crankset. What a pity...

Bottom Line:My only choice for a pump at my LBS was this one or some plastic junk pump. This one has made me very happy. I like the locking mechanism (leak proof). The small compact design is amazing. It doesn't seems like it would put out that much air but, I can get get to 60PSI quickly without killing myself. I usually throw it in my backpack and it's so light I forget it's in there. I like the attention to detail on the handle which makes it very comfortable to pump. Overall an awesome pump that won't leave you passed out on the trail. Of course, I always bring the CO2's too.

Topeak's Mini Master Blaster is an excellent Mini pump. I looked at a couple of the blackburns, and even considered buying a Cannondale mini(which I found out is a piece of crap). After careful thought and a little bit of help from the salesman, I decided to go with the Mini Master Blaster. It pumps easy at 120 kPa. No air leaks out, and it switches real easy between schrader and presta valve settings. To top everything off, it was only $15- a steal for such a good pump. 5 chilies until it proves me otherwise!
