Strengths:Smallest Pump I've seen that has working gauge. Works Simply and quickly for schrader and presta valves. Simple intuitive design
Weaknesses:I assume it could attach to the bike better as I found it while riding in the mountains
Bike Setup:Bontrager Privateer. Single speed.
Bottom Line:I seriously question the other sour reviews here. I found this on the trail and had to use it later in the day... on my truck. After about a minute looking it over and tinkering, I started pumping up my tire on the truck at the trail head (at ~10,500 feet). I started with the high volume setting and when that got to tiresome I switched to the High pressure setting. These guys (crankbrothers) are geniuses for coming up with this. Sure, it pumps slower, but you save your arms and energy. I got the tire up to full pressure and drove the 27 miles home just fine. This pump is sweet, it disappears in my pack, shirt, pocket and has saved my (and my friends) butt a number of times already. I've never seen instructions, but if you simply inspect the thing you will see that the gauge just has to be lined up with the corresponding valve type you are using. Obviously, it can only have one hole for air to flow through, you just need to line it up with what you are doing.

Strengths:Fairly stable design, feels quite durable in the hands, looks like it should be quite capable... The High Pressure and High volume options are rather neat... but why?
Weaknesses:Bulky and cheap bike mounting system, not very simple to figure out - comes with little/no instructions.. did not work as it should have... does not work at all with Schrader valves anymore...
Similar Products Used:Cheap Bell pumps, topeak pumps, Scott floor pump, Parktool floor pump...
Bike Setup:05 Stumpjumper Expert...
Bottom Line:A pricey little pump that doesn't hold it's own... It took me a couple hours to finally get it right... I cannot imagine that the Crankbros designers made a huge mistake - I think it comes down to the quality of some of the crucial parts inside... It worked on and off for a few weeks... I always carried two pumps in my pack and always wanted to give this one the benefit of the doubt so I typically turned to it first... It rarely worked with Schrader valves at first and would eventually let all of the air out.... It's OK with Presta valves, but I simply find it very unreliable and it probably will lose its place in my pack... Now it does not work with Schrader valves at all... I honestly tried to determine if I was doing something wrong, but if that is any indication - find something else... My $7 Bell pump I purchased 12 years ago is still ticking and reliable as ever.

Strengths:~Lightweight

~Great gauge

~Mounting hardware is less than adequate, I threw it away.

Bottom Line:While the product feels flimsy at best it does what it's advertised to do, pumps tires up to 40+ psi with ease.
The two pumping options work great too, you get the choice between high flow or high pressure. Takes less than a second to swap between the two whenever there's a need.

I had problems getting my tubeless tires up to the recommended 40psi, but after this arrived in my mail I managed to get the tire up to spec without breaking a sweat.

The gauge works great too, so much infact that I wish I had the same gauge my other pumps.

Bottom Line:Notwithstanding some reviews on this site I read, this pump works just fine. The high pressure/low pressure feature allows a quick pump up to over 40 pounds of pressure in several dozen strokes. I have found mine to be quite reliable; the only thing to watch is to keep the pump lined up straight on the valve while pumping and not let it move sideways, otherwise some air can escape. On presta valves, you can also screw on one of those dollar fifty schrader adapters, which makes the connection bombproof, although I don't find that necessary. Good product.

Purchased At:Another Bike Shop (S
Strengths:Mostly metal, high pressure/high volume switch, pressure gauge
Weaknesses:Pressure gauge gives inconsistent readings, the "simple" twist of the head isn't so simple. this pump has a hard time getting on the stem far enough to engage the valve
Bike Setup:Specialized Stump-jumper FSR with Grimeca hydraulic disc brakes
Bottom Line:Somewhere in the design process someone forgot that people may have to rely on this pump to get them back home without having to walk the rest of the trail out. The few times i REALLY needed a pump it worked, however my hands and my disc rotors always seemed to make contact with each other because the damn thing would rotate off when i tried to twist the shaft, but hey eventually it would work and the little bit of blood was worth not having to walk over 5 miles back to my truck. Then there was today, luckily i wasn't fixing a tire but just realized my rear tire was low, no big deal, i though. So i get the pump off my bike take off the valve cover and put the pump on the valve. As i was pushing the pump down onto the valve assembly the aluminum handle pops out of the plastic head. (WTF!) so i screw it back in and sure enough it pops out again destroying the internal plastic threads in the pump head, and somehow the internal pump shaft was bent. The pump was useless now but all i can say is im glad i wasn't changing a tire in the middle of a long ride.

Bike Setup:Hybrid
Bottom Line:This pump works, despite the negative reviews contained herein. At first it only allowed me to fully deflate tyres, but eventually I got it working (the wrong way) to put air in. It was after researching the Internet -and in particular, this site - (shame on you, Crank Brothers) that the penny finally dropped: attach the pump to the valve before turning to select valve type. That way it locks onto the valve, and makes inflation a breeze - well, after a bit of exertion.
Happy, now that I've figured it out.

Strengths:Fairly simple to push the pump onto the valve, whether it's schrader or presta. Plastic carrying case keeps the dirt out. I haven't broken it and it's hung out on my back for hundreds of riding miles.
Weaknesses:Useless above 30psi. The High Volume setting absolutely does not work. Hard to hold the pump head on and actually pump. Pumping from 0 to 30psi is fatiguing for a strong man.
Similar Products Used:Top Peak Sport floor pump, Blackburn frame pump, Specialized mini hand pump, a couple other pumps I can't recall the names of
Bike Setup:Various
Bottom Line:When you've patched a tube out in the middle of nowhere, tired, and go to pump the tube up, you would hope it would be simple and easy. This is not the case with this crappy pump.

With the pump attached to a wheel, I've ripped out the valve stem thanks to the ridiculous leverage you get when having to hold your hand on the pump head. And I was out on a ride on trail. ARGH!!

How hard is it to build a hand pump that easily attaches and actually can pump a tire to 45psi without being crazy difficult to push in?! I realize it's not a floor pump, but come on, the engineering involved can't be that impossible!

The high volume setting simply does not work: doesn't pump, doesn't push air into the tube, just there to annoy you when the switch gets turned as you're pumping away in vain on the high pressure setting. The Crank Brothers must not use the tools they sell on their own bikes, cause this product just doesn't cut it.

Bottom Line:Why the bad ratings?

It is a good pump, fits both presta and schrader well. It has a guage which is good for a rough estimate of where you are at. The directions are fine (maybe its newer packaging than some of the other ratings). It looks pretty strong.

Only possible improvement is it could use dual action pumping.

Bike Setup:2 Mountain bikes. Motorcycle valves
Bottom Line:The instructions on this consisted of a picture of the pump and three arrows. Which is appalling. Its not even as if their website provides any clues. Purely on that basis I will avoid crankbrothers stuff after this.

I think I have figured it out. Will try tonight.

You turn tyre so the valve is pointing down towards the ground.

Turn the dial section with arrows to point to the same direction the valve you wish to use is. Check that its blowing air by pressing thumb over the valve attachment and pumping.

Unscrew the valve attachment. Attach to valve. Screw to tighten (this is the bit I have doubts on, it never seemed to tighten correctly).

It should work now.

My problem is that its unclear as to the purpose of twisting the section with the dial on it. It only seems to blow air if its pointing in one direction. Maybe crankbrothers might have bothered mentioning this...

Bottom Line:Do not buy this pump. I bought it thinking that it could replace my floor pump. Big mistake. It takes 15 minutes at least to get to 30 PSI on my mountain bike 26"x2.3" tires. I've only gotten one flat on my road bike when I was averaging 100 miles a week, so I don't really plan on using it much again.

Specifically, the pump will do nothing for about 90% of the stroke, then the last 10% puke a little air into the tire. It only gets worse as the PSI increases.

Again, hopefully this will be a lifeline that will come in handy just once to justify its value. Right now, I find it worthless.

Gauge is probably accurate to the nearest 10 psi, worthless. This pump's nonfunctionality made me go to CO2 for a couple years, but now that I realize how much I drop on cartridges, I think I'll just buy another Blackburn Mammoth Mountain pump for $15. Similar Products Used:Mt. Zefal Graph 25, Blackburn Mammoth Air, Specialized Windpipe Shock
Bottom Line:The Power Pump Alloy is very impressive on paper, but real life usage is crippled by some severe flaws. The most notable problem is the loose chuck on Presta valves. It works semi-acceptably on Presta valves with a threaded stem (you can reduce the leakage if you take great pains in stabilizing the pump on the stem), but it is completely unusable on smooth-stemmed Presta valves. It will either lose more air than you put in, or slip off the stem. (I haven't tried using the Schraeder head, so YMMV on that one.) In terms of moving air, it is also subpar. This is because despite its mass and external dimensions, the actual pumping chamber diameter is only 19mm in "high volume" mode, with a stroke of 12.5cm. This is the smallest stroke volume of any shock pump I've ever used.

Weaknesses:Doesn't pump air into the tire--a fundemental flaw
Similar Products Used:Mt. Zefal mini double shot
Bottom Line:This thing is worthless. It seems well designed, but it's actually quite hard to grip while pumping and it simply doesn't inflate the tire. Yes, I read the (brief) instructions. My 10 year old zefal mini-double shot is lighter and actually works.

Also the mount seemed like a good idea. I like the way is totally encased the parts subject to contamination (I've corroded frame mounted pumps before), BUT it's pretty big and i couldn't really find a good place to mount it on my bike. Strengths:Presta & shraeder, pressure gague. High and low pressure settings.
Weaknesses:Pump head seperates from the aluminum barrel VERY easily. When pumping up a tire, I'll generally have to screw the pump back together 3-4 times because the damm thing falls apart. It's hard to get on and off the valve stem, especially shraeder. "High volume" is only good up to ~30 psi, and "high pressure" takes FOREVER.
Similar Products Used:Specialized mini frame pump - Half the price and twice as good.

Strengths:Cool looks, easy conversion between presta and schrader valve stems, high volume vs. high pressure settings
Weaknesses:Basically, the reverse of everything above other than the cool looks because it doesn't work that well.
Similar Products Used:Riding partner's no-name mini-pump that was at least 5 years old, worked much better than this thing.

Bottom Line:This product certainly looks cool, and it better for $30 retail. The problem is that its just too hard to use. Some of the other reviews have mentioned "looking at the directions," unfortunately the box does not come with any detailed instructions. More to the point, its a mini-pump, you shouldn't have to spend a lot of time figuring it out.

I would echo the comments below, the high volume mode makes it real tough to pump anything into the tube. And the guage is of questionable accuracy at best, especially when you are actually pumping air into the chamber. I tested the readings against my shop pump at home to confirm.

Bottom Line:I have had this pump break twice. First while my friend was using the pump I watched to check valve(a small piece of plastic) fly out and into tall grass. This caused all air to go back into the pump cyclinder and shoot back with force. The second time the twisting end piece that changes from high volume to high pressure clogged with a very small amount of dirt. In high volume mode it is hard to pump and in high pressure mode it takes lots of time to pump up a tire. In a race you would not want to come across stupid problems like these. I do not recommend this pump.

Fits both Schrader and Presta valves. Not too heavy when compare to some other pumps. Alloy body looks great and is very durable plus it is rebuildable!!
Weaknesses:None what so ever I have pumped up a bunch of tires and now all my buds steal my pump when they flat as well!Still it takes a little getting use to I suggest you try it out at home a few times before maikng it your one and only mini pump! Still it is a little expensive for a pump.

Bottom Line:Anyone who is having problems with this mini pump should try reading the directions that came with it and then try it out at home first to make sure you get the hang of it before throwing it you Hydration pack or on you frame and heading out to the trails!! This thing is AWESOME and I could not be happier with it! It is one of the best pumps I have tried in a long time. The Air flow switch works great when you are trying to pump the last of the air into your tire and your straining your arm to get that correct pressure. The gauge works good not a super accurate reading but good enough when your out on the trails and fixing a flat trail side. This thing is easy to use just press it on the valve twist it in the direction of the valve you are using and start pumping in dual action mode. When your arm gets tried or your tire is almost at pressure switch the air switch to single action and finish the job. Reinstall the tire and head on your way, see very easy and very quick. This is the best mini pump arond right now go get one if your having any trouble try reading the directions again, awesome Mini pump PEACE!

Bottom Line:I might throw this pump at someone I didn't like, I definitely wouldn't sell it to someone I did like.

I only purchased this pump because I was borrowing a bike from a friend that had presta valves and needed the dual valve capability. First time I used it (on a presta valve) it was ok although far harder work than my normal topeak pump (which costs half as much). I inflated two tubes with it. At some point the internal valving failed meaning that the tube pressure would force the pump handle to extend out of its own accord. The gauge also stopped reading pressure except at the end of the stroke. Tried inflating a schraeder valve with it and couldn't inflate it at all, even from dead flat. Returned it to the bike shop who said it had to go back to distributor for warranty work. Came back (after 2 weeks) from distributor who said it had been built incorrectly but it still works like a dog. Even on the slow high pressure setting getting anything above 40 psi is a nightmare. I could do that in my sleep with my old topeak pump. Thank god my new bike will have schraeders and I can use my old pump. Airflow wise the only two things I could say are "this pump sucks" or "this pump blows goats" for a pump maker, crank bros should stick to pedals cos this is an overpriced POS. And yes, I'm using it right, even the guys at the bike shop agreed it was FUBAR.

Don't even consider it.

If it's still working after 5 years I'll give it five flamming turds, but for now a solid eight total flamming patties. I'd recommnd this product to any able minded rider over 12.

Strengths:solid aluminum as opposed to plastic and not much heavier. Despite other's comments, inflates fast on trail and gets me up to good pressure. Note: you need to have fairly long valves and try at home first to see if valves are setup correctly. Otherwise, very happy with this product. At races I use CO2 but for general shore riding, this works well. Nice to have a guage that gets me in the right ball park when I'm fiddling with pressures for technical descents. I like the cover that keeps crap out of the head and an aluminum body is good if you need to smack a dog that takes a run at you.
Weaknesses:Fairly short stroke and had to take some time to figure it out; once you've got it setup correctly, it works flawlessly. Like all micro pumps, takes some arm work.
Similar Products Used:Just about everything
Bike Setup:Trek fuel 100, Norco Team issue with Manitou and XTR
Bottom Line:Hey all you whiners; its a mini pump! Use your floor pump at home or if you don't like pumping use a CO2 kit. The head works great if you put the correct side on the appropriate valve and you turn the pump the correct way. I have broken off too many flip up head tightening levers on other style pumps: I like the rotating head to tighten. Play with it at home in the dry and you will then have no problem on the trail. Too heavy as a race pump but a great and durable training, enduro type riding pump. My buds always ask for my pump now instead of using theirs!

Bottom Line:Sweet little pump. Works great. I have no idea what people here are saying. You just attach the pump to the valve, twist it, and it's stuck on the valve. Twist to High Volume mode and start pumping. After a fair number of strokes, when it gets too hard on your arms, switch to High Pressure and pump some more. 2.5 bar pressure is easily obtained.

It's not as good as a big sturdy garage pump with foot stand, but seriously, this thing is a fraction the size.

It's quite expensive, so value is not super. Otherwise it's a very good buy.

Crank Bros. claims this is serviceable, I haven't figured out how, yet
Bottom Line:I really like this pump, I've had to fix a flat on the trails twice since I've had this pump and each time it inflated my tires to operating pressure (45-50psi) in under 2 minutes without any excessive exertion.

I also filled up my friend's road bike tire from 20psi to 80psi in under a minute (more like 30-45 seconds).

The only negative I really find is that the bike mount sucks, so I carry it in my camelbak or backpack (depending on what I use that day). It's something I would always bring with me, so I'd like a nice mount.

I've attempted to take the pump apart for my own edification, but I can't see how to get it fully apart to change the o-rings, etc. Crank Bros. claims this pump is serviceable, so I'd assume I should be able to get at the internals. No big deal, we'll see how long this pump lasts before I have to toss it/fix it.

I would recommend this pump. It's a little expensive, but it works great.

Strengths:Nice metal construction. I bought this pump because I didn't want a cheap plastic pump. When you change from a high to low pressure setting with a twist of the knob, it gives a solid "click." Overall it feels like a solid pump. Not too heavy for a metal pump. I keep it in my Camelbak; I don't use the mounting bracket.
Weaknesses:The nozzles aren't that great. I have used it only a few times, but a lot of times it's hard to get the nozzle to fit onto the valve, whether it be presta or schrader. You'll put the nozzle onto the valve and start pumping and you'll hear a hiss from where air is coming out, but it's not going into the tube. Very annoying. Also, the gauge doesn't really work that great, and I can't get it to work beyond about 35-40 PSI, even after clicking into the high pressure mode and pumping continuously. After a while you just give up and guess tire pressure by feel, instead of using the gauge reading.
