Date Reviewed: October 3, 2008
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:lubricates chain, smells like bananas
Weaknesses:lubricates everything else with grime.
Bottom Line:this chain lube is cheap and works well but makes a bloody mess.

Triflow will never go onto my own personal bikes.

Prolink and Purple extreme are both better (cleaner) lubes. I am going to try a sample of squirt I received at interbike.

Favorite Trail:anywhere off pavement
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $7.00
Purchased At:Walt's Cycle & Fitness
Strengths:It does its job well: lubricate. I don't get any squeaks, even after 1 1/2 weeks after application. It also makes it look like you rode in black mud.

The thing is, this is a multi-purpose lubricant. YOu can lube more than just your chain, you can lube your cables, deraileurs, etc.
Weaknesses:Absorbs ALL the dust around the bike. Like some said, it's a super-strong dust magnet.
Similar Products Used:I haven't had any products like this one, a multi-purpose lubricant.
Bike Setup:mostly stock TREK 3900 hardtail w/ Atlus rear deraileur, Bontrager bottle cage, SRAM chain, and some other stuff I don't remember, or think are needed to be mentioned.
Bottom Line:It does its job, well. If you don't care abour cleanliness, and all you need is something that works, then this is the lubricant for you. It can lubricate many things, not just bikes. But, it absorbs all the dust in whatever room it's in.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $3.00
Purchased At:Budget (Used) Bike Shop
Strengths:drip bottle with a thin straw makes application easy, will stay on chain even after heavy rain (convinient for people like me that use bike to commute), affordable, bottle size will fit any seat bag.
Weaknesses:dust magnet?? but i have dust all over my bike.....
Bike Setup:Raleigh M30 2000, XT derailleur.
Bottom Line:i use it on my v-brakes and chain. chain will stay lubed even after heavy rain, will recommend to those who use their bikes for commuting purposes and do not have time to lube it whenever it rains. but i lube my bike every 2-3 weeks to keep the chain in good condition.

Favorite Trail:like the guy said: the one I'm on!
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $4.00
Purchased At:Olympia Cycle & Ski
Strengths:Cheap
Easy to use (drip bottle)
Lasts a long time
Doesn't get all messy - stays where I put it.
Weaknesses:Collects dust/dirt (what oil/lubricant doesn't??)
I would like it if the nozzle of the bottle was a little longer and pointier to make it easier to get into tight spots.
Similar Products Used:10w-30 oil
3-in-1 oil
WD-40 spray lubricant
Bike Setup:Sachs PC-51 chain, LX drivetrain (XT cassette)
Bottom Line:I haven't had a lot of experience with fancy lubricants, but then again, I'm not about to spend 30 minutes before EVERY ride cleaning, wiping, lubing, wiping, drying, and generally babying my chain. I'd rather be riding. I expect whatever lube I'm using to be easy and user-friendly. Tri-flow is. The secret is to use it sparingly - 1 drop per chainlink - no more. I do this about every third ride, depending on the conditions and where I went and what I did. I've been doing this for about 2 1/2 years now, and the chain, cassette, and chainwheels are still like new. I should also mention that I don't ride in the winter, so I can't offer an opinion about it's winter capabilities.

You know, it's not a crime to let your chain get a little dry now and then - the dirt flies off of it easier when it's on the dry side. I don't understand these people who lubricate their chain so much that they have to mop it up!!!! And then they complain that it's the chainlube's fault that it's collecting dust/dirt. Duhhhh.....go figure...you'd collect dust/dirt too if somebody dunked you in a bottle of chainlube. Relax. Enjoy. Ride.

Date Reviewed: April 7, 2001
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Will loosen rust from anything!!
Great on all form's of hinges
Smells good also not nasty like some
The mineral oil will eventualy dry but it leaves the Teflon
to keep on working
Weaknesses:Have not had a lot of luck with it on aluminum/magnesium alloy to steel corrosion
Similar Products Used:WD-40, Liquid Wrench
Bottom Line:This is the best stuff that you can buy if you can find it!
I find it best in spray form. The liquid is just as good if you give it time to work. Let the stuff soak for a couple of days if you need to, but it will do a fantastic job.
I recomend it to everyone that I know.I did the door hinges in my house three years ago and they still swing in a slight breese.

Favorite Trail:Downieville: Butcher's Meadow
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:Orchard Supply
Strengths:It's got teflon like stuff in it that doesn't wash off. So even if you think your chain is dry and all the oil is gone those invisible little long polymers are still working for you. It's also fairly cheap and easy to apply. Also comes in a spray can which is the best for SPD pedals. It's super easy to clean off when you need to and in the scale of dirt attracting products it's not too bad.
Weaknesses:Attracts dirt. I should probably try something else for muddy conditions but I haven't. Needs to be applied often- I do it every other ride.
Similar Products Used:Pedros, White Lightning, Rock and Roll lube, Bosheild's
Bike Setup:Ellsworth Truth, Shimano 9 speed w. Sachs (SRAM) chain, Shimano 545 pedals
Bottom Line:I love Tri-Flow. I've been using it for about 8 years. It started with motorcycles and now bicycles. I think it works reall, really well. It's long-polymer gimick isn't a gimick. It's basically the same stuff they put in Slick 50 engine treatment and even when the oil dries out or spins off the stuff is still working. I do have to clean regularly, but there's no residue like you get from waxes and cleaning is a snap.

The bottom line:
It smells the best. No other lube smells soooo good when you've been climbing for a half hour on a hot day. Tri-Flow heats up and smells like cooking bananas and I love it!

Price Paid: $3.00
Purchased At:Bike Shop
Strengths:Lasts long, and keeps grime from sticking. Cleanup is easy as road-riding!
Weaknesses:Between all my bikes, I usually run out when I need it most.
Similar Products Used:White Lightning... Just doesn't cut it!
Bike Setup:Giant Warp DS-1. Marzzochi shocks with Azonic cockpit.
Bottom Line:Great product with nothing to complain about. Keeps everything lubed very well, while protecting everything from the disasters of nature.

Date Reviewed: August 25, 2000
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Penetrates well, lubes what it needs to
Weaknesses:attreacts dirt
Similar Products Used:white lightning
Bottom Line:Works great on my brake bosses, derailers, clipless pedals, shifters, ect... but not for my chain, slings off fast, or rinses off in creek, also attracts more dirt than a group of hogs. but for lubing small areas, hard to get at, it can't be beat.

Favorite Trail:Ridge Trail
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Cheap, long lasting, keeps chain quiet.
Weaknesses:Attracts dirt like flypaper. Harder to clean chain than other lubes.
Similar Products Used:SuperLube, White Lightning, Finish Line Cross Country, etc.
Bike Setup:Cannondale Killer V-HT with Deore XT full sized drivetrain, 8 speed.
Bottom Line:If you're a clean freak, look to another lube. However, this is about the longest lasting lube out there (except for nasty lubes like 90 wt. gear oil). Try SuperLube. It's easier to clean and doesn't attract so much dirt and lasts almost as long. If you really must use it, get the drip bottle and one or at most 2 drops per link will do.

Duration Product Used:
3 months
Strengths:
Okay in wet stuff
Weaknesses:
Sucks in dry hot and humid-hot weather
Bike Setup:
98 Rockhopper A1 Comp FS
Bottom Line:I don't think I like this stuff in Ontario, especially since it's been so hot! It was great when I got it (the rain just wouldn't stop- strange for here) but now I find I constantly have to clean my chain etc and relube. It seems to attract every inch of dirt and dust -and the trails haven't even been that dry! Maybe it makes sense to use this in wet weather and something else when its dry or hot?
