Strengths:    Ease of use, accuracy, full color maps, programmable data fields.

Weaknesses:    Smallish screen for maps but thats why its light

Bottom Line:
I use this unit for all types of outdoor activities including mountainbiking. It is nice and small on the handlebars.I love it for training purposes. When uses with a computer you can track progress and improvement down to the finest detail. Total climb, average speed, moving vs total time and put them in programmable fields so you can keep track while riding to improve pacing. Also using map function you can set up your favorite rides into tracks and set laps. When paired with a computer you can download and create custom maps. I have installed alot of local topo maps and some grouos even have created downloadable overlays of their trail systems. You can also map your favorite unmapped trails. Battery life is pretty good even when using generic AA's. Water/weatherproof makes this a good unit for our use too. Garmin's handlebar mount seems flimsy but the unit is pretty light and I havent had any trouble yet

I don't care about cycle computer stuff like speed and distance, I just want ... Read More »

Yea or nay, that's the question. With a poorly marked stage race coming up later next week, I'm wondering whether I should spend Saturday night giving into to upgradeitis. In short, I only use my Vista for navigation. We generally spend a couple of evenings each biking trip making tracks to ride ... Read More »

etrex vista hcx vs dakota 20

I heard that the vista out lasts the dakota on battery life but if you only use it on the road periodically, and keep the device turned off most of the time....does it really matter? Even though the vista gets more battery life, the dakota has a bigger screen and is easier to use, so that would mean ... Read More »

Garmin eTrex Vista HCx not acquiring satellites

Anyone have similar problems to this: I just bought a new Vista HCx a week ago and it worked perfectly then. However, after taking a flight and carrying the unit with me on board, the Vista HCx is stuck on the "Acquiring Satellites" or "Locating Satellites" screen, with no hint of any satellit ...
