What is the purpose of the Stan's notubes tape in a tubeless setup? Is it necessary to use the tape on tubeless ready rims? If so, then why are are the rims called "tubeless ready" and how are they different from rims that are not?

Just converted to Stan's last night. My rims (SunRingle Black Flag Pro) have the BST so doing the conversion took all of 10 minutes per tire.
