Strengths:High volume for a micro pump
Weaknesses:It's still a micro pump
Similar Products Used:Blackburn, etc frame pumps
Bike Setup:29er
Bottom Line:Not sure what all the whining is about in the other reviews... I've had this pump all season, but wanted to wait until I changed a tire with it before I posted a review.

This is a micro pump that's small enough to fit in a seat bag. It's not a floor pump, and no one should expect it to be. The valve attachment is solid- it does not leak at all. I filled my 29" x 2.35 tire in much less time than with larger frame pumps.

This pump fits in a seat bag along with a multi tool and a tube, allowing me to ditch the Camelbak for any ride short enough for two water bottles. It's everything you could ask for, given the size.

Strengths:light, compact, inexpensive, works great for MTB
Weaknesses:low volume, a little awkward to use
Similar Products Used:hurricane, zefal, etc
Bike Setup:MTB with presta
Bottom Line:A good choice for the MTB rider concerned with size and weight. 5.6", 93 grams, fits easily in a small seatpack along with tools, patch kit, spare tube, etc. Needed to use it the first week I owned it and it did the job. Sealed perfectly to presta valve by twisting collar. Perhaps those who've have problems haven't read instructions carefully or aren't using current model. You do have to be careful to support it or you can damage the valve stem. Takes some muscle above 35 psi on high volume setting, but I didn't bother to switch it over to high pressure.

Because of size, takes about 50% more strokes that the Hurricane Micro Mini telescoping pump it replaced, but worth the weight/size savings to me.

No comment on usability as road pump.

Favorite Trail:Anything that I'll probably eat dirt on somehow
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $19.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Short. Schrader and Presta heads. Dual high pressure/high volume settings. Mid-priced. Will get you out of jam when called upon.
Weaknesses:T-head makes it a little bulky. 100 psi? HAH, on crack!
Similar Products Used:Cheap pumps I can't remember now.
Bike Setup:Custom 08' Stumpy S-Works
Bottom Line:I bought this two days ago when I built up a seat tool bag to attach after buying my ultra-expensive bike. I needed a dual-head pump to handle my Presta tires and Schrader air shocks.

I'm running tubeless rear, but I forgot to check the pressure before the ride and I rolled into a small dried out rivulet just enough to briefly break the tire bead seal. My cousin whips out his CO2 pump (Blackburn Airfix CO2 Multitool, FWIW) and... fizzz... Empty tank. Swaps in new cartridge and... leaks uncontrollably. Third cartridge the pump is unable to puncture tank.

Oh well, glad I just bought my CB Power Pump so my turn. Huff, puff to get volume in. Switch to high pressure. Stroke, stroke... 160 pumps. Barely 30 psi. Well its getting dark and another hour before dusk, okay, good enough to get back on the track and continue the circuit but taking it easy on my $500 CB Cobalt rim...

So, overall, this pump is good enough to just barely get you going without having to cancel the whole ride and head back immediately, albeit, handicapped.

It didn't leak at all while pumping, unlike many of the other reviews here. I ensured the twist lock was neutral first before fully seating on the stem, then twisted it towards the valve head being used.

Can I ever reach 100 psi with it? Maybe if I was on metamphetamines, or maybe on a roadie with low volume, high pressure. But on a MTB? In all fairness, I doubt any of these micro-pumps can get there without spending half a day doing the hand job.

I definitely would recommend having SOME manual pump on hand as you may run out of CO2 cartridges when you least expect it.

For my bike, I don't want to mount a frame pump for two reasons: 1) scratching the paint off the carbon fiber frame; 2) dirt and crude collecting potentially reducing reliability when need the most.

I also didn't want to have to lug a pump in a back pack as I usually ride sans back packs unless on epic rides, so I needed a pump to fit in a 75ci seat pack. And since I needed a dual head pump, that left only 2 pumps that I know of that fit my needs: 1) CB Power Pump (subject of this review), and 2) Genuine Innovations SecondWind MTB hybrid pump.

CO2 pumps definitely have their worth, but I will never carry both at the same time, and at a minimum I will always carry a manual pump. So, next time I stop at REI I'm springing for the pump #2 above (Genuine Innovations SecondWind MTB), which also has just one compact head that fits both types of valves in the same head (no switching parts or removing adapters). It has a lifetime warranty (just like the CB) so I can't go wrong. And since I have three bikes, my CB is going into my hard tail seat pack (if I can squeeze it into its 50ci size).

Overall, the CB Power Pump can get the job done in a pinch, but I doubt you can get enough pressure to ride with wild abandon until you get to a real air pump. Its a good trailside tool to get you going. That's about it in my opinion...

Bottom Line:just composed email thrown in the direction of crank brothers:

the worst pump i've ever had the misfortune of purchasing. i've just resisted the temptation to smash it to pieces so you can have it back. it's ridiculous how you can get away with selling these. god knows how the smaller ones in the range function?! mine is going straight back to the shop (http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/).

1) the valve head piece doesn't stay tight, so air escapes
2) the tighter i make it, to stop the air escaping, the harder it is to remove once the tire is pumped - hence i lose about 20psi minimum
3) schwarzenegger on speed would never be able to get this pumped to the stated 130psi on the packaging - i've struggled for almost an hour now trying to achieve 80psi! i'm 6, 1" and 200lbs!!
4) while using this i've also scraped the f**k out of my spokes because the valve head is too bulky. something i never would have done using my old foot pump (which i'm sticking to from here on out)

'if you want to pump for half an hour for 20psi this pump is for you' - so right (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Pump/product_22490.shtml)

i'll be staying away from crank brothers in future and will make a point of stating so to others. absolute CRAP! talk about form over function.

I will be getting two more of them in the future so that I don't have to move it from bike to bike and I'm not even going to bother thinking about a different pump.

-Tough to pump at high pressures
-Hard to get seal just right
-Heavy
Similar Products Used:Topeak Mini Morph
Bike Setup:2007 Trek 1500 (stock except Trek Discovery Wireless 8i computer)
Bottom Line:This pump is very cool looking and very sturdy, unlike a lot of pumps on the market. I have used a Topeak Mini Morph with my Mt. bike but the seal keeps getting stuck on the valve of the tires and ripping the tubes. I purchased this pump in good faith for use on my new road bike and have only been semi dissapointed. The case is nice...if you want to keep the pump in your camelback. The mountings do not seem to be very...dependable. The pump is heavy but seems to be very durable. The gauge seems to be semi-accurate but expected. When used the seals are just find, after you get the pump on just right. This is where people have issues becouse learing to get the pump on just right gets some use to. The pump pumps fine but anything over 40 psi, you need to use high pressure regardless of tube. Overall, the pump does everything I need, but just not perfectly. This pump is good for any rider who wants a pump to place in their camelback and needs a rough idea how much air their tubes have. While my Topeak is easer to use, it also feels of lesser quality and the seals have busted in my first year of ownership.

Weaknesses:Instructions are vague!
Similar Products Used:Power somethingorother (mini pump)
Bike Setup:MTB with Slicks for commuting
Bottom Line:I've had both experiences with this pump. The instructions are a bit vague. When I first got it I tried it out and just put the pump on my valve and tried to turn the black thing to tighten!! THIS IS NOT HOW IT WORKS! Needless to say, it started leaking at around 10 psi.

So I searched the internet and found how to operate it. You don't tighten the black turny things. Leave it where it is. Put the pump on the valve and then rotate the neck, where the pressure meter is, towards the type of valve you are inflating. Bingo, a perfect seal and I was able to get up to 70 psi in no time at all. Put it on high volume until 30psi then switched over to high pressure for the rest.

This really is an awesome pump but test it on a empty tube first to learn how it works. I really believe all these reviews saying it doesn't work is for the same reason I thought it didn't. I couldn't work it!!

Bottom Line:Picked this up at REI, due to it's price, size and weight. Tried to use it, but found that I had to really crank the valve sealing ring to get the pump to seal to the valve (Shrader in my case). Once on, the seal between the pump and the value started hissing at around 20 psi. Took this back to REI and exchanged it toward a Topeak Mountain Morph. Now that's a nice pump!

Stay away from this product, unless you have bionic fingers to really tighten this thing down. I also found the short stoke made pumping a tire quite tedious.

Strengths:Light, pumps up quickly, Crank Brothers great customer service.
Weaknesses:Not for high pressures.
Similar Products Used:Numerous pumps for various manufacturers: Park, Bell, Blackburn, etc.
Bike Setup:2004 Jamis Dakar XC Comp
Bottom Line:Don't listen to the people who say this pump doesn't work. Most likely they never tried disassembling the pump to make sure it wasn't missing anything.

I bought mine from eBay for $5 from a guy who said he couldn't get the pump to work. So after getting the pump I disassembled it, took a picture of all the parts I had and sent an email to Crank Brothers. They replied within a few days saying I was missing a spring and a rubber disk, and that they needed my address to they could send me the parts I was missing. A few days later the spring and disk arrived in the mail, and the pump was operational.

Does it work? Yes, just as advertised!! I have installed new tube tires on my bike using this pump for initial inflation and they work great. The high volume feature will pump up to 30 psi before it gets too hard, then the high pressure will get you up to 50 psi, so it's great for MTB tires. I wouldn't use this pump on a road bike, but for MTBs it's great. I run 29 psi off road, 40 psi on road so this pump does a good job.

Thanks to people who "can't get this pump to work right" you can get it cheap on eBay, or if you're not a cheapskate like me go get a new one for $15-$30 online. That's 5 chilis for value. Crank Brothers great customer service and the way the pump works as advertised earns 5 chilis for overall rating!

Bike Setup:Carbon NRS, f100x, XTR, Formula B4 SL, Easton EC, Stan's Olympic rims (alloy discs and Stan's sealant) and American Classic hubs.
Bottom Line:At least the pump was a gift as I'd be not just angry but really angry if I'd bought this. Out on trail friend got a flat (heh heh - tubes - and wasn't carrying a pump [okay I get flats too - but always carry a pump]). No prob I though I have my trusty Crank Bros pump. Unused aside from a bit of a test at home (but not to full pressure). Everyone that tried couldn't get more than 20psi in the tyre. Tried it again at home. It sucks big time. This is not even a backup pump, my dual function CO2 works better as a pump.

A major issue seems to be the stroke length. It doesn't seem to get enough pressure in the barrel. I could play around with it, but hey this was new when I got it and unused when it first bought agravation upon me. Why should I re-engineer this thing, sure it looks well made, but is a bad design.

Strengths:It is tiny, lighter than a CO2 Cartridge and head, fits in my 44 ci seat bag with room for a patch kit, tire levers and a power bar, and it guaranteed for life.
Weaknesses:Could use an instructional video. would be even lighter and smaller if it was only presta (or convertible like my blackburn)
Similar Products Used:Blackburn compact frame pumps, Zefal products.
Bike Setup:Mountain: Rocky Mountain Blizzard
Road: Vintage Benotto 850
Bottom Line:I bought this pump to because it is tiny. The size of CO2 pumps to be more precise. Only unlike C02 it works for more than one flat. For a pump this size I didn't expect super fast pumping performance or the capacity to get to high pressure fast. However, I somehow doubt that Crank Brothers were thinking of these things either when they designed the pump.
Its a finicky thing to get used to using without losing air, so try it out before a ride and is not means a replacement for a big capacity pump.
As a backup plan for mid-ride repairs, this pump takes the cake. It does what I expected it too, and with the high volume / high pressure switch is useful for both my mountain bike and my road bike.
*The four stars overall is because I expect Crank Brothers to do some improvement on the head. Otherwise meets expectations.

Strengths:Small, light, great quality
Weaknesses:Can be a little hard to understand how to operate properly, user MUST practice first, not sling it in pouch & think it will be a breeze the first time

Bottom Line:This pump is as good as Crank Bros other designs - it is top of the line. That said, it requires learning how to operate it properly. That must be why so many reviewers thought it was junk, they simply were too dumb to understand it. So, make sure you practice at home before relying on it. Make sure the caps on the ends are tight enough to provide a good seal.

Important: When pumping Presta, DON'T jam the valve in too deep before turning the collar - the presta pin can damage the internal pump seal and it will leak.

Strengths:Size (while carrying it), weight, two pumping speeds, dual head.
Weaknesses:Size (while pumping), making the valve loose air (presta).
Similar Products Used:Some Czech-made telescopic mini-pump.
Bike Setup:Irrelevant, but it's a '05 Kona Kula.
Bottom Line:When I buyed this pump, I was really blown off by its size and the clever design. I checked that it worked and it did.
Just recently I got a flat for a first time in a loooong time (about a year or so - lucky me, huh). Patched the tube, started pumping and the damn thing pumped, but pressed the presta valve release rod at the same time - man, was I pissed off. I just managed to pump it to barely rideable state and rode home praying not to get another flat.
Then I decided to make a test to know if it was pump's fault or my inability and it turned out to be the latter. So here's the trick: you have to stick the valve as far into the pump as it goes - this way it works fine (it still takes quite some time to get a decent pressure, but at least there are no leaks during pumping).
Bottom line: if you think there's something wrong with this pump, see if it ain't something wrong with your way of using it. ;) BTW, it may be way easier to use it with Schreader valves, but I can't tell as I don't use them.

Bottom line - I went for a ride with my wife. The weather was beatiful. We were about 10 miles from home when I flatted.

No big deal. Patched it up. Took out my 6 month old but never truly tested CB pump. Pumped the tube a little, and a little is all the pump would give it. Just a little. Maybe 3-5psi (if that).

Wife said 'don't you have a spare tube?'

I said 'yes, but this tube is patched fine. It's the pump.'

Fiddled with the awful little thing for about a half hour before giving up.

10 miles is a good 3 hour walk. Thank goodness for cell phones and freinds with pickup trucks.

This is the first mini-pump that's ever failed me so horribly. Had a Zefal once that peaked out at about 25psi. 25 psi would have been rideable.

20 dollars doesn't go very far these days, but in this case, 20 dollars goes nowhere.

Strengths:This pump is very small and incredibly light. That's why I chose this pump, because of it's lightness and small size. It has good ergonomics considering it is so small and it is a great tool. I've used it twice to inflate the 700x25 tires on my Lemond and it gets them up to roughly 90 pounds in about 2-3 minutes of hard pumping. The dual piston design is awesome and definitely makes getting the first 30-40 lbs of air in the tube effortless. If you plan on keeping this pump in your seat bag, make sure you have at least an 80 cubic inch one (if you have anything smaller there won't be room to fit anything except this pump).
Weaknesses:Well, it is a mini pump, so it's not gonna be as fast or easy to pump as a frame pump. But then again it isn't an ugly chunk of metal hanging off your frame either. It does take a fair amount of pumping once you switch to high pressure mode. The only real improvement that could be made is if they design the next version so it can generate higher pressures (ideally somewhere in the 110psi range).

Strengths:This pump works exeptionally well for the size. The one i have locks onto the valve(Schraeder type) amazingly well - no leaking air whilst locked on. It gets tires up to ridable pressures very very quickly.
Amazing size and weight - You can shove into your bag or wherever and wont know its there.
Weaknesses:Requires decent strength to lock the pump-head onto the valve properly - There is no leaver to lock onto the valve, you have to twist it on. Achieving higher pressures require a bit more patience. These are user weaknesses. In other words this pump has NO weaknesses for its designed purpose.

Bottom Line:Crank Bros have a patent on this pump design, that is how good it is.

If your a weight-weenie this is the ultimate pump (mine is 98grams).

Some people expect blimp-inflating capacity from a 100gram 140mm long pump, hence the many poor reviews. I think most of the problems with this product are related to user problems or just bad luck getting a dud.

Bottom Line:This thing is awesome. If you plan on getting lots of flats, you probably don't want a mini-pump, but for those of us who don't care if we have to spend an extra 2 minutes pumping on the rare occasions that we flat, this baby is the bomb. (And 2 minutes might be overestimating. This thing really pumps almost as fast as bigger pumps). It's only 1/2" longer than my Innovations Ultraflate CO2 pump and noticeably lighter (when the CO2 pump has a 12g cartridge in it), which means that I'll be carrying this as backup to my CO2 pump instead of a second CO2 cartridge from now on...

As for people having problems with using it, well, some people have problems with just about anything. This pump is not only simple, it's got clear instructions right on the pump itself! Just follow the arrows. If you're not getting air into the tire, it's because the pump isn't seated far enough onto the valve (just like any other pump).

Basically I bought it for when I didn't want to carry my camelback so I wouldn't have to buy a frame mount. However, I went to use it for the the other day and no air was entering the tube. I disconnected and pumped it a bit and air came out of the head. Went home and tried to pump up a spare tube and nothing. The only thing I can assume is that the resistance from the tube's valve is too much for this thing to overcome and/or it leaks like a sieve.

Short story - if you can get it for free give it a shot, but don't pay $ for it.

Strengths:Size, weight, storage possibilities, high volumn or high pressure capabilities. Fast for it's size and can pump to high pressures. Works for both mountain bikers and roadies.
Weaknesses:As long as you can grasp that it is a mini pump and understand that it has limitations in how much air it can pump at any one time - none.
Similar Products Used:Larger portable pumps, CO2
Bike Setup:K2 Razorback SL
Bottom Line:Can't understand why some can't use it, it has a very simple system for sealing against the presta or schrader valve with a quick twist of the collar. And it's pretty neat how they manage the adjustment between high volumn or high pressure. But some people can't work on their bikes either!!!

This pump is actually pretty amazing for it's size. I've had no trouble getting the correct pressure with either my mtb wheels or road wheels and it's a lot more reliable than one shot CO2. The only place I would prefer CO2 is during a race.

For those who think it isn't fast enough, go get a larger pump or go back to what you had. What did you expect when you got a mini pump??? The reason you thought about a mini pump was because the others pumps are too cumbersome to carry. Although this little pump is pretty fast I knew there were trade offs. I'll take my mini any day.

And for those who can't use it, well what can anyone that knows how well this pump works say. Just don't understand how anyone can't use this little pump.

Now for those who want an excellent mini pump that is very small, very light, very capable, very reliable, well made and understands the trade offs, I, for what my opinions worth, don't think you can do better.

Bottom Line:Man, I don't know what some people want from a portable pump.

This is not a floor pump. It goes in your backpack. You use it only if you get a flat. If you do get a flat, this thing will pump your tire back up, and you'll go on your way. Mostly you'll just carry it around as so much extra weight.

It's plastic, so nothing will corrode when it's in your wet, sweaty backpack. This means it will work when you need it.

I've had none of the problems with air leaking back out or whatever else people complained about -- except yes, it takes a while to pump up a tire.

Bottom Line:I really really wanted to like this pump. The size is perfect and it sits under my saddle in a pouch. I have a floor pump at home so it is just for on the road. I read all the reviews here and understood how to loosen the valve lock to get a good fit.
When the day came when I needed it, I was high up in the sierras.
I found it very hard to get a good seal. and it often leaked unless I held the Pump in compressed state. If I removed the pump from the valve and then tried to put it on again to add more air, I would envitably lose all pressure from the tire before I could get a good seal. It would take hundreds of strokes to get full pressure and I ended up having to ride at below minimum pressure untill I could get access to a stonger pump.
I returned it and am sadly looking for something as good as I hoped this would be.
Try it out if the place has a good return policy. Perhaps you will have better luck!
If I was not so disapointed I would have given it 5 chilis but as it is I must be stingy with my approuval.

Bottom Line:This thing rocks. I have no clue why people complain about the small size. This thing pumps triple as fast as the Topeak Master Blaster and it takes almost no effort. I bet i can beat my mother with it if my mother uses a normal floorpump. The dual piston technology works great, when the High Volume mode takes to much effort, just switch tot High Pressure and pump on.

I tried it twice now. The first time to find out how it worked, and second time to measure the time. Here comes the result:

I can completely inflate my tyre within 44 seconds (2 seconds connecting the pump, 32 seconds High Volume mode and 10 secondens High Pressure mode).

Notice for other users with leaking problems: You can tighten the caps on the pump head, this tightens the seal around the tube valve. Also put the valve as far as possible into the head. My valve (presta) can almost get completely into the head. I can stop pumping without losing air, and even when i'm not holding the pump in my hands it doesn't leak.

Bottom Line:This pump is pretty small. That being said, there are advantages and disadvantages to this characteristic. While I haven't read all the reviews below, it seems like some reviews simply had enormously high expectations regarding the volume of air the pump will put out for a given stroke. A cylinder that small just isn't going to be able to output a lot a air per stroke. I don't believe this pump was designed to replace a floor pump at home.

For me, the innovations (at least compared to my old blackburn) offered by this pump more than outweigh the time it takes to pump up a tire out on the trails with this pump. First, the little dial on the bottom - it's like a low gear - is great for topping off the pressure or as a bit of respite for your tired arms. And the fact that it accepts presta and schreda valves without having to take the head apart and flip stuff. This second reason is why my old blackburn is out of commision. My old roommates, not knowing there was a difference b/w valves tried to force a ball needle into the presta set head.

The pump is extremely convenient, light weight, and well designed. It may not output as much volume per stroke as my old blackburn, but it seems a lot easier to fill my tires than my old pump. Great pump, as long as you're realistic about what it can and cannot do.

Bottom Line:I always use a new gear a couple of time before I really need it. Just like when you buy a new car, at least you need to try to use the jack once before you really need to change your tire. I don't think anyone would like to stuck on the highway with a flat tire and figure out how to use the jack!

I've use this pump to top up the tires a few times. It's surely not as efficient as the bigger ones and you need some practice to hold on it with the valve. But anyway, it worked nicely.

The major strength of this pump is the size and weight. You're gonna carry it tens or even hundred of hours before you need to use it once. It's certainly not designed to use in your garage. So be realistic and please don't compare it with full size pumps.

If anyone need a good pump on each and every ride, he should carry a floor pump all the time!

I take off one chili because it does not come with good instruction on how to hold on while pumping. I have to find out myself!

A very good produce as what it's designed for.

On the rare occasion that I was able to get it to pump the tire up to a halfway respectable pressure, the pump would cling to the valve while removing it, landing me with an even flatter tire! Bottom Line:Awesome for trails. I usually never get flats. When I do, this pump more than does the trick. You'll be suprised how fast the tire pumps up. It fits in my toolbag. How do they do it! The only problem I had was once, I helped some homeless dude on his bike. He had presta(?)(the big valve) and it took me about 5 minutes just to get the pump locked on. It was just hard to get enough leverage to turn the "lock knob." But, he was impressed with the pump and decided to not ask me for money, which saved me money since I believe that homeless people have a right to drink.

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Small, effective, durable, dependable. Does its job when it needs to and can be forgotten when not being used.
Weaknesses:Learning how to hold the thing takes some time. Probably not ideal for roadies, but you can tell by the design (and other Crank Bros. offerings) that it's really intended for mountain bikes.
Similar Products Used:Chubbie, Zefal, Topeak Einstein, others
Bike Setup:I run fat tires at about 30 psi- that's all that matters for this review.
Bottom Line:I've been using this pump for a little over 3 years now and have yet to have a problem with it. Unlike some other folks who have posted, I keep it strapped to the outside of my water pack and thus exposed to the elements. I've had absolutely NO PROBLEMS with this pump. Between big hits from the trail and broken glass from the ride to work I flat out about every 2 weeks, so this pump gets a lot of use. The only thing I've ever had to do was rinse it off and apply a little grease to the inside seal to keep it fresh. Every year is enough.
Sometimes the seals are a little difficult to get on the valve stem. Just spit into the head before use and this problem goes away. In bad conditions, you can lose a lot of air when attaching it, but you already have a flat tire, and you have a reliable pump in your hand, so why worry? If you just want to have more air in your tires, then shame on you for not checking that before you walked away from your floor pump. Some people have said that sometimes it doesn't feel like it's doing anything. That's usually because the piston selector on the handle is sitting between high and low, so both chambers are open. Just make sure it's turned all the way one way or the other.
This pump is faster than all of the low-volume punps that I've tried and can hit higher pressure levels the all of the high-volume pumps. It may not be the perfect pump for roadies or racers, but I'm not either one of those and it's perfect for me.
Anybody that hates it enough to want to get rid of theirs can give it to me. mine may never die, but it still sucks when you leave your pump at home, so I'll take a spare.

Weaknesses:Like any mini pump, it's slow. It's also a bit fussy to use.
Bottom Line:Despite its shortcomings, I really like this pump. I've had to use it several times. It never failed to get air in my tube and get me home again. I usually have to fuss with the tightness of the clamp a bit, and it does seem to get very fussy when you get into higher pressure. But for mtb tire pressures it's fine, and it's so small and lightweight, I can't complain that it doesn't work as well as a floor pump!

Bottom Line:I returned this pump. I tried it on Schrader and Presta valves. It was tough to get locked on correctly, and just as your getting midway to the inflation point, something happened that I had never seen b/f. The Presta valve actually started screwing itself closed. So you have to remove the pump, unscrew the head, and then continue. The handle is uncomfortable, and after trying this pump many times, and giving up, I realized the valve stem had torn away from the tube (and yes, it is secured to the rim). Your only option is to brace the pump by holding the spokes. I really wanted to like this pump b/c of it's size and featues, but I wouldn't want to be 15m from nowhere w/the sun setting and depend on this to get me out.

Sure, it takes a little longer than a bigger pump, but it does more than enough to get me going again.

Bottom Line:This little pump seems ideal as a backup for a CO2 system, particularly for a road bike, where the ability to switch to the smaller barrel makes it possible to get in some serious pressure. Since two flats in one ride are unlikely, the hope is never to have to use this little bugger. As a backup, this little pump is attractive because of it's size, and because it doesn't weigh much more than a second 16-gram CO2 cartridge. The volume however seems too small for a mountain bike. I would think a more standard mini-pump like the Zefal Double-Shot would be more appropriate for off-road use. As well, Crank Bros. also makes a larger pump (with an internal pressure gauge).

Bottom Line:This pump is great. Til you try to use it in the cold mud on the side of the trail way off in nowhereland. It's small head is difficult to get sealed and doesnt move much air if you do manage to get it hooked up. then about halfway up you have to unscrew the back to get enough power to continue and then it moves very little air. Better bring a light or you may be looking for firewood in the dark. This pump will get you home but forget it if your planning on continuing the ride. Very frustrating. Don't even bother taking it on your road bike as it isnt capable of delivering much pressure without coming off the valve. Emergency use only? Does a flat qualify? I'm going shopping.
it does stay nice and clean in my seat bag tho.
tip: make sure you have a nut on the presta valve or it will act like a demon when you try to hook it up.

Bottom Line:I wouldn't buy this again. It's frustrating to use because it requires an awkward twist of the pump head to lock onto the valve, and it's hard to tell if the air is really flowing into the tire or not. Once I got it to work, it stopped inflating at about 50 psi and then began leaking from the valve. I haven't been able to do any better on subsequent tries. If I hadn't lost my receipt, I'd return it. I guess now I'll keep it for an emergency, since it's handy and my only other options are to light it like a candle or throw it off a cliff.

Bottom Line:I use this pump with my Birdy folding bike (22lb full suspension 7 speed, and 3x7 speed). Given the small package of the Birdy, size and weight were my primary interests. I use a floor pump for normal inflating requirements. A frame pump is for flats. I've used this pump for over a year. It takes a bit of practice, but one can easily learn to get tires near full inflation, which is sufficient for flats repairs. I keep it in a small saddle pack. I've used it on a half-dozen flat repairs, works every time! The Birdy tire inflates to 85 psi (full pressure for this tire). While it takes many more strokes to inflate a tire than using larger and heavier pumps, it is well worth it as you rarely use the thing but ALWAYS carry a pump (so size and weight are more important than efficiency). It never ceases to amaze people when I show it to them. The small size and light weight are astounding! Buy it!

But the gauge is only viewable while the valve stem is at the 12-o'clock position, and that's not always convenient. I like the fact that the pump is all-alloy and supposedly rebuildable (dunno if CrankBros make parts available, though). It works well on lower-pressure MTB tires, but I can only get about 70psi on road tires before the head blows off the valve--no matter how tight I clamp it on.

The Dual Piston feature is super, makes it simple to get good pressure. I paid 20 US dollars for it and it was well worth it. Bottom Line:
Bought this pump a week or so ago. Have not used it on the trail yeat but it works great & fits in a jersey pocket. It is only 5 5/8 inches long with a pump head that is less than 2 1/2 wide. The stroke is only 2 3/4 . What is great about this pump is that it has two settings for choosing a wider piston for completely empty tires and a more narrow piston for putting in the last few pounds of air. It takes about 200 quick strokes to get up to 35-40 psi and another 60-70 with the smaller, PRACTICALLY EFFORTLESS strokes to add another 10-15 lbs. Another great feature is the head. One side is presta & the other is schraeder. To change from one to the other all you have to do is turn the head 180 degrees in relation to a collar right beneath the head. To change from the larger piston the end opposite the head has a cap which you rotate one way or the other. Very imaginative design. It's great because it fits totally inside a jersey pocket & stays clean. It looks like it will hold up well. Time will tell. Also tried it on a road tire. With quite a bit of effort was able to put 85 psi in a road tire. If you wanted to be a real minimalist on the road I guess it would be ok.
