Excellent Light for the Money. It is nice to have a flood light to light up the woods and spot light up about 10 feet in front of wheel. Burn time is good I can get almost 2 hours using both lights.
Weaknesses:
Heavy Battery, I used it for 2 years years and then replaced battery with Lithium Ion 4800 mah. I used stock wiring and just put litium battery in water bottle battery holder. That dropped about a pound.

The price is right. The unit frequently goes on sale for half what the equivelent Night Rider goes for. Performance's return policy is one of the best in the business (no questions asked).
Weaknesses:
I have both the 02 and 04 models. The 02 model has a poor plug set up that allows the plug to fall out on bumpy trails. However, the 04 is a side plug that has never come out.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
This is not the Night Rider (NR) at twice the price, but you get more than what you pay for in many ways. I've now purchased two of these units, so I have two batteries (for 24 hour racing, this is a sweet luxury), spare bulbs, and spare switches for what the purchaser of the NR pays. That math makes sense to me because on a four person team, turning 1:26:00 to 1:32:00 laps, it's not realistic to expect your battery to get a full charge in the time between laps. As a result, you either have to milk you battery by compromising and not running 20-30 watts when you need it, thus turn slower laps, or risk going out with a partially recharged battery, hoping it took on enough juice to get you through.
The charging system is slow, 11.5 hours. I know NR is at a lot of 24 hour events, fast charging batteries for racers. Perhaps that is the way to go. But just like everyone eventually wanting to get an HID, we're not all made of money, and I'd rather start out with a $99 helmet mount and $129 bar mount than dump $250 into just one light to start out.
Overall, I'm happy with the performance. I get 2-3 hour burn times at 20 watts, occasionally supplementing with the 10w in the worst sections of the trail. Using both bulbs does tend to burn up the battery wicked fast (an hour, tops).

Bottom Line:
I bought my 2000 model with the 6.0AHr NiMH battery as a refurbished item from Performance. The first one had a bad battery that wouldn't hold a charge, but Performance gave me an RMA # and sent me a replacement one that arrived in 2 days. The second one seemed to be the newer 2001 model with a charger that has an LED power light, and a housing design that looks just like the Marwi Kamikaze. I swapped the bulbs around so that the 20W is on the main beam with the switch on the housing, and the 12W is on the remote switch. I melted 2 housing switches this way before realizing that the 20W bulb is too hot for this configuration. Replacement switches are made by Judco, part number 40-3979-00, and available at Digi-Key for less than $2 each. Unfortunately the remote switch isn't serviceable, so I'm thankful that doesn't fail.
Overall I'm very happy with this light set. The light pattern is adequate, and the mount allows rotating both lights side-to-side and each beam can be tilted up and down independently. The 20W is perfect for lighting up fast sections and descents when needed. Battery life is just over 1.5 hours with mixed 12W/20W operation, but the battery is probably 3-4 years old now and has several dozen discharge cycles on it.
The overnight charger needs at least 12 hours to recharge the pack. I've used a peak detecting NiCd/NiMH charger for radio-control car/airplane batteries and can cut that down to 3-5 hours using a 1.0A charge rate. Make sure to use a charger designed for NiMH or the batteries may explode.
I had to switch back from a plastic bottle cage to a metal one since the battery has a funny shape that requires an open-sided cage.
I'm now using the Viewpoint Dual as my backup light, now that I bought myself a Cygolite zForce HID NiCd.

Bottom Line:
I bought these lights as a replacement for my prior View Point Dual Pro, which weren't half bad lights (the ones that were mostly metal, with the grey water bottle battery), hoping that Performance would have improved their battery technology by now. Those batteries lasted about 50 charges, and when the battery died I brought it into Performance and they gave me a new battery without question or hassle.
So after the clasp mechanism broke and the second battery started to die at probably close to 50 charges, I bought the latest Viewpoint Dual Pro, which is a total regression from the earlier design: it's awkward with too many wires, looks stupid, and it's hard to believe but the battery lasted only about 10 charges. 50 I can kind of handle, particularly if Performance is good about replacing it. 10 is simply unacceptable. I was thinking of going to Performance and complaining, but I figured life would be easier to just throw it in the trash instead.
I'm going with Nightrider from now on. I actually also have the performance helmet mounted light, and it's battery life so far has been okay.
I guess Performance figures you are going to try night riding a few times and probably won't like it, so you won't notice how bad the battery life is.

I haven't had any of the connection problems experienced by other riders. as I think Performance may have taken care of this when they refurbished the light. I like having the high-beam at my thumbtip, which allows you to use it only when needed and conserve battery power.
Here's a great way to get the most from your batteries: Use an inexpensive headlamp (Princeton-Tec) to get you to the trailhead. When you REALLY feel like you need it, switch on your high powered lights. Go out and have your fun for a couple hours. In an emergency you have the Princeton-Tec to get you home. As an extra backup, you can carry a Petzl Zipka (under 2 oz.) that will run for about 80 hours on 3 AAA batteries.
If you can get one for a great price, you cannot go wrong. A 5 for value, a 4 because light output isn't HID. Someday.....

The wire connection is that you will find in Remote control cars, which gets loose easily especially if you do technical trails. I ahd the light shut off on me nearly everytime I ride. Don't get this light if you ride technical trails with exposure at night. I took it back to Performance again after 3months of use and exchanged for a Niterider. The battery is easy to install on the bike. It's a frame mount battery. The lights have a quick release mount that's easy to use.
I went for a 2.5 hour ride with a friend the other night and he just couldn't believe how much light this system puts out. I was impressed, too. There was so much light that I was able to go almost as fast at night as I do during the day.
Overall, I would highly recommend these lights. Just like Aaron, I only paid $140. That's the Team Performance Price. IT's still listed at that price, too. The normal price is $200 and $160 on sale.
Normally, I would wait longer to post, but I thought that I could post now, telling about ease of use and how well it works. I'm not as concerned about reliability because Performance stands behind everything they sell.

Next day the website had the price back at $159.99. I had preveiously used a dual niterider system. The lights never really failed me but I had to replace the batteries 3x in a years span. Not cheap batteries. Any way the redesigned 2003 models a a departure from the 2002 models because if NightHawk isn't making these for Performance then performance must be contracting the same manufacturer for the headlight housing design because these are the spitting image of their, Night hawks dual lighting system. The only issue I have with them is that in cold weather which we are currently experienceing here in the Greater Chicagoland area the batteries are running shorter thatn the advertised run time. I am told this is common with NiMH batteries. otherwise a 30 watt lighting system which performs as well as the Night Hawk version, which also seems to be getting good reviews, and the knowledge that if they fail me,Performance will back them up with great customer service and guarantee at what I paid rocks. I don't think better combination of performance 10 + 20 = 30 watts at $139.99 can be had anywhere.

2002 and prior models had problem with the switch. Mine for example got very dim when the flood and spot lights are used at the same time. There is also a bad connection for the spot light. If not for Performance's customer service I wouldn't recommend this product. However, they redid the whole light system in 2003. It's now in the store.
Bottom Line:
My 02 model developed bad connections after a year of use. I couldn't use the spot and flood light at the same time and the flood light is too dim to be used. The spot light changes intensity after I turned it off and turn it on again. I would have to keep turning it on and off to get the same intensity level back. This problem developed after an year of use. This week I was finally fed up with it and returned it to the performance store where I bought it. In exchange I got a brand new 2003 model. They redid everything from the battery to the light casing to the wiring. Hopefully I won't have the same problem again. I would buy the same lights from Performance because they stand behind their product. Not that their product is indestructable, the exactly opposite is true. The product is not as reliable as ones from other companies such as niterider which costs 200 dollars more. However, you know you will be taken cared of if anything goes wrong with it. They make up for it in great customer service and value. So, if you have a performance store near you and is cheap like me, buy this light. You can't go wrong.

See previous review from me. Received new light system. MariUSA replaced the 6.0 AHr batteries with 8.0 AHr batteries. This did the trick. Switching from one to both lights while riding worked flawlessly. Run times are accurate. If there is a weakness in the system, one might say its the type of remote switch and its location on the bar. But here's how I would respond to those issues: With regard to placement: Its not the fault of the manufacturer that they have to compete with trigger shifters, brake levers and all the other 52 gismos that a rider wants at his/her fingertips. The strap is long enough...find a place! I use the stem. Finger-tip control? No, but it's not a problem for me, and I really don't see that a rider coming down the trail in the dark should be wanting to switch back and forth. Start at the trailhead with both lights on if you're not familiar with the trail. With regard to the type of switch: the push button may not be the best, especially when wearing gloves (for winter riding). Have the engineers explored the toggle or slide switch route? Either way, we're talking convience here. The Dual Pro system is a fantastic lighting system. It gets the full 5 on top of the full 5 I gave it before. Thanks to Performance and MarwiUSA for getting it right.

I have not experienced the problems with the people at Performance as has one of the reviewers. (see 9/20/01 review). I do believe there can be someone at Performance (and probably no longer there!) that can create problems for customers, so while I believe the story, I feel it is very unique.
Folks at Performance are assisting me with a problem with the recently released, newly redesigned Viewpoint Dual Pro. The remote switch when turned on dims both lights. This is not suppose to happen....when a second "touch" of the switch is applied, the lights go full strength. The switch on the 12 watt light housing also can bring the lights back from a dim situation to fully lit. However, this situation worsens as the use time goes on. Eventually, you cannot bring the lights back to fully lit and have to resort to using only the 12 watt light the rest of the way home. I am having them replaced with a new set. Our best guess is that its the switches/wiring. I am interested in what others are experiencing with their new systems. If its a universal problem, this product will be returing to their makers by the truckload. No one wants to ride with the 12 volt light blazing....come into some traffic....switch on the 20 watt....then the lights go dim....no one can see you as you fiddle with the switches....best to just pull over. What are the rest of you experiencing with this newly redesigned product? By the way, all of the objections of the reviewrs seems to have been taken care of. I'm sorry it had to be me to get the bad set of lights. I will rate this a 5, pending resolution. I have high hopes for this lighting system.

I have been pleased with this product - I have had none of the problems mentioned in the other reviews with the power connector or switch mounting. The mounting bracket seems stable enough even for rocky descents, and the multiple adjustments make fine-tuning easy.
Weaknesses:
The only thing I can think of is that the unit does not appear to be sealed well in the event of use in wet conditions. I am primarily a "fair weather" rider, so I do not have firsthand experience with this.

Bottom Line:
I think that this is a very good light, particularly for someone (like me) who is just getting started in night riding. I also purchased the ViewPoint Pro Helmet mount light, which really helps on the trails, since it allows vision in the direction your head faces, not just the handlebars! I would recommend this if you want high performance without a high price tag.

Looks good, but they failed to deliver it to me.
Weaknesses:

Bottom Line:
Exasperating experience dealing with PerformanceBike . I saw a display model at their Tustin, CA store. Couldn't purchase it as they were out of stock. Sales clerk asserted that I would have to pay for it and have it shipped in order to take advantage of the "limited" time period sale price. Was adamant that the sale price was not available for on-line purchase.
Well, "sale" price is offered on-line and "expiration" period for special price seems indefinite (passed deadline mentioned by sales agent). So, I ordered on-line. Received an automated e-mail acknowledgement of the order, but no info regarding shipping status. They dinged my credit card the next day. Ten days later, no package. Send e-mail to customer service dept. -- no response after 48 hours, so I phone. Snooty girl demands that I give her my CC# to reference my order. Sorry, but I don't disclose this sensitive info via insecure phone/e-mail/web site/etc.
What about the order number, can't you reference my order with this? "No, the order number changes." What..? Wait another few days -- no package. Call again, another dummy. Send fax to CEO. Ignored. More e-mail to customer service requesting delivery status. Mention that they should index their orders via customer number. I can login into a password-protected account area on their web site to review my order history and order details, but no parcel transit status info. All I receive is a flippant "thanks for the suggestions, let us know if we can assist you further..."
Excuse me -- how about letting me know when I may expect my package, as it's going on two weeks now...
Cry uncle. Going through the process of having my bank reverse the credit card charges. Ineptness of this company rivals some of the worst examples that I've endured. I spent hours begging, but no cigar. Back to square one. Usually I buy from Bike World , but I went with PerformanceBike as I wanted these lights. I learned from another reviewer on this thread that MarwiUSA is the actual manufacturer (no flash URI). They don't sell direct, so you may have to order from a local dealer. Or try *your* luck with PerformanceBike...

Good light for the money if you are a casual night rider. I rode 1 night per week most of the winter, burned out 1 bulb. I rode rain, or dry and had no problems with shorting out or wiring coming apart. I even did a head plant right on the helmet light, it held up much better than I did. The handle bar lights and switches mount quick and easy and stay put.The batteries held their charge for the advertized time per watt of usage, but if you are a serious night rider or night racing spend the bucks for top of the line. Night Rider throws a whiter light, it illuminates better, at over twice the money per watt it damn well better! NOTE! when changing the bulbs in View Points make sure to align the wiring properly in the light housing, pay attention to the wiring arrangement when you take it apart! When you tighten up the mounting ring make very sure you don't twist the bulb around in the housing and mess up the wiring, or only partially tighten up the ring!

During the race, i went over the bars a few times from going faster than i could handle under slick rooty, rocky technical sections. Not once did i have any problems considering the rough treatment i put them through. I ride the lights mounted on my helmet with the battery in my camelback. I ride these lights 2-3 times a month and have never had any problems or complaints with them. I plan on purchasing a single beam helmet mount view point pro to run in conjunction with my current dual set up on the bar for snowshoe 2001. Basically, if your pockets aren't the deepest and you don't require digital battery displays, etc... the viewpoint pro series lights do a great job at a reasonable price.

Horizontal adjustment bolt needs a washer. Vertical adjustment star washers are too coarse.
Similar Products Used:
Niterider Digital Headtrip
Bike Setup:
Used on both asphalt and dirt.
Bottom Line:
The Dual Pro doesn't have a zillion settings like a some lights, but the two settings are adequate, and the lights are both inexpensive and light. I've had a single version (lead acid battery) of this light for two years and it's been bullet proof. It shares all the same connectors and housings and such, so I would expect this new set to be equally reliable.
One thing the manufacturer left off was a washer on the bolt that controls the rotation (horizontal aim) of the set. Without a washer on the bottom, it isn't possible to create enough friction to keep the lights from inadvertently rotating when turning on the spot beam. There is what appears to be an intentional recess for a washer, so I can't figure out why it wasn't put in at the factory. With the washer, it can be tightened to perfection.
As well, there are two star washers that control the vertical movement of each light. The washer teeth are too coarse, so the light tends to gravitate back to the indents in the plastic that were created by the washer. However, that is easily remedied with a vise or hammer. Once flattened a bit, the washers work perfectly - it's possible to adjust them so that the lights can still be moved, but tight enough that they don't move while screaming downhill.
Overall, while the mounting bracket looks flimsy, it actually works quite well. It's easy to adjust, and it goes on and off very quickly. The one on my old lead acid Performance light has held up just fine.
While the lights are not waterproof like a Niterider - you wouldn't want to dump them into a creek, they've worked just fine for me when it's wet outside.
One very cool unintended feature is that the 20 watt flood can be flashed at cars when it's turned on. The switch is very sensitive and the light goes off when the switch is despressed very lightly, and then comes back on when the switch is released. I've used it to freeze cross traffic like a deer in headlights.
While I can certainly see room for improvement, these lights seem like a heck of a deal for 32 watts of power in a 2 lb package.

Economical price for a NiMH system. Dual lights, with remote switch for second light. Quick release mounting
Weaknesses:
The attachment method (velcro strap and small piece of rubber underneath) for the remote switch is very lacking. I have shift indicators on my Shimano's and therefore I can't tighen the strap at a place close to my thumb, I have to tighten it then slide it down. Doesn't hold to the bar well, tends to like to slip around. They should have made it like the light mount.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
For the price you can't beat the light. I ride with a friend that has Niteriders and I put out as much and more light than him (although he can change the powerlevels-digital).
At first I was really skeptical of the mounting bracket for the light on the front, it seemed so flemsy and thin. And didn't understand what the purpose of the second axis of rotation for adjustment was. But after a collision with a tree that spun the light all the way around, I realized the reason for the other adjustment (keeps from breaking the light in a wreck alone with allowing you to put it on bent back bars). The mount held, spun on the handle bars (which it is supposed to) and did not break. I became even more pleased with the lights.
Also the dual lights are individually adjustable, this is VERY usefull. I have my 20 watt bulb pointed more upward (high beams) for fast trail riding and wired to the remote switch in case I need to "dim" them for on coming traffic.
Very fine light, worth it's money. And you save from paying as much for Niterider and get to buy something else for you bike!

Bottom Line:
This is a review for the Nightpro Kamikazee light, made by Marwiusa who makes the Performance lights. The Kamikazee is the same as the Performance Dual-Point Pro except in black not silver. This light is a deal for anyone who wants to give night riding a try, and try it you should. The beam pattern is equivalent to those found on much more expensive lights, aka nightriders. One negitive point, ...Marwiusa does not offer a choice between a bottle or a frame mounted battery. However, I have yet to shake the bottle battery out of the cage. The battery has a flat side that seems to hold it in the cage better than the round bottle batteries. Some reviewers conplained that the power cord connector seems to seperate during a ride. This happened to me on the first ride but all I had to do was run the power cord under the velco band that holds the beam switch in place. This keeps the connector from vibrating loose. The mounting bracket could be beefed up a little more. However, the fall required to break the mounting bracket of the Kamikazee would bread any lights bracket. I has a very cool quick release.
Overall, this light performs as well as any of the lights on the market for around a $100 less. I work in a shop so I only paid $109 for the light set but I would have paid $200 for it if I had know how much fun night riding is. Marwiusa's customer service is great and all parts are repaceable. I think Performance is selling the same one for $179.00 right now. I have yet to ride with it in the winter so I cannot comment on wet, cold conditions.
Five Chilis for Value, Four Chilis for Overall just because of the bracket and connector, no big deal but I'm a perfectionist.
No it does not have a digital battery-life display but who needs that anyway??
Buy it, have fun.

I got the light for $179. My friends Nightrider has a little bit more coverage on flood, but the Performance light throws more light down the trail due to the individually adjustable lights. The housings get a little warm due to the dichroic reflector, but it will probably make the bulb last longer due to reduced heat build up. I think it is a good light for the money, no fancy led's, just a good basic light for those who ride after dark. No problems with the connector, just takes a few seconds to connect/disconnect

Took a chance on this light to replace my aging 530 Vistalite. As bright as my buddy's Niterider Dual Classic with no eerie shadows or pixels, just clean white light, and only $180!
The mounting bracket was functional but weak looking, so I replaced it with the much stronger(and easier to use)clamp from my Vistalite lighthead, which allows fo the pair of beams to still be centered over my stem, but isn't made out of cheese.
The connector is made of really hard plastic and is a b:tch, but I haven't modified it yet; maybe soon. It works, but it IS hard to pull apart.

These lights are both good and bad. First of all they are very bright. They come with 12w spot light and 20w flood light. The 12w is bright enough by itself. When both are turned on it turns the trail into daylight. However with both lights on, your runtime drops to about 1 hour. Mounting of the lights is great. They have a quick release on the handlebar mount. The lights rotate up and down independently and turn left and right as one unit. The waterbottle battery has a funky shape. For all of you pansies out there complaining that this battery doesn't fit in your bottle cage because it is square.....get over it. It fits perfectly into a standard water bottle cage. Not only that, but because it is square, it will not rotating in the cage.
Now the not so good. The male/female connector is a pain in the butt to hook together. A little triming will cure this though. The wire leads that go into the housing have a tendency to get pulled out because the connector is so hard. The insulation on the wire will pull away near the gromet at the hole of the housing and will allow water into the wiring.
Otherwise for the price, I paid 180.00 for mine. Cheap compared to 250.00+ for some of the other systems. They are a good starting set.

The first light I bought lasted about 15 rides untill one night the beam started coming in and out and I was forced to cut my ride short to discover that the power cord had developed a loose spot at the connector. After returning this light for an identical replacment, I decided to spread open the female end of the connector so that it could be pluged in and taken apart much easier. This worked and I was happy- so happy I decided to go for a late night run on my favorite loop. Well, 6 miles into the very wet and cold ride I had the joy of a bulb blowing. Out of fear of another faulty wiring harness I cut the ride short again and trucked it home. I blam the light and I blame myself. The aluminum casing might seem nice but once exposed to cold and very wet conditions the dramatic tempature change makes the light sizzle and -poof -there goes your bulb. If you stay out of severe mud or rain and modify the connector this light should serve you fine. If you ride alot at night and don't mind spending the extra cash, a Jet or either a NightRider are more suitable.

The light housings are aluminum and made by Marwi and not el cheapo plastico like most. I paid $179 for my lights which is HALF the price of the Jet Dual beam. I took the battery out and put it in a screw-top water bottle that a bike first aid kit comes in. Same bottle as Nightrider. The Performance bottle looks goofy. If you switch bottles on any system be sure to drill teeny holes to vent the battery. Four flaming dead squirrels.

After 3 years of commuting I decided to replace my trusty single beam NightRider. I decided to the redundancy of two lights would give me an extra margin of safety if I blew a bulb. The Performance light seemed to fit the bill. Initially I was very pleased with this light. Then I acutally tried to use it. The power cable connection was very difficult to plug and unplug. At least I would not have to worry about it coming disconnected. The light output was excellant-clean, bright white light. The beam pattern would have been excellant for the tight single track that normally ride. On my second commute with the light (on a steep 35 mph down hill naturally) both lights went dead scaring the crap out of me. (My NightRider never did that) Wiggling the connector got the lights working again. On the following ride the outages became more frequent and the amount of fiddling required to get the lights functioning increased. Needless to say the Performance light came off the bike and the NightRider went back on. I thought that my light might be an isolated incident- but I have since to two other people who have had similar problems. So the Performance light is boxed up and ready to be returned for a refund. It is a shame- This light has alot of potential but is spoiled by a 50 cent wiring connector. If it had worked I would have rated it four chilis, but since it was so unreliable I can only give it one.
