Purchased At:Wiggle online store
Strengths:Looks good, feels sturdy, compact.
Weaknesses:Very difficult to get it to seal on valves, takes ages to inflate tyre - thats providing you succeed in getting it to work.

Date Reviewed: July 23, 2009
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:REI, Berkeley CA
Strengths:Good workout. Some air comes out. Compact. Looks good - as with most Crank Bros stuff IMHO.
Weaknesses:Everything else. I can get to 40PSI when the guage is working. The guage only reads when pumping presta valves on mine. Takes forever to fill anything, reverted to my $10 zefal pump.
Similar Products Used:Various $5 - $10 pumps.
Bike Setup:XT hubs + XM819 UST + Kenda Nevegal 2.1
Bottom Line:As I'm slowly finding out, the lower end of Crank Bros' product range (i.e. not $100 pedals and adjustable seatposts) is of very low quality. Style over substance (just like their lower-end rusty pedals with awful bearings).

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:WipeOut Red Deer
Strengths:Light weight. Does quickly fill tire to 20 psi.
Weaknesses:Hard to get a seal. Will not pump past 25-30 psi. Arms will fall off before then.
Bike Setup:Cannondale Rize 3
Bottom Line:Maybe all compact pumps can only pump 30 psi. Im not sure. But this one will wear you out trying to fill a tire. So if your already breathing heavy during a ride and have to fix a flat. This will set you over the edge. Hard to keep the seal on the pump and very hard to pump. No way it will do 115 psi like it says. 30 psi MAX.

Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Looks cool, looks like it should work.
Weaknesses:Simply does not work at all, can only acheive about 30lbs pressure after using for several minutes. The biggest disappointment and poorest bike product I've ever purchased. DON'T BUY THIS PUMP, IT SUCKS BIG TIME!!!
And it's too heavy for a mini-pump.
Similar Products Used:Blackburn mini-pumps, Performance brand mini-pumps. Not the greatest, but they work!
Bottom Line:Buy something else, or you'll ride home on a flat!!

Favorite Trail:Skeggs Point
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Bomb proof construction. Built-in gauge. Instant switch presta and shraeder head. High volume vs high pressure switch.
Weaknesses:The screw cap valve heads. On my trials rig with it's 2.4" wide shraeder tires, it's nearly impossible to get the head seated far enough on the valve and the screw cap threaded tightly enough to prevent leaks! Also the bulty head prevents the pump's usage in tight places (like my kid's 12" rear wheel). It's damn heavy for those of you who care.
Similar Products Used:Various Topeak pumps, and the new (AWESOME) Lezyne Pressure Driver.
Bike Setup:Specialized Stumpjumper FSR w/ Rockshock Reba Race.
Czar stock trials bike w/ FFW setup.
Bottom Line:Nice concept, imcompletely executed, and probably not test a lot in the field.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:None
Weaknesses:Pressure guage doesn't work. Presta side doesn't work. Can't get over 30psi - which is only a guess of course because no guage! Not enough pressure to seat tire beads on rims, so completely useless when putting (back) on tires.
Similar Products Used:Power Pump Alloy
Bike Setup:2005 Giant NRS 1, Mavic 819, Maxxis Crossmark, Hayes HFX-9, Derore XT, Race Face Evolve, Reba Race, Fox Float R, etc.
Bottom Line:I'd rather flush money down the toilet.

Strengths:The pump is very sturdy. The aluminum barrel is of very high quality and so are the internal seals of the pump. Also, it looks really good.
Weaknesses:The pump's rubber seals for both the presta and Schrader valves leak air while pumping. However, I sent an email to Crank Brothers and they sent me another set of rubber seals. The warranty for these pumps is amazing, as Crank Brothers will send you any part for this pump, free of charge.

One thing I can say about this pump is that it is really hard to pump alot of air into the tires. The pump hurts your hand alot while using it. It's almost like getting a workout for your forehands.
Similar Products Used:Blackburn Air Stick
Planet Bike Airship
Bike Setup:I have three bikes, so I am too lazy to write. lol
Bottom Line:This pump is expensive. However, the warranty and service from Crank Brothers is excellent. They will send you any part you need for this pump, free of charge, so that is something you won't get with other manufacturers. However, it is very hard to put alot of air into your tires with this pump, but it is good for emergencies when you have nothing else to use. Other than that, if you are using this for home use, get a floor pump instead.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:Cyclepath
Strengths:Coolest looking micro-pump on the planet.
Built in gauge (the reason I retired my previous pump and got this one)
Weaknesses:Works like crap. Had a flat on the weekend and two of us pumped for 10 minutes straight (had to switch off) and it barely reached 30 psi (too little for my weight).
Similar Products Used:Zefal and Planet Bike micro-pumps.
Bottom Line:I don't know if I got a defective pump, but mine simply doesn't work. I'm taking it back to the shop to see if there's a problem with it and whether the others they have will work any better. Bummer, because it's tiny, light, and very cool looking.

Strengths:Small, built in guage.... Cheap.
Weaknesses:Cheap, Difficult to attach/remove without losing a lot of air. Takes several years to inflate a 29er tire.
Similar Products Used:Floor pumps, innovations inflator. Air compressor.
Bike Setup:Specialized Rockhopper 29er comp
Bottom Line:Trash. I smashed it on a rock and threw it into the woods. Later I felt bad about littering. Sorry.

Strengths:Super compact. Mounts easily to frame. Aluminium alloy body seems sturdy so far. High Volume / High Pressure switch works as advertised so far. Can reach low-med pressure (up to 30 PSI) quite quickly in a flat tire. Can reach quite high pressure (60+PSI?) with a bit of effort.
Weaknesses:PATHETIC INSTRUCTIONS on packaging. Tricky at first to lock valve. Gauge is very inaccurate (reads very low) for me.
Similar Products Used:Zefal plastic job (it was crappo).
Bike Setup:Merida Matts Drifter in a large frame, configured as a commuter.
Bottom Line:After a couple of uses, feelings are mixed. The package came with _very poor instructions_ on the somewhat tricky valve-locking mechanism. Go to http://www.crankbrothers.com/tech_pumppro.php for some slightly more helpful ones.

As a result of the crappy instructions, I deflated a tire while trying to learn how to use it properly. Good test case for "high volume" mode! Once connected properly, it worked quite well, and I was able to get the tire up to usable pressure quite quickly. I then proceeded to attempt to get to about 60 PSI - I reckon it took about 100 quick pumps for each 10-15 PSI above 30 - each pump is very quick, but quite a bit of effort overall still.

The gauge seems to be seriously under-reporting the pressure unfortunately - it's claiming only 30PSI when I'm sure there's a lot more in there. I'll contact Crank Brothers and see if this can be sorted out.

Overall, it works quite well for a micro pump, but is quite expensive - if I had my time over I'd look for something a bit larger and cheaper.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Calhoun Cycle
Strengths:Flies well through the air because it is heavy.
Weaknesses:It is a heavy pump because of the metal casing. The gauge stopped working within a couple of weeks and the pump stopped working well within a couple of months. It would only pump air on the down stroke. It lost the advertised dual action piston. Got to a point, I could get more air into the tube using my mouth.
Similar Products Used:Topeak.
Bottom Line:Don't waste your money on this product. There are better products out there. Read reviews before spending your money. so you don't get frustrated and stranded by a substandard product.

Strengths:Small, alloy body, light.
Weaknesses:Only pumped to 20 psi. Takes a long time to pump. Expensive. Didn't come with mounting h/w.
Similar Products Used:Topeak DX.
Bottom Line:Guy at LBS was suprised this pump didn't work well. When I returned it I was acutally going to get another Crankbrothers but this time tested it out and the results were the same. Tried the Topeak DX and looks like it was what I was looking for.

I guess if all you need is to get you somewhere after a trail repair then the CB Pro will suffice. But for a little less the DX pumped up my tires fully, in less time and effort, and came with mounting h/w.
