Light & Motion Seca 1700 Pro Review

This used to be the Seca 400 and last year it grew up to be the Seca 1400 with 1400 Lumens. It was plenty bright but the price was too much at $700. This year, they increased the brightness and efficiency to put out 1700 Lumens in a beam pattern that puts the light where you need it. They dropped the price to $469 so the Lumens per dollar now tells a very compelling story. But the real story is still the beam pattern as much of the light is pointed to the ground and the sides. Very little of the light is wasted into empty space. Continue reading →

Strengths:    Bright, L&M is well known to make high quality lights

Weaknesses:    Run time, after awhile you are lucky to get 1 hour out of the battery, but typically you can easily get away with running at the medium brightness.

Bottom Line:
It's a good light, I have the older Seca 900. It seems they changed the beam pattern as my 900 is much tighter and has significantly more throw than the 1700 even though it's almost half as many lumens. The 1700 makes a great flood bar light, but a horrible helmet directional light. I do think the older units were a bit too tight, but I think they went too far to the flood on the 1700.

Strengths:    Light weight, great flood pattern, extremely bright, easy attachment, large on/off/brightness switch.

Weaknesses:    Glad they make the enduro battery pack for longer run times. The light only lasts 1.5 hours on high with the race battery and 2.5 hours with enduro battery.

Bottom Line:
I've been really happy with this light. It has a great flood pattern that lights up everything around you. It comes with an optional helmet mount and both bar and helmet mounting options are extremely easy to use. I would absolutely recommend this light.
