There is NO other lube to use for adventure racing. The best test for any lube is riding 5 days in the thickest mud, dirt, rivers, sand, gravel, you name it. Prolink keeps the chain moving and keeps the entire drive train clean. It also lubes every other moving part on your bike. Strengths:
Super slick chain lube, great shifting and very low wear. After 10 years of riding and 4 years of using this stuff I'll confirm that it substantially reduces drivetrain wear. The only wet lube that doesn't collect gobs of fine dirt. Low maintenance, actually lasts longer and works better after 2-3 applications on a dirty chain than it does on a freshy scrubbed one.
Weaknesses:
Your chain won't gunk up but the derailleur pulleys will. It's a very solvent lube that deposits what would usually cake on the chain onto the first sharp turn it sees. Easy to deal with though, you just gotta watch it and scrape it off before it gets riduculous. Fair to poor static corrosion resistance - it'll dry out in 6 months or less on an unridden bike.
Similar Products Used:
Everything.
Bike Setup:
Cross country FS trailbike from the late 90's with many miles on it.
Bottom Line:
The positive reviews here go back for years, there's a reason for that. The "wipe chain, apply liberally, let dry overnight then wipe again" advice from 2002 still applies. Not the best lube for clean freaks who sterilize their drivetrains every othe ride, but for people who just wanna ride without worrying about their chain lube there's nothing better if you use it right and pay attention to caking on the pulleys. ProLink's claims aren't hype - in my experience, the stuff just works.

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
I've tried many different lubes and this is easily my favorite. It offers all the benefits of thinner dry lubes (Tri-Flow) and thicker wet lubes (Finish Line Cross Country), without the grease and dirt, or the build-up of wax lubes (White Lightning), especially in cold weather. It offers longevity than Tri-Flow, lubricates just as well, but there is minimal build up. I've used it regularly for over a year and I've never had to clean it. I just wipe it off before a fresh coat is applied.
The longevity is very good in dry weather, but in wet weather it does wash off somewhat quickly. But for a lube which offers effective friction-reduction with minimal build-up, this only a minor gripe. Hardcore mountain bikers will probably want a thicker lube, but for normal riders, Prolink is a great buy.

Bottom Line:
I highly recommend this product to those people that have been using Finish Line Teflon Dry Lube. It will be better!!! You can feel it right off your hands. It doesn't attract as much dirt and dust and it lasts longer. Now I don't even need to use the degreaser unless I have been riding in extreme conditions. Although I haven't tried it in rainy conditions, it feels like a lube between wet and dry. Also it's cheaper than Finsh Line. On the Finish Line Teflon Dry lube, the excess can not be wiped. If it is then you won't have a layer protecting oil on the chain which could lead to rust easily. You probably want to put grease on cables, not lube. Too bad Vancouver bike shops don't carry Rock n' Roll lube.(or do they????????????) A lot of people say it is better.
All I can say is that it will be good on long rides, so try it if you are a Cross Country rider. Buy it, road bikers, you will not regret. I'm not to sure about freeriders and downhillers but you can always give it a try.

Weaknesses:

Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
Dispite the weakness mentioned, ProLink is still many times better then White Lightning and other wet lube.
Works best when applied day before the ride, pour until dripping wet, let it stay for an hour, then wipe dry. Self cleaning during application.
Sorry guys, 1 chili off - Buttery smooth shifting and chain on 1st ride after application, but not quite so on the 2nd and third ride...where the chains start to feel scratchy. Most of my off-road rides are on hard packed, dry, sandy areas, maybe that's why. Doesn't attract dirt, but the lighter dust is a different matter, seem to scrub off or absorb the lube or somethin. Have to apply after 2 or 3 rides. On my road bike, seem to attract that black dust from diesel or gas exhaust, but require lubing after ever 3 to 4 rides.
Still a great chain lube, works great on my cleats too. I'm no fan of wax based lube, but I've just start using Rock'n'Roll and see how it performs by comparison. In the meantime, I have no problem recommending ProLink, and would go back it if Rock'n'Roll doesn't work out.

Performs well in dry conditions and does not cause gunk to build up over time. If you ride in wet conditions it will wash off -- reapply right away to prevent chain rust. I use Finish Line Cross Country lube if I know I'm going to be riding in the rain. No lube will work well in both extreme wet and dry, dusty conditions -- for wet conditions you need a wet, sticky lube -- in dry conditions the sticky lube will attract dust and turn into sludge. ProLink is great because it will flush out the sticky lube after the conditions turn dry again -- you never have to take the chain off to soak it or run it through a chain washing machine. Just wipe the chain down, put on the lube, wipe off the excess, and you're done!

You could never have enough of it! I'm always gonna be buying more it's so good.
Similar Products Used:
Pedro's Ice Wax, White lightning.
Bike Setup:
2000 Owl Hollow with Shimano XT drivetrain that was neglected till now.
Bottom Line:
This lube is clearly the best I've ever used for my chain. No exaggeration, but my drivetrain is really a lot quieter, it's virtually silent. And the shifts are so much smoother and quieter. I can't believe how good this product is. Don't judge it by its plain white bottle with the non-flashy lettering, the product speaks for itself, not the packaging. If you're disappointed by all the other lubes that don't seem to make much difference (i.e, a quieter and smoother drivetrain), just go out and try this one. And if for some absurd reason you don't like it, heck, send it to me!:) This stuff rocks.

Works well 3 seasons out of 4 minimal black gunk buildup
This is the best bike lube I have found so far. After I tried nearly everything on the market my LBS suggested this, and it works better than I expected. Nearly all lubes out there claim to remove old grease and gunk; that is merely a way to get you to waste half a bottle! Get an sram powerlink and it is easy to remove and soak your chain in kerosine or gasoline, the best way I know of to clean your chain. Powerwashing works fairly well too.
Still, this lube generates buildup like all the others. I wipe my chain several times after applying, and remove as much as possible. Prolink stays inside your chain better than anything else I know of, but on dusty rides theres no avoiding the black gunk. So for the summer I dip my [absolutely spotless] chain in melted paraffin and wipe off the excess. That will get you about 5 weeks of riding with a super clean chain.

Terrific lube!! Almost perfect. I have used it for about a month with no buildup of gunk. My chain is still perfectly clean. It lasts also-around 2 weeks for me. Also fairly inexpensive.
Weaknesses:
Don't know how it would fare in "wet" conditions.

super-low friction, cleans out old gunk
Weaknesses:
flip-top applicator is difficult to use, not the most resistant to run-off in wet weather
Similar Products Used:
Tri-Flow, Wrench Force/Castrol Wet Weather
Bike Setup:
currently a '96 STX-level 7-speed drivetrain with a SRAM chain
Bottom Line:
Overall, ProLink is the best lube I've ever tried. The first time you put it on a chain, don't wipe it off. Let it sit overnight so it can leech out more gunk. Then wipe it off before you ride. One time I didn't do that, and the chain went dry in a few days (20 miles). Also, if you can find the pen applicator to go with it--I think Nashbar carries it--you'll solve a lot of application problems. As a final note, I never found the smell a problem, but to each their own. Otherwise, just read the other reviews.

A great, clean lube that works in all conditions.
Weaknesses:
Stinks. No, I mean it REALLY stinks. Use outdoors.
Similar Products Used:
Most commercial lubes.
Bike Setup:
Shimano 9-speed XTR with Shimano chain.
Bottom Line:
Although it sounds like a late-night infomercial, this stuff really does work. Chain stays extremely clean, fairly quiet, and shifts well. Lasts 3-4 good offroad rides when used regularly. Comes in a GREAT applicator bottle (which is important if you've tried to use those crappy Pedros bottles). Slightly expensive but lasts a long time. Only down side is it smells like a toxic waste dump. Use outdoors in a wind and hold your breath. If you're sensitive to chemical vapours buy something else; otherwise this works for everyone, all year round, off road and on.

A FANTASTIC product that does exactly what it says it does!! Get rid of all your other lubes and use this for everything, deraileures, cassettes, chains, shifters etc. etc. Have one bottle only, get this while you can!!!!!!! Follow the instructions on the bottle and do it properly, lube each chain link and dont just squirt it on continuously while spinning the chain.
Keep the ground covered while all the old crap pours out, you don't want stains all over the garage floor!!
GET IT!!

Superior lube in every way -- works as advertised and then some. Applicator tip is adjustable.

Kind of stinkeroo, but that's better living through chemistry for you.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
I regularly ride on the grittiest surface in New Jersey, the tow path along the Delaware River. This fine-grade stuff clogs up the drive train like no other substance. You have never collected trail funk until you've ridden the tow path. ... Since I've been using this lube I've had remarkable success keeping the drive train tidy. The bottle tip twist adjuster makes it simple to apply to a chain (although you may want to devise some other way to lube anything that needs precise application.). Used sparingly, the stuff won't drip -- but instead will flow right into the guts of your chain. Although you can clean your chain with this lube, it's not a good idea if you're a first-time user and your chain is a mess. The fumes are rather unpleasant, and you probably shouldn't breathe this stuff for the length of time it will take to clean. Instead, degrease first with Simple Green, and then do the clean-and-lube routine with ProLink. ... I'm very pleased, and I'll make this my only lube!

a true livesaver!!throw away your other lubes and step up to the prolink. this lube does not quit, does not attract dirt and seems to work in any condition. here's a tip for your application problems (the standard tip may squirt a bit): when you discard your triflow, keep the tip and the little applicator tube, it fits perfectly on the prolink.

Bottom Line:
An excellent product. For the first application, you have to use a lot just to get the chain clean. ONce your chain is clean, reapply and let dry. It becomes a dry lube which makes your drivetrain extremely quiet. It does not get sticky nor get gunked up like White Lighting. Only downside is the bottle is very small and it goes pretty fast. It will also spray your rear wheel when you begin pedalling...just whipe it down. It will last through several wet ride and washings...it cleans as you ride.
