Strengths:
inexpensive, ltwt

none, for intended use/expectations EXCEPT the connections are non-standard and is intended for bar use (stupid dangling on/off switch!)

Bottom Line:
it is decent, nothing spectacular; good for entry into night riding as it is light, gives acceptable output, and inexpensive
Charger is ok, HOWEVER any battery user wanting to recharge out in the field (away from ac outlet) should buy an inexpensive DC-DC charger that runs off 12 Vdc: I recently purchased the ProPeak X-ING 4-7 Cell Digi Peak DC Charger, bought at hobbypeople.net along with add'l batteries from batteryspace.com ; Needed to Quick-Charge battery for night racing. Will update the performance of these products...

Strengths:
Long runtime of over 2 hours, Sturdy mount, has been very consistent and reliable without any problems.
Weaknesses:
Single 10 watt flood-pattern light isn't enough for fast downhilling
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
2003 Jamis Dakar Expert custom built
Bottom Line:
For the money, this is a great light, I am considering, however, switching to a 2 light system so I can have the freedom to choose between flood, spot, or both. I've used this light many a winter night and have had great rides with it, although I can say the limited throw-distance of the light does slow down my downhilling speed. I haven't had any technical probs. with it, though, it always works...For 40 bucks, I'm still thrilled to have it.

Great value, good light for the money.
Weaknesses:
Long charge time.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
Rocky ETSX 50
Bottom Line:
I have two of the 2004 models so I have interchangable batteries for 24 hour racing. The long charge time make this unavoidable if your going this route and plan on using it for 24 hour racing. While not bright enough alone for trail riding, when used with the Dual Pro on 20w, this is a fantastic set up. I was able to turn a 1:28 lap on the 24 hours of Moab course, so HIDs are not always required to ride at night.
This is a reliable, reasonably good quality, acceptable weight product for a really good price. You can find it on sale sometimes as cheap as $69 on line, and generally under $100. Given these qualities, it's worth looking into.

Used this only once (2003 Viewpoint EVO Single 10W light and 10W helmet light), but hope to use it more. Bright lights, good battery life (at least 90 minutes, did not use more but still seemed to have full brightness).
Weaknesses:
Charge time slow, extra cables (but worth it for such a low price).
Bike Setup:
2001 Gary Fisher Mt. Tam
Bottom Line:
Great light for price. Haven't had any problems or forsee any problems as people have said about the mount. Light needed little adjustment once set and worked great. Great for beginners and intermediate level riders. I do not know how these lights compare to the 300-400 dollar HID lights but I'm happy with these.

For the 2003 viewpoint EVO helmet light: Good light at a very good price.
Weaknesses:
For the 2003 viewpoint EVO helmet light: I broke a buckle on the velcro strap the first time I used it. The switch isn't on the light and must be mounted separately on the helmet. This is obviously just a bar light that they packed with a helmet mount. It must be mounted very high on the helmet to have the light pointing forward instead of down.
Bike Setup:
Trek 4500 with SPDs, panaracers, and a wtb saddle
Bottom Line:
A good light at a great price. This is sold as a helmet light, but is just a bar light with a helmet mount. As a result you get a small tangle of unnecessary extra wires on your helmet because there is an attached thumb switch that you have to mount separately.

Weaknesses:
Connections, On/Off switch
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
'03 Jekyll
Bottom Line:
I bought this back in '02 because it looked well-designed (made by Marwhi, I think), and the price was right. It threw out a really bright intermediate light pattern - perfect for technical singletrack. Initially it worked really well, but then I started having problems with the old round connections - the light would flicker on/off due to the faulty connection. I exchanged it for an '03 model, which also worked great for about 6 months. Now it will not shut off - the remote switch is toast. I'm going to exchange it for a Planet Bike Insight 15W. Performance has shown excellent customer service throughout all this.

Dont buy if if you want to mount it on your helmet. Thats what the box says its for....Do the guys who make these things ever actually ride???? why in the hell does a helmet mount light have a dangling cord for the on/off switch?! Where am I supposed to mount that thing? Maybe it would work on the bars. I basically just spent $109 on a 10 watt bulb. I used my old (vistalight) mount & case.

Good price and compact size. Clamps on to handlebar with no tools. Came with 15watt wide angle bulb; lots of wide "close-up" light but not too much distance. Will change bulb to a "spot" type for more distance. Maybe if I can find a 10watt spotlight bulb I'll have more distance and longer burn time.

Fairly good, cheap light. The turbo cat is about 60 bucks or so more, but, with a diff. bulb virtually the same. Runs about the same too. Suspect they both come from the same factory. Buy the turbo cat 6 degree spot bulb (6 volt). Looks like a projector beam bulb, 20 bucks. Dosn,t break easily, but no hucking at night boys!
