from Austin, TX Date Reviewed: November 9, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Easy to read, big numbers Easy to set up and change your upper and lower ranges Accurate measures, no gaps or unexplained fluctuations (although I have never used it with a wireless computer, which may affect it) | | Weaknesses: | Difficult to change screens (between HR and time) when it's bar-mounted. bar mount is not easy to use. Not as many bells and whistles as others | | Bike Setup: | late 80s raliegh technium with a mediocre Shimano group | | Bottom Line: | This is a no-frills HR monitor, but I don't think I would have the patience or really need to figure out the features of other more complicated monitors. If you're basically interested in how long you spent within your target range, it's a good monitor. The bar mount is just a big piece of rubber that wraps around your bar, and you have to buckle the monitor around it. It's a little trickier than it sounds, and not as easy as just clicking the HR monitor into place or something like that. Not a big deal, though, since you probably have so much junk on your bar there's no room for anything else. You'll appreciate this story: about the time I first started using the monitor, I locked my bike up one day, downtown, careful not to leave anything disattachable on the bike, except for that rubber bar mount, a non-descript black piece of rubber. When I came back, it was gone. | Overall Rating: |

The price is about half, the readout is clearer, the batteries are easily changed! Man! You gotta be nuts to buy a Polar! | Overall Rating: |

from Australia Date Reviewed: July 11, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Strengths: | Value for money Good looks | | Weaknesses: | Strap | | Similar Products Used: | Polar | | Bottom Line: | Great HRM, Has everything I need and nothing I don't. Batteries can be changed in transmitter by anyone (unlike Polar), Waterproof and not bad looking (unlike cheaper Polars). The bike mount also works really well. I used a friends top of the line Polar last week and it didnt perform as well as mine, gave erratic readings and reading dropped off a lot. The only thing I didnt like was the strap, but thats personal taste and something cheap to replace. | Overall Rating: |

from Vancouver, BC Date Reviewed: July 5, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Whistler | | Duration Product Used: | less than 1 month | | Strengths: | low cost and ease of battery change | | Weaknesses: | none so far | | Bike Setup: | Olmo (Columbus G) racing bike with full campy Giant ATX-780 with Marzocchi Z.3 lite | | Bottom Line: | I bought this HRM for $98 canadian, which I noticed a company was selling from their ad at the back of TV guide. The reason I bought it was because, it came with a bike mount and is water resistant! And you can change the battery on the transmitter, something you can't do with Polar easily. And besides, it's MUCH cheaper than a comparable Polar or Cardiosport HRM unit. I took it mainly for cycling and the high/low limit is a great addition for training to improve my cardio zone. I will definitely recommend this to anyone as best value for the buck. | Overall Rating: |

I used it during a stress test with my doctor and it registered within 4bps of their equipt. Last week I had a race on Sat and when I got to the small town that the race was in I noticed the battery for the HRM was dead. I had an hour so I thought I'd try a local grocery store to get a battery. They had the battery(very common) and it only cost $1.83. The batteries can go dead every other month for that much. Great HRM, great value. | Overall Rating: |
