Strengths:-Looks good
-Keeps mud out of your eyes
-Price
Weaknesses:-The mounting bracket doesn't work on Marzocchi freeride forks
Bike Setup:06 Kona Stuff w/ ODI grips, WTB saddle, Axiom flat pedals.
Bottom Line:This is a good fender. The only complaint I have is that I had to make a custom mounting bracket for it because of the crown on my marzocchi drop-off fork.

Simply put the 4 bolts/nuts (Plastic -No more rust nor weight issue)and tighten main bolt which in turn will pull itself tighter into fork assembly. Stops all crap from hitting face. It does what is made to do.

Strengths:I have both frt & rr fenders & they do their job fairly well & look great!
Weaknesses:The #1 weakness for me is the rear fender mounting bracket! After putting the rear fender on three different s-posts the weak, plastic-mount broke & i've had to "Rig-it!" Does T.H.E. moto fenders have a website?! Front fender wants to be squeaky! & will twist on you in crash...but, better that's than breaking & you can twist'em back!
Bike Setup:20" Access, RaceFace crnk, avid mech's, Mavic 223&Panaracer's, SRAM 9.0SL shifters & rr dr, shimano xtr frt dr, shimano ti cass., thudbuster after thompson elite, etc.,
Bottom Line:The S-post bracket is a big weakness for me & you must be very careful in how much you tighten it!! or the screw will go right through it!! But, other than that & a little sqeak upfront, i really like'em!!

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:Dale's Bike Shop
Strengths:Keeps water, mud, and rocks off of you. Takes crashes well because it is so flexible. Very light weight. It does not get in the way of my front suspension fork.
Weaknesses:The price is way too high. The bracket that holds it in place bends way too easily so if you crash you might wind up with the top part of the front fender out of line with the bottom part, but hey, just bend it back.
Similar Products Used:My big wide behind and my Kool-Aid smile face.
Bike Setup:trek 4900, all stock.
Bottom Line:It does the job. I get alot of compliments on my bike because of the fenders (not that I care about stuff like that). I used to ride alot without fenders and as a result, got alot of mud on my backside and water on my face. So when I purchased my new bike in July I told the bike shop owner that I had to have fenders. He only carried T.H.E., so that is what I got.

I was not too happy with the price just like everyone else, and I thought that they were a bit too flimsy. But when I had a couple of major crashes (on one ride, I split my helmet in two when I endoed over the handle bars)and just about nothing happened to the fenders. I began to appreciate the fact that they are so flexible. I now think that the fact that they are so thin and soft are actually in their favor.

I think everyone should have fenders, why most mountain bikes are made without fenders makes no sense to me. Especially when you consider how muddy and wet mountain biking can be. However, even though I really like my fenders, they are too expensive. They should only retail for $15 to $25, rather than $35 to $40. Because of the price, I cannot strongly recommend this product even though I am pleased with it.

Strengths:Looks cool, keeps water, mud, dead animals off. Customer service.
Weaknesses:Price.
Bike Setup:Two wheels, handlebar, seat
Bottom Line:This is a follow-up (foul up?) review. Apparently after reading my previous review, THE got in touch with me and informed me that there's been a revision to the bracket and mounting stud - lo and behold, there was a new bracket and stud in my mailbox two weeks later. The new bracket works as advertised - no more banging on the fork brace. The original star-fangled nut thingie was a good idea - IF you had the proper tool to install it, but the new setup is an expanding rubber sleeve. (I didn't try it since I fought and swore so much to get the nut IN, I wasn't about to try and get it OUT! The rubber mount might also help with the vibration issues some people are having).Three flamin' turds for value (it *IS* still pricey) Four for Functionality and Stylin' and five for customer service.

OK, I am supposed to send them the old one AND pay for shipping on a replacement?? totaling 1/2 what the fender cost in the first place? Strengths:-Looks good

Weaknesses:-Couldn’t be any thinner
-Poor mounting bracket construction
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:-99 GT Xizang dream bike, -00 Scott Team Racing Limited
Bottom Line:I agree with others on this site about the flimsiness of the plastic. But to its defense might be mentioned that this could contribute to the fenders forgivingness on hits (instead of breaking off…) and that this also brings down the weight of these things. What I’m not to crazy about though is the mounting bracket needed to assemble this unit to your suspension fork. It doesn’t work out of the box! I have two different forks: a -99 Manitou SX Carbon and a -00 Rock Shox Judy Race, and two different THE Front Fenders bought one year apart. Neither of the two fenders fitted the forks. Both fenders mounting brackets were in the way of the fork brace and its travel. The fork braces simply hit the brackets long before the fork bottomed out. Solution: cut material from the brackets and weld them together again. C’mon Toby, I’m not on the payroll of your R&D department, I shouldn’t have to do this sh*t! At least get the construction right before you get these things to market, and if you don’t get it completely right at first, at least learn from error and improve… Other than this drawing board flaw, they are pretty cool and work well.

Bottom Line:Just read my own review. I haven't actually broken or even bent mine yet but I haven't had any crashes worthy of my ability to crash hard.(I broke the GAS TANK on a '92 YZ250 at Pismo 3-4 years ago). My point is that if I should happen to break it's unlikely that I will buy another complete assembly as the bracket and front and rear halves should be available individually if T.H.E. thinks it's going to survive as a company.

Bottom Line:Got this as a gift (bless her!)- I was convinced I wanted one just because it *looked* so moto, and justified wanting one by saying it would keep water off the front tire out of my eyes. In reality, it's a pretty cheesy unit. The star washer thingie broke when I installed it (ever tried swinging a hammer between the fork legs without hitting the fork brace to drive one of those stupid things in)? The directions were a joke - in hindsight, I should have taken the fork off and put it in a vise (I mounted my bike vertically in the work stand) and used a deepwell socket to drive the washer in). The fork brace hits the mounting bracket at full-squish - the directions say "if this happens to bend the bracket" well if I bent it enough to remedy the problem, the front fender would be pointing almost straight UP! And what's up with having to stick the plastic support braces in? For forty bucks it ought to at least come with THAT assembled. Toby Henderson is on my sh*t list!

Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Heckler
Bottom Line:Unless it's wet and muddy this is a cosmetic accessory that looks stupid with less than 4" of travel. Great addition to any front end on muddy days. I won't buy another one unless I can buy only the part I broke.

Weights on Gram Precision GX-5000 digital scale: T.H.E. Bottom Line:The front fender does a very good job of keeping mud off you. After I finished my first ride with it, which was a very muddy/wet one, and found myself to be relativly clean, as compared to a dry day even, i had to say i was very impressed. However with so many parts of the bike so low to the ground its just about impossible for anything to keep all the mud off your bike, so the T.H.E. fender doesn't do the greatest job of that, but thats expected.. It looks good, and is very lightweight. Once you put in the starnut, insalation and removal are very easy and convenient. The only drawback (besides teh $40 price tag.. retail anyway) is that when my fork fully compresses, on say big drop offs, the fender bottoms out, and just taps the top of the forks brake arch. although this is not a major problem, it sure can get to be irratating as you hear a tiny "clank" after every big drop. i plan to file down the area of the fender bottoming, and that should fix the problem. One issue may be that it is the cross country fender, and i am using it on a 5" travel fork. i chose to do so, because i put this fender on a freeride bike that i also do a lot of c/c riding with. so maybe the DH fender would work perfectly, but bottom line after i shave down the small section of the fender hitting the brake arch, this fender will be perfect. only 3 chillis for value- $40 (retail) is way overpriced 5 chillis overall, it kicks ass

Home installation is quite difficult without a bike stand, mallet for the front star nut that fits inside the fork, and small fingers to attach the rear fender without detaching the saddle from the rails. I reviewed the front fender when I first got it. I still stand by that review of the product and T.H.E.'s customer service. Overall great products. Just don't plan on snaping these on and riding. But, I bought a new bike with one of these fenders on it and the dealer convinced me to leave it on, just for a trial. Damn thing works, especially important if you ride in horse country and don't like having used horse feed flipped up into your face or onto the mouthpiece of your water bottles. I.ve taken at least four good spills and no damage, other than slight tweak of the pot-metal bracket which was easily reconfigured to original specs. Put one on my wife's commuter bike and another on my hardtail. Now, whenever I see another rider without a THE fender, I wonder if he has horse poo on his/her face. Sorry.

A little expensive for just the front fender. The installation varies on what type of fork you have. I needed to insert the spacers, both of them, on the back part of the fender to keep my tire from eating it. At $40 a crack, that's a pretty expensive snack!

Bottom Line:A good fender for the rider who stylizes their bike with color. Had to adjust spacers a couple of times to get it fit right. Had to e-mail THE for help. Toby Henderson HIMSELF e-mailed back. That says a lot to me about customer service for his product. As a fender is lightweight. I'm afraid it might not take much to desroy it. For the money, serves it's purpose, but a little flimsy. I give it a high rating because of the customer service from THE.
Overall Rating:5
