Strengths:    Durable. Proven battery technology. Great value.

    Weaknesses:    Heavy.

    Bottom Line:
Great value. Uses a gel cell, which is very dependable if used correctly, but heavy. Definitely get the smart charger; it's a trickle charger that's worth the investment cause it saves your battery. Light themselves easy to mount, and I've used mine off the bike for all sorts of stuff. Gets about the amount of time out of the battery they claim; it's definitely not as high zoot as some of the NIMH or other stuff out there, but it's cheaper and dependable. If your normal riding falls within the time limits claimed for the battery, and you don't have to shave weight, this is for you.

I've had good experience with their customer support. Prompt delivery and help on their web site.

    Who knows?

    Weaknesses:
    Customer service

    Bottom Line:
I want to submit this review based on customer service. I ordered a Nite-Hawk Viper
light on Dec 12 1999 and as of this writing I have yet to receive this light, it is now Jan 11
2000. When the first light that was shipped to me had not gotten to me in 20 days I called and asked that another be shipped. Customer service said they would ship one out to me immediatley. I called today and was told that the light was scheduled for deliverey tommorrow, Jan 12 2000.I have gone to the UPS tracking site and learned that the replacement light was shipped
GROUND TRANSPORTATION. If I had a customer that had been waiting for my product for a month I would have had the courtesy to at least expedite his order.I think this says volumes about their customer service and I don't care if the light is the best one made I will never buy another product from them as I understand they are not interested in getting the product to me in a timely manner and they are not concerned with my opinion them.

    Bottom Line:

After a *terrible* experience with a (borrowed) NiteRider Dual (2, count 'em 2 broken handlebar mounts!), I went out and bought a Nite-Hawk Pro for under half the price. What an excellent value! $188 CDN ($125 USD) gets you:- two headlamps (10W & 20W) (although 2x12W would be *ideal*--subtract one star)- breakaway handlebar mounts (that snap back in if/when your crash--add one star)- a helmet mount (that fits either the 10W or 20W lamp)--add one star- thumb-switches for easy on-the-fly light selection--add one-half star- a 4 Amp-Hour 12-Volt Sealed Lead Acid Gel Cell (75 minutes @20W, 2 hours 20 minutes @10W)--subtract one star for battery life.- a smart charger so you can recharge at any time and have it always topped-up and ready to go--add one *big* star (a friend of mine got a cheaper model with a regular charger, treated the battery like a NiCad, and now only gets half the life out of the battery after only 2 months of use. The lesson: go for the smart charger!)--add one star- excellent price (or did I mention that already ;-)--add one big star.- great support from the manufacturer (http://www.nite-hawk.com). Was having a problem with an intermittent connection on the helmet cable. Phoned them and they immediately shipped me a free (improved) replacement cable--no questions asked.--add one star
So, starting with a neutral rating of 3 stars, and adding/subtracting for all the points above, that gives them a rating of: 6-1/2 stars (hmmmm...)Guess that works out to 5 stars. More expensive light sets may be slightly better, but for the money Nite-Hawk Pro can't be beat.Cheers,
    .../j
